That album should be called "Of the Purple Colour of the Sky" (rather than Blue). The whole thing (listen to the songs WTF and Skyscraper, too) bleeds purple - something the OK Go guys freely admitted.

BTW, OK Go was one of the best concerts I've ever been to. They were phenomenal and weird and inventive and everything a fan of theirs would expect. This was the Hungry Ghosts tour. Tbh, I think all of their records have a strong but subtle Prince vibe, but they did go over the top with it on Blue Sky and Hungry Ghosts (in a good way, imo).

They came to Madison once (around the itme of Blue Sky) and I'm still kicking myself for missing it.

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

So many from 80s radio...but Janet Jackson's "Escapade" is pure Prince via Jam/Lewis.

Sam Sparro is an unabashed prince fan. Return To Paradise has prince all over if (especially the title track and The Shallow End).

just this morning heard something rather new on the radio

Ed Prosek - make it easy

very Princely, very unknown but like it instantly

not for being princely but for being princely and really good

sad this stuff isn't recognized more...check it out

Kind of a fun thread so thanks for starting it, OP.

I keep thinking of new ones off the top of my head

"Control" - Janet Jackson
"What Have You Done for me Lately?" - Janet Jackson
"On the Bound" - Fiona Apple
"This Love" - Maroon 5
"Sussudio" - Phil Collins

These are a few songs that my sister thought WERE Prince:

D'Angelo "Untitled"
RFTW - "Oh Sheila" (the "Sheila" part convinced people even more!)
Natural Selection - "Do Anything"

A few more that sound Princey-ly:

TLC - "Waterfalls" or "Creep"
Beck - "Debra"

Jason Derulo - "Want To Want Me"

sussudio is more EWF influenced...he even used the EWF horn section on that joint..but with 1999 type synth lines... i get it

I don't think songs that came out before Prince hit large really count (?)

Unless I'm missing the spirit of the thread.

There were no qualifiers.

That's why I also included "A Case of You."

Can you really listen to those 2 songs and not think they sound Princely?

I wish he wrote these songs or at least covered them :

Liesa Van Der Aa : ''Inhale'' (from ''Easy Alice'' album) - (the complexity of it...)

Roisín Murphy - ''Rama Lam (Bang Bang)'' - (th'e weirdness of it all)

Grace Jones - ''Pull Up To The Bumper'' - (love to hear him do a BlackAlbum-ish sound on that one)

Grace Jones - ''Night Clubbing'' - (ah... a 1982 type a song for him to do)

d'Angelo - ''Chicken Grease'' - (speaks for itself)

Talk Talk - ''Life's What You Make It'' - (with a stunning Prince guitar solo... just imagine...)

Talk Talk - ''Happiness is easy'' (serious pop Prince would do wonders to this i believe)

Michael Jackson - ''Bad'' - (the duet, just for that first line...)

Robert Palmer - ''Want You More'' - (with a 1985 W&Lisa involvement, hmmmmm)

Madonna - ''Erotica'' (Prince would do it nastier)

Madonna - ''Into The Groove'' - (i remember her live version with the Keith Haring style, it was so great ! But an 80'S Prince-sound would do great things to this song)

Radiohead - '''Everything In It's Right Place'' - (for the monotonous greatness of it, SOTT era-ish sound)

The Police - ''Synchornicity'' - (with a Batman-ish sound to it)

Donna Summer - ''I Feel Love'' - (extended version with a 1979 vide to it)

Aretha Franklin - ''Spanish Harlem'' - (for the vocals of it)

AC/DC - ''Whole Lotta rosie'' - (let Prince rock on this)

The Doobie Brothers - ''What A Fool Believes'' - (again for his fantastic harmonies on this)

Steely Dan - ''Peg'' - (for artty farty reasons, but then the good ones)

SLy & Robbie - ''Boops'' - (that!)

Pink Floyd - ''Shine On You Crazy Dimaond'' - (just fot the extended guitar soloing Prince of it)

Les Rita Mitsuko - ''Singing In The Shower'' - (poppy Prince)

-

and so much more

-

[Edited 10/28/20 5:10am]

Love Roisin!! I always thought "Ruby Blue" and "Movie Star" and "Dear Miami" had Princey vibes.

-

Well smile then you have to listen to her new album ''Roisin Machine'' !

It's the best DISCO ever reinvented. Disco is on a revival. Gaga's last album, Doja Cat, The Weekend, Kylie's new album, all shamlessly reliving the Dicso era with loads of gourgeous sloppy repetitive pumping and heavenly cheesy embellishments.

Liesa Van Der Aa - ''Inhale''

Unknow to most of you I'm sure.

This fucked up crazy track is like one long (7+ minutes) 'next level Prince'.

Give it a spin.

As if she does a crossover between Prince's 'Crystal Ball' and 'Calhoun Square' on this one, imho.

The weirdest conversations and whimsical going-ons.

Nice musical turns and funky basslines, witchy fill-ins and Princey voice pitchings.

And those crazy conversations.

-

Actually the whole album ''Easy Alice'' is like that.

Suprisingly fresh and unique in it's sound and songs.
