Stunning performance, every minute. Miles and Prince... magical; loved it when Prince blew him a kiss. Amazing band, and band leader par excellence. Loved seeing Prince on guitar, drums, piano, dancing his ass off while conducting the band. Doesn't get any better.

I love this so much.

It's not my favourite band, or my favourite era, or my favourite setlist. But I love love love how close the cameras got for the whole show, it's so rare to capture all the nuances of a performance so clearly. I love how relaxed and jokey Prince was at this show as well. And goddamn, Cat was so great - she worked her ass off for those two hours with a big smile on her face, brought so much energy.

I'm not really that big on U Got the Look. It's one of my least faves of his hits but god damn does he sell that shit. That chugging guitar riff...

OK I like this song now.

Same. Loved it when he jumped up on the piano!

I'd pay more for a rare performance from 87 of Adore and captured on film.

Because that would enable a 4K release.

Were any of these 80s concerts recorded on film?

Just watched through to the end. Incredible. I'd seen a clip of the Miles bit and had always found it cringey. In context here it was awesome. They're both clearly intimidated by each other and it clearly could have soared way higher (if P had picked up an instrument!). It felt like P felt he could only match Miles if his instrument was the whole band. Ten years later I think P would have been more confident, if only they'd been able to play together in 2004-6...

Can't help you with that info.

But his usual recordings of rehearsals, performances etc were on video.

Film would be either quite old skool or on special request (by Prince?) to get archival quality content.

I loved every minute of it. The guitar tech definitely got fired though. His guitar ain’t really start kicking til I could never take the place of your man. I feel like this was the SOTT tour with an after show feel. But also him and the band in transition. Lovesexy medleys and clothing coming in.

Loved seeing miles Davis. As far as the band? Easily his best. They’re P-funk mixed with jazz fusion all by way of Oakland ! They’re beyond right and way better than the band that came before it. All those changes during beautiful night? Come on. Man

Only 4 pages for an incredible, stellar live release from the estate? The stuff we've been begging for?

I watched it Saturday and then immediately rewound it and watched it again.

Love how Eric Leeds and Matt Blistan can't take their eyes off Miles when he's on stage. (And apparently the band kept missing cues? but I can't see that)

Something was wrong with that cameo. Aside from "holy shit, it's Miles Davis", the end result was pretty scattershot and underwhelming overall. I chalked it up to Miles maybe being on junk or something but, regardless, if you just heard the audio and had no idea Davis was onstage, you'd never claim you heard something incredible or game changing in the show.

Probably quite the opposite if we're being honest.

I suppose the band being in awe could be an explanation but, regardless, it was hardly a show stopper aside from Miles' simply being there and his sheer presence on stage.

...well, i had half of the show for years and watched now the whole thing. I didnt like it that much back in the day, and still don’t like it...way tooo much jazz in it... those two horn-guys... i cant stand them here and on the lovesexy tour..the whole mineapolis sound is almost gone...where it use to b synths are now horns...WTF.
Im glad he kicked them with the nude tour.
Overall, prince seems to use a lot of gain (and reverb) for his vocals, so im not really impressed with his singing, especially adore and other songs where its seems as if he would whisper them..no real power.
Before u all literally kill me, please check his live vocals on the video for live4love....man this is amazing. Take a look at his stomach and his breathing while singing , this is the real deal.

Many of the aftershows, rehearsals and possibly some of the main shows were actually captured on film during 1988 for a one time planned movie documentary. You can see cans of film on the shelves of the upstairs video vault in Paisley that the police took pictures of.

Hope to one day see all that material get released in some fashion on day. A 4K disc would be nice.

I couldn't here the guitar on ICNTTPOYM until the first solo. Was it even on?

Prince was showing him up heavily lol, Miles didn't know wtf was going on and rightfully so. He looked cheesed. Usually with such a big guest you're gonna play something they can do their thing on and not interfere, which is what I'm sure Miles was expecting.

But that's the most interesting thing about their relationship, which seemed to be pretty intimate, as Prince had no issue tryna clown him lol. Clearly Prince was feeling himself but man during such a show who could blame him. Nobody but JB ever wrecked the stage the way P did at his best.

Have you ever seen Miles on stage? lol He basically always looked like that. Why would he not know what’s going on? Nothing out of the ordinary going on.

Yeah, Miles knew exactly what to do with this performance. It is just a funk jam in D, Miles rips on that stuff in his sleep lol, I just took this as just a fun little cameo where Miles instead of being showboaty was grooving and adding some cool melodic lines to it all

Great video. The fact the recording isn’t exceptional almost adds to it.

Brilliant mix of real show and aftershow. It definitely looks like Prince is practically telling Miles to piss off at the end though. He’s literally showing him the door after Miles doesn’t take the first hint.

Yeah, it was fun. Nothing earth-shattering. Prince was definitely intimidated at the beginning and then relaxed a little. Miles was clean in 1987 as far as I remember, so, no, he was not "on junk". He looks definitely like Miles to me. cool Eric and Matt were clearly happy to be part of that moment.

It’s exactly the opposite. Miles is done and Prince is quite literally bending backwards to see if he‘s leaving. Then points his finger at him to acknowledge him.

Yes I have. Enough to know that he's not going to be amused when you start calling elaborate cues, dancing in front of him, and scatting in the middle of him soloing. Miles can solo over anything, but interrupting him is a little different.

That's just the way I saw it, just basing it off what I've learned about Miles, their unique relationship, and some tidbits I heard somewhere about Miles claiming Prince set him up afterwards. But again that could be a misquote or completely made up for that matter.

That being said I get the outrageous feeling that P sees Miles more like a contemporary here than...fucking MILES DAVIS. You'll never get this kind of trippy cameo under different circumstances

Great show. Loved Sheila's solo. I didn't know Sheila did her solo barefoot. A great piece of musical history

It's easier to play minus shoes than it is to play in heels, so I guess she was taking it easy that night.

I like the story about how Miles Davis said, "That little mother fucker ambushed me" in regards to Prince's hand signals and musical queues to the band that Miles knew nothing about. If you look at the performance again through the lens of that quote Miles looks annoyed and frustrated at times. Prince pulled that same shit on Sting when Sting sat in on bass at some aftershow.
