You can relive one live performance, which do you choose?

Ideally one you've been to

But if you never saw prince live

One you've read about, heard about, listened to or watched

And why 8-)

I choose one I've been to, one of the last shows I ever saw him live, prince/3eg in Manchester, 2014. He just seemed particularly happy that night and I liked how he sang MAN-CHESTER! Also, the love we make was particularly beautiful that night.

I would go back to the Lovesexy show I saw in Los Angeles. It was magic.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

I would go back to one of the 2 Paris Act II shows I saw, if only because I was front row on both.

.

But to be fair, it would still be great but it probably wouldn't be the same mindblowing experience it was unless I could also be 16 again.

I'm fortunate enough to have been to many shows, including lots of the famous ones, but If I could go back, it would be the last time I saw him (Private Autisim Rocks gig - London), simply to soak it up and appreciate that this was the 'final call'.

Mine was Sunday, November 6, at the Memorial Sports Arena.

I was in San Diego in the Navy on Coronado Island. Took a bus to L.A. to stay w/ my aunt & uncle, bought a ticket ($75!) plus some new clothes at International Male in West Hollywood. Then after the show, got back on a bus to San Diego to be up and at work on my ship by 7am.

Totally worth it.

Garage aftershow in Glasgow 1995.

Wore his shades the entire time and was off the wall. Tiny sweaty club and my first aftershow....

Cafe de Paris was also great. Hippodrome aftershow.

Ivy Sydney aftershow

I'm sure I've told my story here before.

I was 15 and bought one ticket to the show on my own.
All I remember was my mother telling me "How are you going to get there!?" I had no way there 😂
Oakland is at least a 40 minute drive. Anywho my uncle bought a ticket and took me to the show. But he was not able to get a seat near me. He was a section or 2 away. But it didnt matter to me 🤩

Oooh, this is a hard choice between two of my favourite shows.

There's the first of the 1987 Galgenwaard Sign "O" The Times concerts, which was SUCH an amazing show, made magical because of many, many reasons, but the moment where all the lighters flashed to the beat of the intro of Forever In My Life, like a wave of light, pulsating towards the darkening summer sky. Made quite an impression and probably the moment I became die-hard fan.

And then there's the 2002 Bataclan aftershow, when he lay down on the stage and I shouted to my friend Bram "This is going to be a legendary show!" And it was; he was in such a good mood; he used all the different voices that I love so well and he swept me off my feet.

If I had the choice... I'd chose 2002, I think...

I always value the Lovesexy shows not just because it's the only one I've been able to attend. But also because it's the last time Prince really fleshed out a conceptual tour. Up through Purple Rain, the tours were recreations of videos, (or the movie), and some quasi-religious banter. But SOTT had a bit more of a storyline in some regards - at least visually. Lovesexy had a full on evil vs. good narrative, from being tempted by Spooky Electric in the first act, to being reborn out of the earth in a figurative garden of Eden in the second act.

Subsequent tours were focused on performace again. Nude Tour's biggest drama was incorporating kanji symbols and Batman symbology. D&P and prince focused more on Diamond and Pearl, plus Mayte, and the pseudo-Princess of Egypt thing, but it was peppered in at most. After that, he was disavowing anything Prince for a while, then focusing on his freedom. Later tours were "real music by real musicians."

So Lovesexy was a very special time. While all his shows are just amazing, Lovesexy was an arch in his story as a creative mind to make music visual and interactive. More than anything MTV ever hoped to accomplish.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

Act II in 1993 at a festival somewhere in Germany, with the NPG performing some Gold Nigga songs before Prince came. Great, great evening.

While I sadly never got to see him live, one performance I have always returned to since becoming a fan (8 years ago) is the 31st August show at the Tokyo Dome during the Nude tour. It's gotta be one of my favourite Prince shows ever, and I often call it "the greatest show I never attended"

if I had to choose any one it would be 25th February 2008 at 77 Beverly Park Lane. I was not there that (or any other) night, but it would really be something to see Prince and Stevie Wonder AND Maceo Parker AND Beverley Knight share the stage with some of the best musicians P ever played with.

It would be perfect if Mono Neon, Lisa Coleman, Fred Yonnet, and Chaka Kahn were in the band too, but that only happened in my dreams lol

Aw, great uncle. Did he enjoy the show? This was Lovesexy, right? I can't imagine not being converted.

I'm not sure if I'd see my first again (10/2/88 MSG) or the one in a club. I'd probably enjoy the second one more, since I'd actually know the songs (from Come/Gold). But my first one has been somewhat replaced in my memory by my boot tape of Livesexy. God, after that, most concerts looked so half-assed.
