- Did anyone ever bought a bootleg cassette ? Did they excist actually ? I mean the releases known on CD or vinyl, but then on cassette? - I remember buying one in Tunesia. But it was just parts of the Lovesexy album with older Prince hits and a few B-sides added. Not a real bootleg tbh. In very obscure quality, sped up, mono, different fade outs, etc. Shit quality tbh, from the label K7 (pronounce that in french...) -

I did. There was a record store in my hometown (Ghent, Belgium) that sold them. My first bootleg was a double cd entitled "Wonderboy" with a soundboard SOTT show from Paris and outtakes. My first cassette bootleg (still have it) was a Wembley show from the Nude Tour.

My first vinyl was in 'From 1999 Till Now' in early 1985. My first tape was a dub of 'Heaven' in 1986. .

The Regent of First Avenue on vinyl. The Black album on cassette. I'm not 100% sure but I think it was Cheek on CD Making love and music are the only things worth fighting for.

Slightly of topic. But in 1991 I bought a copy of the black album on cd. The CD was made out of metal or something. It was heavy. Not a plastic cd. It also had some Asian test printed on it, it didnt even have Prince anywhere on it. Like it was disguised so it wouldn't be noticed as a bootleg. And songs were grouped in 3, 3 songs per track. I was actually allowed to listen to if before I bought it. I took it back a for a refund a week later. But they kept like $10 bucks. And I used the rest on 2 more cheaper boots I've never seen another metal or steel cd again I will take my place, In the great below

- That's where i lived for 21 years, and they (Music Mania) were my providers for dozens of bootlegs i bought there. Dat is toch wel toeval. - "The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves. And wiser people so full of doubts" (Bertrand Russell 1872-1972)

When Doves Cry It's A Sign O' The Times 2LP, purchased at my local wrecka stow while out looking for the elusive Black Album (which I finally acquired on vinyl a couple months later). Don't hate your neighbors. Hate the media that tells you to hate your neighbors.

First a co-worker gave me a tape with all kinds of good stuff on it; IIRC.
Then had to get the Black Album vinyl.
First CD boot was some monstrosity called Crystal Ball with a purple cover and I think a black and white photo thing. Then I think "Nightclubbing" with the brown cover, aka part of Small Club.

- The Black Album cassette...a friends tape of a tape of a tape....i am guessing at least 10 generation or more. Quality was absolutely horrible...but it made it that much funkier and cool. Man, I played (& copied) that thing to DEATH.
- Then the next one was a CD of the Lovesexy show in Germany. You couldn't skip songs on the 1st CD, but I didn't care. I was so hyped to have it and also played the hell out of it.
- The one I really cherished tho was Jewel Box 2. This was around 93/94 and I picked it up from the local wrecka stow...it was behind the counter and my eyes about popped out of my head when the sales clerk was like YOU NEED THIS. This when my fandom was waining, and that brought me back along with a taped copy of the Gold Experience songs.

I was given a lot of bootlegs at once by someone else in the early 2010s, so I guess those would be my 'first'. Versace & Other Experiences, Rude Boy, Crucial and the like.
In terms of one I bought for myself, it was probably that 'Prince Interview 1985' 7" that turns up everywhere. So nothing too special, lol.

The Black Album on vinyl and somebody made me cassettes of Small Club and Charade. Used to get a lot of stuff from people in alt.music.prince but stopped looking for bootsabout a decade ago. I can only listen to high sound quality stuff.

I had bought some tapes way back in the day, with horrible sound. - 1988 - bught a tape (I had to bring the tape, for the taping) of the Black Album from a record store in College Town, Ithaca NY. So excited. - But what I do want to remember as my first boot is a pressing of Small Club on Vinyl, bought it in Marbella Spain, while visiting to see the Nude Concert (my first and last P concert unfortunately). What a find, I was mesmarized. Still have the vinyl and still spin it. Song sequence is all messed up in the print, e.g. wrong order, but who cares - awesome music. An absolute favorite to date. the jewel box triple disc set blew my mind
but also, charade, a parade tour bootleg (not even the whole show!), a controversy tour bootleg (same!) and then a couple others like the jewel box 2, stars and bars, small club (i think this one is overrated tbh, it was hyped so much, it never lived up to it).

Wow..the memories come flooding back ! I am sure it was The Black Album on a cassette - sent via the post! I am sure Charade & New Morning Club were next. Christ, remember the days of post & writing to fans !..then hand writing tracks on the cassette sleeve !!!
After that I got a huge batch of cassettes from Holland [the infamous Dutch crew!] - saw their list in Record Collector magazine - remenber THOSE days ? - bootleggers putting all their available track lists in a magazine!! Took a month for the batch to arrive - but WHAT a batch! - took weeks to take it all in. Think that was around 1988/89? All our fan faves on there like Wonderfull ass, we can funk etc.
How times have changed!!!
