Sony Legacy do not 'own' any Prince music.

Sony Legacy, like any other label, have paid for a production and distribution licence to phyically and digitally release Prince music.

Their licence is currently shared with Warners and have very clear restrictions.

Having a licence to release and distribute music has nothing to do with publishing.

Anymore can pay for a licence to release music. You just need to ask and be prepared to pay up front a lot of money!

I think it's awesome because now I can replace "When We're Dancing Close and Slow" with something better on my playlist(s).

CD's still outsell vinyl 8 to 1. Vinyl gets the promotion because they can price gouge.

I really only listen digitally now, but I guess the CD has died, because in many ways 'we' were only getting them for the pristine digital sound and the booklet/artwork - but now the digital sound is available via streaming or mp3 - so that only leaves the artwork - but that is really catered for by the vinyl now. So I can see why CD is slowly going the way of the dinosaur! (I still buy Prince albums on CD if avialable but no other artists!).

Nobody's going to pay $15 (+ at least that much in shipping costs) for a (limited edition) CD.

ordered the tape.

would like it on vinyl but that design is ugly.im sure they could have done better.

ill wait until the controversy SDE comes out.
