If you were original, I'd have some respect for you. But you're literally just repeating what I've said in other threads in the last 10 minutes. Girl, BYE.

Cinny: make Emancipation into two disks, so to make it easier - list the songs you'd ditch.

No, Emancipation is exactly what I am talking about being at least as good as if not better than an eighties album like Around The World In A Day. It is my favourite and I don't understand people who rate it below the albums preceding it.

Emancipation could have been his best album of the decade-if he produced it differently. (think if he produced it using his SOTT sound [not saying he should-just using it as an example]. That would make it more exciting.) It needed to be a little bit more daring on the producing side for me.

99.9% of everything I say is strictly for my own entertainment

Fans who became a fan of Prince during the 90s are fighting for their lives about the man's music then 🤣

And? I mean, I became a fan in 2009....Purple Rain was the first song I heard. But I also love some of the 90's stuff. The love symbol album is a great album to me for example. I don't get why some people hate on prince in the 90's.

90s was good.
Not classic, but still very good.

After 2001 is when it really went downhill.

And I mean really downhill.

Coming from someone who became a fan of Prince during D&P 🤣

Don't talk about downhill and you weren't there in the 80s. After SOTT everything went downhill.

Answer this question for me.

Whenever someone talks about how awful Princes music in the 90s were. Why do you always HAVE to include the 00s and 10s? Is it because so you can feel like you didn't miss out on the golden days when Prince was amazing which were the 80s?

The way you defend the 90s is actually kinda sweet. Maybe it's your way of compensating the fact that you weren't around when Prince was in his prime... Who knows

It's all good.

Its perfectly fine to like the 90's work, just as it is not to like it.

But I will add one tidbit to this; In the 80's Prince was a critics darling and his work was pretty much universally praised. His 90's music not so much.

I also doubt that there will be enough demand to warrant deluxe editions of his 90's albums.

Dude, you know that shit wasn't taped to kinescope to be later lost by the DuMont Network right? Do you think living in the 80s is the only way to experience Prince in the 80s...? People who got into Prince in the 90s had access to Prince in the 80s... People who got into Prince in the 00s had access to Prince in the 80s... Not only that, the latest generation with Vault releases, YouTube, streaming, etc. has the most access to Prince in the 80s, even beyond that of supreme superfan JayCrawford in the 80s with his one Prince concert in the 80s under his belt.

It's an 'in the moment' thing. Experiencing Prince in the 80s is completely different from revisiting Prince from the 80s. To me experiencing Prince in the 80s and 90s was equally awesome (untill Emacipation that is). It's just a taste thing. As a musician I find his 90s output is way more impressive but in the end it's all about taste. JayCrawford obviously isn't a musician but just the average consumer with a specific taste like most. Nothing wrong with that even though he thinks his opinion is some sort of fact lol

I personally want my Parade, Dirty Mind and Controversy super deluxe edition to happen because like Andy said. Us original Prince fans aren't getting any younger and we need this shit to happen and THEN they can focus on the younger Prince fans of the 90s and onwards.

Deluxe editions should be handled like the coronavirus vaccines. Seniors are at higher risk of dying first so they should be the first to get their fix. Other groups come later. lol

LOL lol

His music after the 80s was less progressive, more often than not. I mean, I listen to this show of NPG at DNA lounge in San Francisco around the time of the Symbol record, and that show is as good as anything he ever did. But Dirty Mind through half of Grafitti Bridge is realy pushing the envelope as far as production, and just plain trying new shit.

I've always said, there's always something interesting on Prince records. Even the bad ones.

Yeah there was some solid stuff in the 90s, I think it's because it was the period when there were many noticeable peaks and troughs. Rave In2 was such a trough it sank Atlantis.

Totally agree with this. The only exceptions to it for me are NEWS and Planet Earth which I just found dull. NEWS because it was meandering dinner party music and PE because I just couldn't find a spark on it anywhere. All the rest of his records always gave me something to chew on even if the album as a whole was lacking.

Led to a lot of mix CD's over the last couple of decades.

I might agree with that. First time I heard it I was taken aback by its density, organic sounds and the amount of layering going on. It sounded like an actual band was playing. For better or for worse.
