given the choice between 170 minutes of remixes edits and bsides, or 170 minutes of vault material (even if that includes UNHEARD remixes), I know what I would choose.

If we don't hear an anouncment of D&P SD by Oct 1st it looks like it wont happen this year. As for back up on vinyl making, I don't think that plays to much into the release date since Prince brings in the big bucks more so than most top ten artists today (physical album sales). Making Prince a priority over most artists making vinyl. 99.9% of everything I say is strictly for my own entertainment

Thus Prince getting a priority. More vinyl physical sales more money. 99.9% of everything I say is strictly for my own entertainment

Thus Prince getting a priority. More vinyl physical sales more money. But there's already a Prince vinyl release scheduled for November, the PR remastered. Of course, most of us doesn't care, but it's not nothing. I m sure it will propell the album in the top tem US sales the week of release. A very high competitive week, but PR is selling usually so well, that it shouldn't be too hard. So that's to be taken into consideration. Edit : on the Target site, the preorders are already sold out. Understandable, since fams all over the world can only preorder this at Target. Amd all the sales will be taken into account in the US. It is likely they will produce more to be in stores for the casual consumers when shopping, with great exposition. Purple Rain Vinyl is good for a Christmas gift apparently. So to me, that's it for 2021. I hope to be proven wrong though, I want D&P for Christmas, since they already gave up on the W2A promotion. [Edited 9/23/21 4:39am]

...except I don’t think the estate have given up on W2A just yet. Only 3 days ago on Twitter they pushed a link for “1000 Light Years From Here”. So they are keeping up similar effort to what they were since release. There may or may not be something coming!

Think they might still try this minimal approach for promotion of W2A until the AMAs in November. Is there much competition this year for ‘Favourite Album R&B’? If they do want to continue pushing it, I’d suggest a stream or a digital release of the whole concert from the Blu-Ray, or release the blu-Ray as a stand-alone (or even a blu-Ray/CD package) might be worth it before Xmas. Depends how much stock of the Deluxe they’ve got filling up a warehouse, if they want to continue with it. Still, fingers crossed for something big announced next Friday🤞 Not that I think anything will 🙁 There may or may not be something coming!

Why not releasing W2A in audio cassette? That will make a surge in sales. They should have used the money they spent on buying views on YT on making at least a lyric or archival video of some sort.

And I’ve just spotted their tweets and official Facebook posts today, drawing attention to the concert, in particular John Blackwell’s drumming. There’s a link to The Bird from the show on the tweet/post. [Edited 9/23/21 16:30pm] There may or may not be something coming!

On a related note WRT the just announced 30th anniversary box set of Nirvana's Nevermind: .

. In recent days on Amazon UK, the deluxe set has decreased from £96.50 (a price it has had for a long while) to £88, and then mere days later to £79, so it kinda looks like Amazon is trying to shift some inventory by slashing the price. © Bart Van Hemelen

How about we get the Welcome 2 America CD/Blu-ray Japan import distributed worldwide first? The world's problems like climate change can only be solved through strategic long-term thinking, not expediency. In other words all the govts. need sacking!

Since Musicology, and even before that (but Musicology began his stream of mainstream releases), Prince'album didn't get a second life. Mainly because they stopped printed it after six months, but there are never marketing operations in wreckastores where his current albums are discounted at 7 €/$. They are always sold at the original price of release. Hence, his albums can't get a second life because they are too expensive for catalogue albums. Sony put in wreckastores so many W2A to get high exposition, that one can wonder what will become of the many unsold copies. I never saw so much albums in stores for a Prince release, so there's hope that this time, they will discount its price to find a new audience and get a second life.

- Looks like a smart cash-cow decision. Nirvana doesn't have that much of a big back catalogue like Prince does. Anyways. Fans sure will have to buy the CD package first, or download the songs, and later on the vinyl colleciton if they want. - But as an idea for a Prince release, I wouldn't mind either. Just don't know if it'll work - revenue wise. - "The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves. And wiser people so full of doubts" (Bertrand Russell 1872-1972)

They should open a plant just for printing Prince vinyls. That would be the solution. There would be a department office dedicated only to Gett Off's remixes.

I would rather forget 2021 and start afresh in 2022.

They could have released for the end of year something like The Undertaker on vinyl/CD. As I have already stated, they should always get a b-plan for an easy-to-be released cash grabbing in case they are out of scheduled with huge boxseta.

The Undertaker sounds like anus and it’s compressed all to hell. That shit sounded like-fi even when it came out. I don’t think enough people would care to make it worth the $$ to press them. That Stones cover is especially weak.

There is a story in a Dutch newspaper today on how vinyl prices are going through the roof. One example they give is how ATWIAD cost a mere €17 a while ago, but if you want a fresh copy today you'll pay over €50 (and that €50 is a price where the record store doesn't make its usual profit). The reason (in part?) is the worldwide lack of resources due to various crises (even paper prices are going up in ridiculous ways). . The store owner was really worried because vinyl sales have sustained his store in recent years, its boom has helped soften the blow from the rapid decline in sales of CDs, but these new prices will scare peopel away because nobody is going to pay absurd prices for catalog releases like ATWIAD) or even new releases. © Bart Van Hemelen

Apparently, Warner is the label with the highest inflation to come, according to a french article. How much really cost a vinyl, without recorded music, to produce? I m sure it must be no more than 3 dollars. There were many titles in stores at 10 euros ( Thriller, Police, Miles Davis etc.), I bought a Little Richard vinyl a 5 euros amd there were many titles at that price. So to me they are just greedy motherfuckers. The price of vinyl boxsets is ridiculous They make you pay 20$ by vinyl, whereas they should make a cheaper price for the whole collection, like 15$ by vinyl. Let's hope they will release D&P only on CD, to be there for Christmas. It was never intented to be heard on vinyl anyway
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
You're basing that entirely on your guess that it's probably about $3 to make. And what do you mean D+P wasn't intended to be heard on vinyl? If that was the case it wouldn't have had a vinyl release in 1991. Check out The Collector's Guide to Prince on YouTube here: https://www.youtube.com/p...4ldzxwlEuy

If a new vinyl is sold directly 5 or 10 euros, then ot must not be that expensive to produce. D&P had a very limited release in vinyl in 1991. It sold more vinyls in 2017 than in 1991 -D. It was just a little niche in 1991, and had almost disappeared by 1992. With its lenght, its low dynamic range sound, the number of remixes, etc. D&P is tailored for the CD format ( and of course audio cassette). [Edited 9/26/21 22:33pm]

What do people make of the latest Prince tweet/Facebook post? “Thank you to all the fans (and fams) around the world who have supported the release of #Welcome2America from Prince's legendary vault. It charted in the Top 5 in numerous countries, including Sweden, France, Spain, Canada, and America, and received global critical acclaim.” It’s accompanied by a photo of Prince bowing. To me this suggests the end of the promotion of W2A, unless they do an encore! There may or may not be something coming!
