Coming 2 America

"Gett Off" is in the movie at the 43:23 mark. It's a fun rendition.

Contrary to popular Facebook posts, "Get Off" is not in the film. Only "Gett Off."

It's also the first song on the soundtrack with a WILD arrangement that clearly is not Prince related. I say WILD meaning not in a good way and I think they use Prince's original lead vocal.

This kind of thing makes me believe that holograms are not that far away.

I enjoyed it! Totally didn't see it coming but how they tied it in with the guy that sang "She's your Queen To Be" in the original was a very nice touch. I jumped to my feet and was dancing and singing at the top of my lungs. Perhaps it was a good thing, I was home because I'd likely have gotten put out of a movie theater. dancing jig whistle cloud9

I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

I don't hear Prince's voice, and I don't get your point - the track is credited to Teyana Taylor, Jerrmaine Fowler and Brandon Rogers. How does a cover of a previously released track lead to holograms, exactly?

Ok I don't know for a fact that it's Prince's voice and I've only listened to the 60 sec sample on iTunes but to my ears, I hear Prince's 1st verse vocal track before it fades out. Or it's a very faithful impression of his voice by someone else. I've actually never heard of the singers listed there.

And my point about holograms is that if the Estate allowed this bastardization of his voice (if that is the case), what's to stop them from allowing his image to used as a hologram in the future.

The track is available in full today on streaming services and doesn't feature Prince's vocals at all. Prince isn't credited vocally either. It's simply a cover version.

Fair enough. It sounds like P's voice but I'll take your word for it.

It's so silly, the movie I mean. Get off the remake is pretty good it's obviously the same song remade. Confused by the debate.

I loved it and I enjoyed the movie! They wasn't trying to match or top the original. They made magic all over again and I'm glad they did a sequel. I'm glad they put our man's song in the movie. It keeps his legacy alive.

I just saw that the "Gett Off" video on the official Prince Youtube account has had over 2 million new views since Friday. How that translates to increased finances is not in my wheelhouse but I'm sure the increase in exposure and interest can be a good thing.

Hate to be the bad guy here..but I really enjoyed the movie. I was expecting to be disappointed, but they did a great job with the storyline....SPOILER ALERT: the winks/paralells and flashbacks to the first movie was cool (and the nod to "Trading Places" was funny too). "Gett Off" was unexpected and I thought it was a nice subtle tribute to P.

Agree on both counts. Probably not as good as the first one but still enjoyable and some classic Eddie.
.
And the Gett Off cameo is cool, especially the ‘1, 2, 3 now little cutie..’ verse

I don't get all the harsh criticism of the film. It was not intended to be some high-brow offering. It was a fun throwback to the original film. Plus, I thought the nod to Prince with Gett Off was a nice touch. I just LOVE Eddie Murphy!! He is really Hollywood royalty. The man can reduce me to hysterics with just his eyebrows. Lastly, I really appreciate his continued collaborations with Wesley Snipes, who had been largely written off by the Hollywood establishment.

I haven't seen the film and so I have no comment on it. But I did see that Gett Off scene and it's just a cringey performance to me. The music arrangement sounds cool - I'll give it that. It makes sense for Prince to have performed it obviously but (and even though I haven't seen the film), I don't know why it would be included in this film. Can someone shed some light as to how it relates to the story line in the film?

A dictator from a neighbouring country to Zamunda is offering up his daughter as a potential wife for the long lost son of the Eddie Murphy charcter who is now heir to the throne of Zamunda. She is presented as being willing to be completely subservient to him hence being willing to commit to '22 positions in a one night stand' and to 'only call you after if you say I can'.

Yeah that sounds cringe to me. I mean, knowing that Prince would have never allowed that if he was alive considering how PC he had become on issues about women and race, I don't know why the Estate would allow that. Yes I know, I know, Prince is not around to make those decisions but this feels like regressive move in relation to his catalogue.

I mean, honestly, I love Eddie Murphy. He's one of the greats and a joke is a joke I get it but dude, don't you think that subservient woman thing is a little old now? Unless his character is mature now and he steps in to stop that kind of thing.

It's an updated equivalent to the scene in the original movie where the prince was presented his potential bride and her barking like a dog. And there are several previous scenes acknowledging some old skool classic favorites such as salt n pepa and Gladys knight. It about the context of the scene and aligning with the original movie. If you haven't seen the original then it wouldn't make sense.

I watched the movie today. I don't get why people are pissing on it. We laughed through the whole thing.

A prominent Black queer female author is on Twitter right now going on and on about how it's “exponentially more offensive, Anti-African, weirdly patriarchal, misogynistic, and transphobic than the original." and "This movie feels like it was written by aging white cis guys who are mad about MeToo, trans rights and Black Lives Matter.” She called Leslie Jones's character "a sexist and racist caricature." While continuing to watch, "This movie is so weird and awkward and terribly written.. I will never ever watch it again."

It's a fucking farce of a movie! It's a comedy. Maybe someone acts like Leslie's character, maybe most don't. But goddamn, no dude from Queens is in Africa snipping whiskers off a sleeping lion either. We gonna rail on that, too?

Christ, it's not like Eddie and Arsenio were drugged or tricked into doing it. There ain't no damn shaman snacking on foreskin, just wandering around palaces. And no one is likely doing a Afro-centric rendition of "Gett Off," either.

ANYWAY, I digress. No sequel is ever as good as the original, but this one was mostly worth the wait. Good to see Arsenio and Eddie doing something together again. The drop-in scenes from the club scene in the first one were well done, too.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.
