in which way The Revolution is any worse than 3rd Eye or 1996-1999 NPG
As i can hear Bobby Z is a much better drummer than Hannah. i never seen Bobby miss the pocket ever.
Ok Ida is better on bass than Brown Mark, but she is better than all of Prince bass players except Sonny.
Dr Fink was the best and most underrated keyboard player in Prince band along with Barbarella.
Wendy was crap as a lead player but very good as a rhythm guitarist.
so how can anybody say The Revolution wa his weakest band.
They could go from punk new wave to soul and funk within a song so how is that his worst band?
Definitely not his weakest but far from his best. They're just his most popular for many reasons; primarily because they were in the movie. Bobby can't fuck with Sheila E, Michael B or John Blackwell on his best day. He's the weakest link in the band. Miko Weaver is getting Wendy all the way out of here easily. Just listen to that Yokohama gig in 86. Miko's guitar is way up and playing most of the stuff and wendy is just embellishing. Ida would even destroy Brownmark and Sonny T is the originator so Mark don't want no smoke with him. The only people who's chops couldn't really be easily replaced are Lisa and Dr. Fink. Even then it comes down to can they improv. Prince himself said the Revolution wasn't good at that. So honestly, it really just comes down to preference unless you start naming examples.
Nostalgia aside, The SOTT/Lovesexy band and the first NPG along with the ONA NPG are his best bands. Period. Feel and chops.
. Had the circumstances been better, The Revolution could have lasted at least 2 more Prince albums after the Parade-era. The catches?: . #1. Prince would have laid-off Bobby Z no matter what to make room for Shelia E. on drums.
. #2. A full time horn section featuring Eric Leeds, Atlanta Bliss, and/or Eddle M. would have been added to the band line-up. . #3. Although Wendy Melvoin was/is stronger for the rock & folk sound, Miko Weaver was stronger for the rhythm & blues [r&b] sound, hence why Prince needed him either way. , All 3 points validate that need for the "Prince & The Counter-Revolution" idea for live show. Also, the Dream Factory would have the next album release instead of SOTT. Just imagine what could have been in 1986-88! No thanks lol 2 years of pop/rock/ethereal music was more than enough |

This. They’re just popular due to the movie on top of timing. They were around during his commercial peak. Fans need to let that nostalgia go. If they’re your favorite, fine but saying they’re his best band is borderline delusional. |

Why you think Wendy was better for rock? Miko is funky but he is a rocker as well, his distorted rhythm guitar on rockier songs was more rock than Wendy. i agree about everything else and Lovesexy band played the same arrangements as Parade tour band

IHO, Wendy has always been in her element with rock. I stand by my words [as a Wendy & Lisa sympathizer].
.
And BTW, I've seen and heard the live version of Electric Chair to know that Miko can rock. |

Dez Dickerson is better than Wendy & Miko. If I had to create my own all-time Prince backing band lineup, Dez would get drafted for lead guitar ahead of both of them [and I'm a Wendy & Lisa fan admitting that much!]. |

Out of the first 10 albums Prince recorded, "Around The World In A Day" is easily the worst...not that its trash (because it isnt), but it just doesnt have the excitement or replay value of any of the other albums from "For You" to "Lovesexy"...and maybe even some of the albums after that. |

I think Around the World in a Day might be my favorite Prince record after 1999. Along with the 12-inch versions and B-sides that's defintely my favorite era. The America video shows a band completely on fire.

yeah "America" and "Condition Of The Heart" are GREAT songs...but the rest of the songs dont really move me that much...even good songs like Pop Life, ATWIAD, and Raspberry Beret got old quick... and i never liked Paisley Park (yuck), The Ladder (yawn) or Temptation...it always seemed like that album needed 2 or 3 more songs...it was very short on funk and soul. |

I think Tamborine and Condition of the Heart are my 2 favorite Prince songs. I love the Raspberry Beret 12". She's Always in My Hair, Girl. I love "Paisely Park", and remember how blown away by it I was when I first heard it. Temptation is underrated. It's a good piece of music. I wouldn't give that record to someone as the absolute first thing for people to listen to, but I have turned people on to Prince by playing cuts from it. It's the record where you can show people that there's so much more to Prince than that Purple Rain song. It's wild and free.

i don't think For You is better than Around The World. on For You Prince had not get what makes him Prince.it's kind of bland, not a real showcase of what is about to follow,on Around The World Prince persona was already formed but he was expendng his pallet. |

My Love Is Forever (my all time favorite song by Prince)

Agree with you but can we agree that Prince persona was not really formed until Controversy? or even 1999 era? yeah thats true...but when i hear or listen to music, the artist's "persona" is not part of my listening experience... im just reacting to the music and lyrics that i hear and feel...which is why i can even enjoy music by people who i dont like or care for on a personal level...thats how i became a Prince fan in the first place...i thought he was an overly effeminate weirdo back in 1979, but i couldnt deny how much i loved "Sexy Dancer" and "Its Gonna Be Lonely" when my high school girlfriend would play that "Prince" LP over and over again. |

Man, I love this album.
From top 2 bottom with the 12"es included it was one of his best projects.
It was also the 1st time he included REAL horns which I had been complaining about a couple of years before with the synth horns.
This album is easily in my top 10 Prince albums. FOOLS multiply when WISE Men & Women are silent. |

Hard to believe anyone would compare the Revolution to the E Street Band.
.
E Street Band - Wikipedia
The E Street Band is an American rock band, and has been musician Bruce Springsteen's primary backing band since 1972. The band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2014.
When not working with Springsteen, members of the band have recorded solo material and have pursued successful careers as session musicians, record producers, songwriters, actors and other roles in entertainment. The most highly visible in their separate careers are drummer Max Weinberg, who has led his own band, first on Late Night with Conan O'Brien and then on the Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien, from 1993 to 2010, and guitarist Steven Van Zandt, who starred as Silvio Dante in the HBO television series The Sopranos, from 1999 to 2007, and as Frank "The Fixer" Tagliano in the 2012–2014 Netflix series Lilyhammer.
The band members have also performed and recorded (both individually and as a band) with a wide range of other artists including Air Supply, Gary U.S. Bonds, David Bowie, Tracy Chapman, Ray Davies, Dire Straits, Bob Dylan, Steve Earle, John Fogerty, Aretha Franklin, Peter Gabriel, The Grateful Dead, Emmylou Harris, Ian Hunter, Lady Gaga, Darlene Love, Paul McCartney, Meat Loaf, Tom Morello, Stevie Nicks, Lou Reed, The Rolling Stones, Santana, Bob Seger, Southside Johnny, Ronnie Spector, Ringo Starr, Sting, Bonnie Tyler, Lucinda Williams, and Neil Young.

Personally i'd love for what would essentially be a new W&L album but with the rest of the Revolution backing them, they're arguably a realer band now than they were in 1984. The RnR hall of fame is just where dinosaurs go to die. |
