A poor attempt at deflection. One doesn’t have to comb thru this forum to find you, either. Your nasty ass posts are everywhere. Stop it. Now.

Getting a lecture on meanness and nastiness from someone, on this very thread, who describes a Prince associate, with no merit whatsoever, as “obnoxious” and “arrogant” with a “fake accent”. Ha-ha. Hypocrisy much? As I’ve said before, you need to be called out, and that’s what Im doing. Stop it. Now.

I think it’s strange that Susan references “It” as being one of his deeper songs. Am I missing something here? hmmm

One could learn a lot about how someone expresses their affection from it's lyrics I suppose. I think the key is the line "I gotta tell you what you mean to me" when the entire song is about having sex. Kind makes you think, well, why not just say you love her? lol. What does the urgent and constant sex have to do with it?

I mean she compares It with Sign O The Times, The Cross, and Adore. Definitely a head-scratcher. Or maybe she meant the secret first version that was too personal, and was subsequently destroyed.

the placement of the Camille character as a she doesn't really fit for me and feels forced from a 2020 point of view of culture.

I always feel that Camille is a man character Who is used as 3rd person to connect to all kind of issues of plain love and lust to the woman or Women he is related. There is a feminine side to it but more as interfacing Prince his unspoken feeling to Someone who was to close by.

Yep, so much of this new release is being forced through a 2020 filter, unfortunately. I wished the release was more of a historic account of the process from people who were there - instead much of it filled with subjective academic drivel.

Ain't nothin arrogant or obnoxious about Susan, if anything you're obnoxious. Be glad that there was people around that knew Prince inside and out. He should've been grateful for that. It's not good when nobody, not family, not friends knows you.

Daphne Brooks is someone who loves prince but cannot square her love for him with the parts of him that dont fit with her politics so she almost shoehorns him into theories shes comfortable with and that have the most fashionable modern relevance. It's like admitting prince could fall outside those lines would deeply hurt her personally. Also, camille came from sly and stevie, not just p funk. Not everything prince did was easily tied to tradition. As is right for anyone considered to be an innovator. Sly broke with tradition too. As did miles. And so on.

I love Susan Rogers and shes always interesting but not all artists write in the way shed have liked prince to. Yes its is weird he didnt write about the breakup with the band but that's just how he was. He converted it into anger and spite rather than about being wounded. Also he might not have written about the sadness but you can hear that slightly wounded weariness in his voice on the album. That's what makes sott different. It wasnt prince as cocksure as normal. This is the same reason he stopped the black album. It showed his feelings, his anger. And he wanted to control that. Instead he gave us lovesexy which showed how happy and reborn he was.

Why is there still no sheila e???

Oh here we go with the Camille talk 🙄 The only people who are claiming Camille was intended to be this ‘gender-bending’ ‘gender roles breaking’ thing is everyone BUT Prince and whoever was actually close to him. There’s no indication that Camille is Prince’s ‘female’ side. This stuff has been hyped up by fans who want to bend reality just so they can feel Prince was their own version that they wanted him to be

Here's my two cents.

Anyone who thinks 'Camille' is a female persona isn't paying attention. If Camille was supposed to be female then the song 'If I Was Your Girlfriend' no longer makes any sense.

"Will you remember, and tell me all the things you forgot WHEN I WAS YOUR MAN!"

Its sung from the pov of a trans woman remembering when she was a man

the lyrics suggest more a possessive part of someone in a relation who wants to control all of its ,in an area where he can not and doesn't understand. There seems to be a need to connect, been seen and especially been heard in it.

for it reflects a part of Prince who was quite controlling In his own relations with woman.

It was interesting hearing Warner Bros perspective. I didn't know he submitted the triple album Crystal Ball for release and was really mad they wouldn't release it. They were only interested in commercial success. Thats probably why he went back in the studio and recorded U Got The Look. Zappa went through the same thing when he submitted the triple album Läther and they wouldn't release it.

Yep and that's what makes super deluxe so disappointing to me that the TITTLE TRACK opus was relegated to a 7" edit. After all of these years with a commemorative release they still chose to edit down his work. To me that is so disrespectful and what makes it such a disappointment.

Unless there were indeed legal issues with the full version due to its inclusion on CB '98? None of the tracks that were on that release are on this release with the exception of a shortened edit, and a different version of Crucial from that release

Yes apparently there may have been rights issues, but still, if you're going to do this right you iron them out and not go on to a half ass release.

.

Ultimately I need to walk away from this discussion becasue the more I think of it the more disappointed I get. There is a lot to be happy about this release so i need to exit this discussion and not spoil other's enjoyment of it.

Awww, don't be jelly that you did not get to spend 24/7 with our purple maestro!! I would say, considering Prince called Susan to PP the night of his "X" trip (which has been confirmed by multiple sources) to tell her he loved her, I think she's got some credibility in knowing certain things about what was going on in his life at that time.

*

Oh, and she literally never speaks any other way, so I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that she is not speaking with a "fake accent" lol

Wrong on all accounts. Educated doesn't mean arrogant.

BOOM!!! Exactly. She's highly educated, smart, and eloquent. However, haters gonna hate, so they twist that into "arrogant" in order to be critical. It's okay though, because unlike anyone commenting here, SHE worked with Prince for 4 years. biggrin
