You might really appreciate the 1 September a.m. aftershow. It was nearly all jazz! no Prince. It was funky, and Prince was listening backstage apparently.

The second half of Indigo Nights is better than the first. The first half is taken from the penultimate night, which I attended and where P spent half the time telling jokes. And the rest of the CD is from the final aftershow. Which by all accounts was one of the best nights. But everyone who attended most, if not all, of the aftershows seem to agree, the CD should have been compiled as a best of across all the aftershows. There's an audio recording of the 2 August a.m. show in an obvious to find place, and there's a lot of jazz I'm hearing right now.

I filed this away after listening to it a few times when it came out with the book.

compared to some of the aftershows at the O2 at the time (the rock show )
this compilation sounded very tame and nothing grabbed me.

few years ago, I gave it another try and now I like it a lot more.

absolutely love the fuck out of that back 2 back combo. love the vocals on Rock Steady
and the guitar on Whole Lotta Love is sensational.

I had exact same reaction and reappraisal. Some Cool stuff. Love that he used the same bassline for RS and WLL...and crazy that they are so similar. His best version of WLL imo.

It's actually pretty solid. I like it. It's probably underrated in the sense that not many people have actually heard it.

The version of Whole Lotta Love here is proper metal, like the heaviest thing he's done.

I think the whole monologue part, plus 12 minutes of Satisfied/Begging Woman, plus Misty Blue make it very average, rest is cool. There were MANY other incredible performances from those Indigo shows that could have been included, but oh well.

Rock Strady, Whole Lotta Love, great funky Alphabet St. make it worthwhile.

It absolutely kills the CD racks when still in it's original 2 kilo sleeve....
For me these releases (like it aint over cd) are a good example that it is hard to release a aftershow that really sticks out. I have many wonderful tapes in varying quality of many shows but those released one don't really do it for me (besides some songs ofcourse).

The rockshow would be more my cup of tea but I can see other people prefer more soul.

That gig that is covered in the first half is one of my favourite all-time Prince gigs. I think it would have worked better as a recording with video though.

I enjoy both Indigo Nights and TRC. I don't try to over-analyze Prince's music. I'm simply thankful for it and try to just appreciate it for the wonderful music it is.

All that said, analysis is a good thing. It's how we can cleanse the world of psychopaths and idiots.

I love it. too many complain about what its not with all the aftershow stuff that could have been included. It seems like they get so caught up in that that they miss what is on it.
