Interesting that the engineer confirmed that Prince liked French sparkling water Perrier (mentioned in the song "Yah, You Know" and seen on the console in the picture below).

Which magazine is on the console and who is the model?

Yes, I thought about stuff in that direction.

Chili sauce?

lol I was wondering who you were gonna find to pick on in this episode, what with the lack of W&L.

Loved this episode. It was great hearing from Coke Johnson about Prince in the studio, as well as the Crystal Ball dispute.

"...i didnt get involved in his personal affairs or his business affairs, for that matter..."

~ Susan Rogers - Episode 5

meanwhile she spends her entire adult life (including immediately after saying that) getting clout and money talking about Prince's personal and business affairs...where do the lies end and where does the truth begin?... let Lenny Waronker talk more, and lets be done with Fred Rogers' twin sister

- He's dead.

- It's been a few years since she left.

- Everybody has written a book. She did not but gives interviews.

- You exaggerate quite a bit

I thought the story about Crystal Ball was really interesting, and I loved Lenny’s recount. I’m surprised Prince didn’t fight for it. Maybe he agreed it would be better if he shortened it. Or maybe he just really respected Lenny’s opinion.

I’m perplexed by Susan’s bemusement toward the boundless joy that seemed to be emanating from him while his “world was falling apart.” Wouldn’t you be pretty fucking ecstatic if you had all of this incredible music gushing out of you, and a new bad ass band to play it with? Prince created his own joy through music, and carved out his own reality. Nothing was more important than the music.

You did.

You make a distinction between book authors and people giving interviews.

You perceive the first category as a non-issue while you do take issue with the other.

You can choose to ignore things.

Same like choosing to feel offended. (a common thing in the english speaking world)

Best episode yet. Coke was the highlight and I'm hoping we hear more from him in the future. I love that Prince liked famous amos cookies in small bags. The part with Daphne was blah. She was using a lot of big words and saying nothing. If we want to get a black perspective then maybe they should talk to people like Donnie Simpson, Steve Ivory, Spike Lee, etc. I think there are also some fans like Darling Nisi that get it.

:

Anyone that tries to give us insight on what Prince was thinking, his inspiration or what he was feeling should be taken with a grain of salt because Prince did not let anyone know him like that and he especially did not let an employee know him like that. I find Susan's perspective to be interesting, but not insightful. It really is not for her to say that the inspiration for some of the songs on SOTT was from the neck up.

I find Susan's perspective to be both interesting and insightful, just not necessarily correct, you know? We'll hear from the SOTT band next week who i'm sure won't agree that he was faking anything.

I do agree the professor was a bit word salad in this episode. I suppose some people might like it but I think she'd need a full course rather than 40 seconds to get that kind of point across.

Also yeah we don't need Darling Nisi talking about this good lord. Maybe his 90s stuff when he goes full astrology lol Get Nelson George on though, that'd be good.

Oh here we go with the Camille talk 🙄
The only people who are claiming Camille was intended to be this ‘gender-bending’ ‘gender roles breaking’ thing is everyone BUT Prince and whoever was actually close to him.

There’s no indication that Camille is Prince’s ‘female’ side. This stuff has been hyped up by fans who want to bend reality just so they can feel Prince was their own version that they wanted him to be

I don’t have a problem with lgbt or anything gender. But to try to make something fit the role of a movement when that clearly wasn’t the case. Everyone wants Prince to be something they feel Prince is/was and they’ll never let him be Prince

I agree with you...I do think it was just him tinkering with the voice pitch machine and thought...oooh this could be another way to get music out under a pseudonym. Who knows...

However,

I think people immediately think that because of the name "Camille" based on Herculine "Camille/Alexina" Barbin, the famous French hermaphrodite. It's no "movement" people are trying to attach Prince to. Please.

It's funny hearing the Camille songs in order like that (I've never made a playlist). Made me think (a) what incredible tracks would have been on that record but (b) a whole album of that voice would have been quite annoying, and detrimental to the tracks. Made me glad they got spread out among albums / b-sides.

Here's my two cents.

Anyone who thinks 'Camille' is a female persona isn't paying attention. If Camille was supposed to be female then the song 'If I Was Your Girlfriend' no longer makes any sense.

"Will you remember, and tell me all the things you forgot WHEN I WAS YOUR MAN!"

Of all the people who've given interviews, etc. regarding their time with Prince, Susan Rogers is the most complimentary and professional. That's her claim to fame, working for Prince.

Wrong on all accounts. Educated doesn't mean arrogant.
