What are the most Prince-ly non-Prince songs??? Songs that weren’t written by him but super sound like him??
Sure, there are the obvious ones... Oh Sheila by Ready For The World... But what about off-the-beaten-path songs?? Here’s one: Chewing Gum by Elvis Costello from the album Spike. I could really see Prince writing this when he first formed the Hornheadz. Like a b-side from the D&P Era. [Edited 10/27/20 14:58pm]

White Knuckles - OK Go - channels Prince like you wouldn't believe.
I always wished Prince had written Heroes or Fashion, they seem to me to be very Paisley.

OK Go's "White Knuckles" channels "I Would Die 4 U" hard. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Starpoint - 'It's So Delicious' (1983) ⠀ Andre Cymone - 'Lipstick Lover' (1985) ⠀ Jak - 'Sixty Nine' (1985) ⠀ Midnight Star - 'Girls Got Something' (1985) ⠀ George Clinton - 'Do Fries Go with That Shake?' (1986) ⠀ Mazarati - 'Champagne Saturday' (1986) ⠀ Mazarati - 'Player's Ball' (1986) ⠀ Mazarati - 'Suzy' (1986) ⠀ Sheila E - 'Hon E Man' (1987) ⠀ Wendy & Lisa - 'Everything but You' (1987) ⠀ ⠀ Natural Selection - 'Do Anything' (1991) ⠀ Sheila E - 'Cry Baby' (1991) ⠀
Perhaps not the 'most Prince-ly', but falling somewhere along a spectrum of from strongly influenced to outright imitation. . [Edited 10/27/20 15:00pm]

Oh Sheila is definitely one. It sounds like a mix of Prince and Morris Day and The Time.

I suppose one of us should mention Uptown Funk, just to get it out of the way.

Dude, that Ok Go song, LOL.
MASSIVE PURPLE VIBES THERE! Espeically that higher pitched synth lick in the intro and chorus.
It's almost like it's purposeful... [Edited 10/27/20 15:12pm]

I didn't know the name of the artist, but as soon as I saw the title I knew what you were referring to. Bumping it on the train as I type. Thank you very much. (And yes, I'd mistaken it as a Prince outtake for a time.)

- I wish he wrote these songs or at least covered them : Liesa Van Der Aa : ''Inhale'' (from ''Easy Alice'' album) - (the complexity of it...) Roisín Murphy - ''Rama Lam (Bang Bang)'' - (th'e weirdness of it all) Grace Jones - ''Pull Up To The Bumper'' - (love to hear him do a BlackAlbum-ish sound on that one) Grace Jones - ''Night Clubbing'' - (ah... a 1982 type a song for him to do) d'Angelo - ''Chicken Grease'' - (speaks for itself) Talk Talk - ''Life's What You Make It'' - (with a stunning Prince guitar solo... just imagine...) Talk Talk - ''Happiness is easy'' (serious pop Prince would do wonders to this i believe) Michael Jackson - ''Bad'' - (the duet, just for that first line...) Robert Palmer - ''Want You More'' - (with a 1985 W&Lisa involvement, hmmmmm) Madonna - ''Erotica'' (Prince would do it nastier) Madonna - ''Into The Groove'' - (i remember her live version with the Keith Haring style, it was so great ! But an 80'S Prince-sound would do great things to this song) Radiohead - '''Everything In It's Right Place'' - (for the monotonous greatness of it, SOTT era-ish sound) The Police - ''Synchornicity'' - (with a Batman-ish sound to it) Donna Summer - ''I Feel Love'' - (extended version with a 1979 vide to it) Aretha Franklin - ''Spanish Harlem'' - (for the vocals of it) AC/DC - ''Whole Lotta rosie'' - (let Prince rock on this) The Doobie Brothers - ''What A Fool Believes'' - (again for his fantastic harmonies on this) Steely Dan - ''Peg'' - (for artty farty reasons, but then the good ones) SLy & Robbie - ''Boops'' - (that!) Pink Floyd - ''Shine On You Crazy Dimaond'' - (just fot the extended guitar soloing Prince of it) Les Rita Mitsuko - ''Singing In The Shower'' - (poppy Prince) - and so much more -

BTW, OK Go was one of the best concerts I've ever been to. They were phenomenal and weird and inventive and everything a fan of theirs would expect. This was the Hungry Ghosts tour. Tbh, I think all of their records have a strong but subtle Prince vibe, but they did go over the top with it on Blue Sky and Hungry Ghosts (in a good way, imo).
