Really loving it.

Can't understand some of you folks.... course it's the lead song for the project. It's not a conventional single... singles are barely a thing anymore anyway.... and when an artist is deceased they're - for the most part - not going to have 'hits' in the conventional sense anyway.... but it's a promotional song for the upcoming project.... that's easy to understand, isn't it?

It's going to sell mostly to the already-converted. Very few new listeners are going to be pulled in by this, that's not the point of it...

And are people really confused by 'what he's trying to say' here?

I agree with the Sign O The Times connection... it's a different type of song to that, of course, but how many of you out there really understood every single word of the 'message' of Sign O The Times, (the song)?

Anyway, I think it's a strong track, and I love the production and sound, far more rich, organic and interesting to me than the sound of 20Ten, for example.

I probably won't listen to it much more at the moment, as I'm an album guy, and I'd like to hear the whole album without one of the tracks being overplayed in my head.... but I'm definitely looking forward to this album even more now!

And will be putting my pre-order for the deluxe edition - gotta have that black vinyl! - in with my local record shop as soon as it's up to order there. Very happy.

Also, the Orwell comment - simplistic as this is - is well played on here: the raising taxes voice over - reminiscent of the chocolate ration sequence in nineteen eighty-four. Nicely done.

Really glad something like this is what is released post his passing. Something meaningful that adds to his legacy instead of a silly pop song.

disagree. i'm on my 10th or so listen and still hearing new things that pop out, give it time, let it sink in... and most importantly think of it as the opening track to an album with potentially even better tracks on it!

Overall, while it's always nice to hear unheard Prince music - to hear his voice, his guitars, etc. again, ... I'm not that impressed with the song. It's just another 2000s mid-tempo rant featuring all of Prince's usual conspiracy-theory-leaning quirkisms - a theme he got a stuck on ad nauseam after the WB feud. File it under "poor man's version of United States of Division / Ol' Skool Company".

That said, from a historian's point of view, this will be a fascinating release irresepective of the quality of the songs themselves - i.e. to finally hear the missing link between 20Ten and Art Official Age as it was originally envisioned.

while i somewhat like the substance of "Welcome 2 America" a bit more (although i like the patriotism in Free... just because evil people run things, doesn't mean we can't like the idea of how America is suppose to be i.e equality, freedom for all, etc) based on music alone, Free is the better track

in 2019 Jeffrey Epstien killed himself (was likely murdered) in prison and was in prison because he was charged for sex trafficking children; he owned a certain island and invited many rich people to come stay and its been said that he'd blackmail many prominent figures in the world...

so what is a consipracy theory? because many things that were 'nutty conspiracy theories' 10, 20, 30 years ago are front page news today.

Prince was a true skeptic. I dig that.
