The Jazz artist, Bob Belden did a beautiful compilation album, When Doves Cry, back in 1994 with multiple popular jazz and r&b artists at that time: Phil Perry, Cassaundra Wilson, Fareed Haque. The rendition of those numbers were so quaint to me. For those jazz lovers, this is a keeper.

I could swear there was a website or blog listing those somewhere, but I can't find it in my bookmarks. Per Nilsen's first attempt at listing them in his first book in 89 is now touching: there were so few back then.

I believe the Foo Fighters would cover Darling Nikii in concert. Dave Grohl tells a funny story about his manager reaching out to Prince's people to see if they could cover it in the studio. Prince replied: "They should write their own tunes…" Because Dave idolized Prince, he wasn't offended by the response.

Obviously there are the ones like Sinead O'Connor and Chaka Khan but I suspect most people would know those. There's also a bunch of artists who have covered Prince in live shows. Bruce Springsteen, Pearl Jam, D'Angelo (again) Chris Cornell and many more. I do have to say that I don't like any other artists covering Prince. They never really do it justice. Springsteen's cover of Purple Rain is about the best.

Bit hypocritical from a man who's recorded several covers over the years

Wouldn't be the first time Prince was a hypocrite.

The rapper "Yo Gotti" covered Purple Rain and called it "Pure Cocaine".

DRS (of Gangsta Lean fame) had a cover of Do Me, Baby but the song is fairly different. New Jack Swing-afied.

Full Force did a cover of Girl (The Time song). Get It Up by TLC is already mentioned, I see.

Both TQ (the Westside guy) and Silk (the Freak Me guys) have covers of Adore.

Nuttin' NYCe had a cover of Nasty Girl.

There's that cover of When Doves Cry from Romeo+Juliet... Quendon I think was the kid's name. (EDIT: Quindon Tarver. Almost had it)

That's all I can think of right now.
