Do you consider Thieves In The Temple to be a Prince classic?

It really is.

And the low quality acoustic demo sung in falsetto is haunting. Hope we can get a better quality one day.

Herbie Hancock did.

Also, his guitar work in the live version is very cool.

Despite having been on the treadmill for an hour earlier this morning I've just done my best Robin Power
for 3 extended THIEVES in a row -all over the bodega #cheeks #lips #face #vulva

Yes. A stone cold classic Prince song. This is, like When Doves Cry, something that is irresistably pop, yet something very uniquely Prince.

"New Power slide...."

The extended version is incredible, and the music video for it...man...Prince just seems to be having so much fun. He's absolutely in the zone during that video.

the extended version is just another padded out 12" version and unnecessary

but the album version is a classic, yes.

shame he didnt include more new songs on the graffiit bridge rather than reheating old ones, without improving them

Indeed, the extended version/music video is awesome. What about the live version ? Brilliant !

I would argue the exact opposite is true. The album version is just a generic song that doesn't go anywhere. I never listen it.

Where the song truly becomes great is after it fades on the album. It becomes almost an entirely different song. It's not padded -- it's not repeating parts present in the album version. It's adding whole new musical elements. And the passion he sings with is ramped up exponentially.

Good tune but.... it has that dated heavy handed drum sound. I wish it had a more natural or more funky drum sound.

No. The first time I heard it, I thought it was a welcome return to Prince form but after awhile it falls flat. Interesting ideas but just not one of the greats.
