He's pretty much saying that coming from a Michael Jackson family Prince never came across his radar. Until Dave Chappelle. So he was shocked at just how legendary Prince was and how underrated he is because he always thought of him as a joke because of Chappelle.

Quite honestly a lot of the younger generation never had a formal introduction to Prince. It's been said ad nauseam, but not being on Youtube in the 2000s and early 2010s/smartphone era seriously hurt his exposure. My generation in mass didn't grow up with Prince. His pre-Purple Rain stuff is a bit raunchy for kids on top of that so you've got a problem. [Edited 3/13/21 16:26pm] | |

Meh. Prince was never usually as "pop" as Michael Jackson. He was raunchy, he was weird, he wasn't a child singer who everyone and their grandma grew up/old with. That's fine. Prince's legacy/success was never about being "the most popular." It was always about being the true artist. People confuse popularity with artistic quality, but time will sort it all out in the end. Yeah I have heard lots of jokes from people who only knew him as the gay(?) man who changed his name ala an Eminem lyricor tired pop culture joke. I too think this is all adding up to a big problem | |

This guy is saying he likes what he's hearing of Prince's work. He likes Adore, Purple Rain and Housequake. He really likes Prince's 'beat. He just was not exposed early on. | |

Let's be serious for a moment... this dimwit said he has NEVER heard a Prince song in his life up to this point. Think about that. Living in America for almost two decades ( I'm guessing his age) and he's never heard a Prince song. If anyone believes that then they are beyond gullible. |

Well.........this grandma has been putting on the Prince music for all her life. And funny, never was a MJ fan myself. Prince could do everything in music, MJ not so much. I just always went for the quality in every genre, didn't care about what other people listened to.
