You don't hear much about it anymore, but for a while there was a separate Hall of Fame "sidemen" category, for lesser-known studio musicians who contributed mightily. I don't even know if they still do it. I can see Wendy, in particular, who like-it-or-not is one of the most well-known studio musicians around, getting something like that.

Prince got inducted as a solo artist but If they decide to induct Prince And The Revolution who should be there?

Was Dez part of The Revolution(band name was on the 1999 back cover)?

Would it be Purple Rain band minus Prince?

But if they induct the classic era linup what about the extended Revolution?

Are Eric Leeds and Wally Brooks The Revolution as well?

It'll never happen.

But I do hope I'm wrong.

If thzat's the case, just 'The Revolution', like in Prince and The ...

I'm not ashamed to report I just voted for Rage Against the Machine, Foo Fighters, Jay_Z, Carole King and Fela Kuti. Somebody better start talking about how to nominate people although in the spirit of everything, I basically just voted for 5 bands that represent The Revolution pretty well.
What else ya got?

E Street recorded and toured with Springsteen over a span of decades. The Revolution lasted four years.

OK - I've been re-thinking this. I do believe The Revolution should be in the RRHOF.

Just for the reason of the Purple Rain album, movie and tour (along with the videos) . . . they're right there with Prince during his most-famous period.

So definitely the movie lineup should be inducted. Do you include Dez/Jill from the 1999 lineup (the cover art does say & The Revolution) and do you include the expanded Parade lineup?

Obviously, Prince and the Revolution, meaning Prince, Mark, Matt, Bobby and Wendy and Lisa deserve any and all accolades. It would be cool if there was a way to honor the rest of the crew as well. I mean, how underrated is Miko? He funked that shit so hard. Shelia, Eric Leeds, Bonnie Boyer, Even Eddie M.

When PFUNK was awarded, it seemed like they every person who had ever been in the same room with George Clinton up on that stage. It can be done.

Also, yes, please put the original Time in the RHOF.

And they burned the fucking world down in that space of 4 years. All of us have the bootlegs and are still talking about it. Have you ever heard of anyone that cared about the E. Street Band to the level of crazed focis of Prince fans? No you have not.

I agree with your sentiment about The Revolution, but I think you're underestimating how obsessive Bruce fans can be lol

I don't believe it is a matter of deserve or not deserve I believe that the fact is every musician ever associated with Prince that we know of really is deserving in their own right, they didn't need to have been in The Revolution to qualify.

Why are you putting black in quotes? Prince is black....some people don't know the difference between race and complexion. Anyway, I don't think it would hurt for the Revolution to be inducted....

well today is the last day to vote about this year's nominees so it's time to get busy learning about the groovy potential of next year.
Maybe the fact they had women in the band is the real reason for the delay.
Maybe prince.org should be nominated or come up with its own version of the same thing.

No way in hell should the Revolution be inducted separately into the hall of fame. You started a thread on here talking about how overrated Prince is but then you start one considering the hall of fame induction of THE MOST overrated "band" in Prince's history??! Just stop already.

95% of everything you heard came from Prince or his direction. I'm sick of all these barnacles trying to attach themselves to his battleship. It's a joke.

eek smile cool razz lol

i use quotation marks because NO ONE is actually the color black in complexion...the white Europeans labeled us as black, as the word has had historically negative connotations (spiritually dark in nature; evil) attached to it...just like the so called "N word"(theyre usually used together). we are Africans or people of African descent...not "black people"...Prince was a light coffee colored or golden brown man, not "black"..i refuse to acknowledge in principle, the white slave owners racist labels and signifiers...and i for one, clearly know the difference between race and complexion, but still i refuse to defer to, or submit to, the slavemaster's/oppressor's titles or thought processes

BLACK

Black is a color which results from the absence or complete absorption of visible light. It is an achromatic color, without hue, like white and gray.[1] It is often used symbolically or figuratively to represent darkness.[2] Black and white have often been used to describe opposites such as good and evil, the Dark Ages versus Age of Enlightenment, and night versus day

Some perceive "black" as a derogatory, outdated, reductive or otherwise unrepresentative label, and as a result neither use nor define it, especially in African countries with little to no history of colonial racial segregation. Some have commented that labeling people "black" is erroneous as the people described as "black" are seen by some to have a brown skin color.[4]

Get real. Wendy is hardly worthy of enshrinement. Being a popular studio musician does not get it.

The only way the Revolution would get in is by the influence of Wendy's father. No doubt it was instrumental to Wendy's career opportunities. He served as chairman and president of The Recording Academy

Wendy's father has been dead for some years.

Wendy and Lisa and the Revolution should absolutely be given any and all accolades. The hatred here for Prince's most famous, and arguably his best band is obnoxious. It makes it not fun to come to The Org. Always some overyly intense haters spouting off.

My vote is The Revolution with Dez included...as well as Sheila E and Eric Leeds.

That's not The Revolution, though. Eric, at most, was in it one year, and not a seminal year for Prince and the Revolution anyway. Dez also wasn't in The Revolution despite the album cover on 1999.

Dez long wanted out by that point. Prince purposely waited to properly introduce The Revolution in the Purple Rain era. He told Dez, "I need you for three years. If you can't be there for that, that's cool. But I need to know now." So a proper Revolutio would be the one we know: Bobby, Matt, Mark, Wendy, and Lisa. Those were the ones who were there for Purple Rain, and made it what it was. Not Vanity, not Sheila, not Eric, not Dez. (Yeah, Dez was in it what - 20 seconds?)

Overall, it's a stretch to induct them. While it was a monumental era for Prince, it was shortlived as a band. It's like trying to induct the New Power Generation, a name he's used exponentially longer. But what version of the NPG would go? What was his most seminal time w/ the NPG? There is no answer to that.

But there is an answer what version of The Revolution should be in RnRHoF: The only one that existed.

If Sheila had enough credit on her own as a solo artists who wrote and produced albums that people remembered and change the landscape of music, she may be considered. But alas...

.

I'm thinking the same thing. It would mostly like be The Purple Rain-era & ATWIAD-era Prince & The Revolution line-up.

.

The only why I did not say Parade-era is because Miko Weaver, Eric Leeds, & Atlanta Bliss did and still does turn it into Prince & The Counter-Revolution.
