Man O War Today I woke up with Man O War singing in my head. I don't know why, I haven't heard this song in a while. Not complaining though. I like it when random Prince songs invade my mind. That's it. No question or point of discussion. Just wanted to share.

I find Rave a tough listen when hearing it beginning to end, but taken individually there's some great songs. Totally agree on the ballads - really good stuff on there!

That's it. No question or point of discussion. Just wanted to share. There's a few seconds during I think Stand Up & B Strong that reminded me of Man O War, It was a short guitar part. Maybe it did the same to you? [Edited 7/24/21 5:11am]

It's a beautiful song and easily over-looked like so many post-80s gems. I've always wondered what the initial version of the Rave album from 1999 sounded like before Arista demanded Prince add more r&b and soul material. I recall Prince describing the original '99 configuration as 'psychedelic' and I believe it was more rock-oriented.

To be honest, apart from the title track, I've resisted listening to the new songs in advance - I want to wait until the album plops on my doormat.

I know it shouldn't surprise me that label people are soulless monsters, but really? Prince may have been at a low point, but when he gives you a psychedelic album, how do you, as a nonmusician, get the balls to tell him to change his music? A man who lives and breathes music. Who is better at making music than you or anyone you know is at doing anything. Fuck.

It must have been Clive Davis, the man with the golden ear or whatever, but still.

There is a lot of excellent songs on Rave ; my favorite is 'Tangerine' but other very good ones are 'Man O war', the title track, 'the sun the moon the stars' ; 'Pretty Man' is good too. I would have liked to listen to the original 'Rave', especially if it is more psychedelic oriented ; however the question is to know if the original tracklist was the same as the one of the 1999 'Rave' or if some songs were written and added later for the 1999 version.

I am not really a ballad man, but funnily enough two of Rave's ballads are the only songs that really do it for me: ILUBIDTUA and Man O War. Safe to say I never gelled with that album. RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...
