i did think that was interesting and picked up on it as soon as i started listening, not quite as full and rich sounding as one might want from a track this organic and smooth in nature. bummer.

I noticed the difference in sound quality when played next to the title track. Welcome 2 America sounds much fuller. This sounds like a song that has been leaked in a low bitrate mp3.

"Born 2 Die" reminds me heavily of later (lesser) Curtis Mayfield. Ok track but I'm underwhelmed. Don't wanna be but it just doesn't appeal to me. Canceled my Amazon pre-order. So far:
"W2A" and "B2D" are mediocre and I already heard versions of three other tracks.

Love it !! Amazing track! Love that 70s vibe!
I hope that some of the other songs of the album have that same vibe. I'm very excited now to hear the rest of the tracks. I have heard some before like Same Place etc but very curious now about the other tracks.

I'm greatly enjoying it, but would like to hear it in the context of the entire album. There are clear similarities in terms of themes and production values, which is suggesting to me that project may need to be assessed as a whole, as both tracks released so far sound to me as if they belong to something greater.

Sounds like a cross between Curtis and summer breeze or a Jamiroquai tune Decent, light song and nice for summer

Pretty much what I expected from this album. It's Prince on autopilot and will convert no one new but that's not to say it's bad. Worthy of release. It's the kind of thing someone might dig into lyrically and musically and find some intertextual nods. [Edited 6/3/21 12:53pm]

I have heard a rumor that we will get another track release on Monday (P's bday) If this is factual I would expect "Check The Record" to be playing on our systems next week he might have better luck if he was drummin with his Dick!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

^ Prince in tribute/retro mode is my least favorite. But not bad as far as things go. Singing is gorgerous.

Is this not a new release? Thanks for the link inside this buried thread, Bart.

It's not bad, would've loved some lead guitar work but that might've disrupted the Mayfield tribute-ness of the song. I'm excited to hear more as the date approaches, I'm not putting a lot of expectations or pressure for this to be his best work - I appreciate the novelty of this release and I'm looking forward it all!

Only listened to it once on YT, but I was indeed surprised by what I could only describe, for lack of better words, as a "weird pitch problem". It's kind of a distortion that's particularly obvious on vocals and horns, that was often present on old bootlegs, and that I also noticed on a few outtakes on SOTT SDE (the most typical example being Everybody Want What They Don't Got). . I'm not completely sure if I'm imagining it (both on SOTT and here), because I'm no sound engineer, but while I could assume that some tapes from 1986 may be slightly damaged, I fail to see how a master from 2011 could possibly suffer from such a problem. . Other that that, I'm pretty sure from what I've heard so far that I'm going to LOVE that whole album A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/

it almost sounds like a scratch lead vocal take really, i mean it's good, but something feels off in a way i haven't heard on any other material of this era. very thin sounding in a way that doesn't serve the song, in my opinion.

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one hearing "things". I hope we'll get to the bottom of this eventually. . Regarding your comment, I share your doubts, but with Prince it's really hard to tell whether an unreleased record was ever "ready for release", in the sense that even when it was, it could always change at the last minute. . A good example is the second Madhouse 24: apparently, Prince very much planned on releasing the 1993 configuration exactly as we have it on bootlegs, but WB refused, then for some reason the planned Edel release didn't happen either the next year, and P eventually reworked the album in 1995 (only to shelve it again). . So technically, the 1993 version is definitely something Prince wanted to release "as such", and it seems he would have if WB had let him. Yep: it would be part of the canon. Yet, should we consider Madhouse 24 (1993) a finalized, "ready-to-go" project? It was in 1993. But then it wasn't, and it's not even because Prince had changed his mind in the first place, since a third party was responsible for shelving it. . And look at how High (and possibly Peace) was/were ready to go in 2000, then shelved, only to become The Chocolate Invasion and The Slaughterhouse 3 years later (P could just as well have released High and Peace as they were in 2000, but chose not to). And even then, TCI changed a little between the shelved 2003 boxset and the final 2004 release (then reverted to the 2003 config when rereleased in 2015!!). . One may even wonder if Prince would have released Crystal Ball 86 exactly as we have it if WB had agreed, or if he'd have tinkered with it a little more in the few months before its eventual release date. For all we know, U Got The Look would have replaced Shockadelica or some other track. . So in that sense, I guess only released material can be considered 100% "ready for release", because with Prince, it could always change up to the very last minute, even if he wasn't responsible for the record being postponed in the first place! - He digs for the exact facts and then posts them, that's the most emotion you'll get. His rudeness, impoliteness, shouts, complaints, name callings, blame, reproaches is pure love for us and the .org. But aren't we glad to have him. At least he is the one taking care of the correctness and facts. He's just an algorythm and a search engine. I like him. We need him. -

Interesting, as I've also began to be nagged by the idea this is unfinished. What particularly bothers me is the manner in which the song just ambles to an end and the relative absence of Prince's input the last few minutes. It feels as though the finale of the song needs some soaring falsetto or a guitar solo or even an explosion of horns. Instead, there's just an empty space where something should have been. It feels as if Prince left the song after three minutes and simply never returned. A shame as this is almost there... * [Edited 6/4/21 4:54am]

1000 Light Years Away - is longer on W2A (5.46 compared to 3.05 on HRN2) . When She Comes is also longer (4.46 compared to 3.45 on HNR2) and apparantly 'sparser' . I listened to Hot Summer recently for the first time in years and it wasn't as bad as I remembered. Nothing ground breaking just a light simple pop song
