How great is "Another Love"? This is easily one of my favorite songs of prince's late catalog
I still remember how amazed I was when I heard it for the first time when listening to the Plectrum electrum album.It wasn't until a year ago that I found out it was a cover version Prince made it a different song and a different experience in my opinion and the SNL version was amazing too What do you all think of the song? on one hand i love it one of his best songs of the last decade that spoken segment in the middle bothers me as its just silly though, its just prince doing 'betrayed lover prince' for the umpteenth time but not that well or convincingly (also, 'the greatest soul youll ever know?' what? lol)
after hearing the original, im amazed at where he took the song, but there is something more moving and original about her version
does make me think though that most of the best prince songs in the last 15 years or so were actually his covers [Edited 9/5/21 15:07pm] |

This and "What If" are the amoung the very best things he did at the end of his career. Telling that they are covers.

either way, i agree, there is something that the original has that the cover doesnt.
prince made it typically princey, but not in a way that does anything different.
alice smiths original has a tone that makes it much more striking and original. |

I'm not even religious, yet that song sounds great to me. I have no problem with Hannah's voice.
Jeez compared to Candy on Life of the Party??? Yikes!
