I agree.

"Shy" is one of the most bland-ass boring songs he's ever written.

shy and count the days are the best response prince had to hip hop.

i.e. similiar subject matter, but no rapping or hip hop beats.

Prince is straight talking to fans in "Pearls B4 the Swine." It's a sweet little song, not over reaching itself to be a hit. Reminds me of something like "7 (acoustic verison)," "Space (Acoustic Version)," or "Pink Cashmere."

"Shy" lumbers along like someone with a broken foot who's high and lost one shoe while it's snowing.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

This website has never ceased to amaze me regarding what songs fans appreciate and how all over the place the opinions are. It's really interesting to me. I think it's mainly a testimony to Prince's range and how good he was at so many different styles. I can't really think of another artist that covered so much ground and musical range or whose fans disagree so much on "what's good".

"Shy" is great.

What I don't get is why someone gets their panties in an uproar because someone else doesn't like what they like. lol I don't like Gold Nigga but I don't care if someone else thinks it's the greatest thing since sliced bread. lol

only threads that get pulled are the remotely controversial ones.

its like prince himself is guiding the mods.

anything repetitious that covers the same old ground a million other threads have covered are always allowed.

so expect more threads like 'how come its already february and nothing is released yet?!'

"Shy" always holds a special place (along with "We March"), because prior to release, it was one of the only songs we hadn't heard yet.

I just relistened to it in full for the first time in years and was shocked how good it sounds. A lot of the complaints, in my opinion, are really not about songwriting or musicianship but about the big walloping sound and arrangements. If this had been cut in the 1980s and was recorded and arranged like Sign O The Times or Lovesexy, we'd probably be putting it in the "all time classic" category. But once you look past these very minor quibbles in the grand scheme of what's there, from Shhh to 319 to I Hate U and everything else, it sounds so damn great: funny, tortured, sexy, funky, and anthemic.

Oh, I agree.

It's just weird how wide ranging the tastes are for fans that all like the same artist. Compared to other fan boards I read, something like a top 10 list here is far more varied than others. I think it speaks more to Prince's range than anything.

Also, TGE is great and holds up fine. The addition of Micheal Bland alone gave Prince a sound he never he had before.
