Which version you like better? i love the rock version he started doing in 2007. wonder if he maybe did a rock version with the Revolution but it's in the vault

This is THE perfect Funk/Rock song of all time...lyrically and musically. Def in my Prince Top 10. The original is the best, but I do dig the "Rock" version.

Who says the Parade version isn't rock? It's the most rock oriented song on the record. I think it's the grittest song on the record. And while some may consider Parade as silky and smooth, to me it's more textured and gritty sometimes.

There is a balance between songs like "I Wonder U," "Venus De Milo," and "Do U Lie?" and things like "Anotherloverholenyohead" and "Girls and Boys." I think something like "Alexa De Paris" picks up both those elements - silk and grit/texture. It harkens to songs like "God (Instrumental)" with it's mix of guitar driven melody, string background arrangements, and a gradual build up to the end.

Not everything has to sound like "Let's Go Crazy" or "Endorphinmachine" to be a rock song. "Anotherloverholenyohead" sticks out as a great rock song and keeps balance on the album. It's why I think Parade is so well loved by fans. The first four songs recorded as one track (and not only changes tempos but goes from 4/4 time to 6/8), the instrumental, the bar stool creaking ballad, the quirky last-minute song that sounds nothing like anything else on the record, the funk workouts, and the maniacal band jam. Somehow it all works together, and "Anotherloverholenyohead" being absent would throw the whole record into a tailspin.

Rock version the OP just meant more rocking compared to the original arrangement. I perfer the original but both are great

When I trawl back through mother memory - it was this song that absolutely confirmed me as a Prince fan. The released version, is simply magnificent. I do enjoy both versions, but the original is one of the greatest songs Prince ever wrote - for me. In fact, Parade is, arguably, the best album Prince ever made...I mean, it isn't, Lovesexy is, obvs , but an argument could be made for Parade.

i know it don't have to sound like rock in order to be rock,lots of 80s synth pop is rock music with synths.

But studio version of Anotherloverholeinyourhead is funk.actually Parade is the least rock album Prince ever made.it don't take away from the album of course,it is a great album

Parade version is Arabesque rock, and it is the right blend of purple rock intensity. I love the heavier rock version of latter years too, I enjoy listening to the SuperBowl 1/2 Press conference version. But realize it might push too hard at points. But I enjoy both but love the 1986 album/live rendition more

I like them both. I like funk Prince and rock prince so I'm good either way. It's just a flat out great song that would probably work all by itself on the piano or on an acoustic guitar.

I do find the rock arrangement more interesting in some ways. But I also like the 12" intro and extended portion, and added horns within the song a lot.

Maybe. They were working, but they were also in front of Prince. Throw the pad down and at least tap your foot or something. I mean, what else are they doin' while Prince is rockin' out for 20 minutes? What are they taking notes on at that point? Clearly, they weren't going to get any questions answered.

Then again, I'm a Prince fan. They weren't, per se.

I also think the 2nd verse ("We were brothers and sisters united all 4 love..."), with his melody working against the background voices repeating the same words works better on record. It always sounds a bit too messy live.
