I have little to no trust in Mr. Howe's word since he's been caught lying to us on several occasions, but I fail to understand the kind of reasoning that leads someone to assume there's a lie when there is in fact no evidence of a lie. There could be a lie, but why should the default reasoning be to assume there is one?
As for Sewzan Rawjerz and the cassette mixdown, I'm totally confused when it comes to what did or did not happen.
this is howe i know there's some weird shit going down
SUMMER 2019:
“(Hesitates, grunts, sighs painfully) That is a difficult one for me to answer. Look, I'll tell you this: there is probably more than what you think related to that track. Whatever may or may not happen with that, I do not know, let alone speculate about it. You will have to draw your conclusion from my cryptic answer, I fear (laughs). I am not deliberately trying to be so reserved. If it was up to me, you would get the most honest answer to your question. It is very tricky to be frank about this.”
SUMMER 2020:
"That’s a good question. There were things that are rumoured to exist, including the mythical first version of the song ‘Wally’, which Susan Rogers has said many times was wiped from the two-inch tape. We searched every corner to determine if there was even a rough mix of that, or a cassette version, and we could not find it." |

Then, if so, EVERYBODY will be in here...bitching about it being sourced from a cassette. Can't we just be excited about the version we're going to be getting in a week?
this is just me, but i think the bold generation on 1999 sde has more oomph and energy than any of the stuff sourced from the masters. it feels like the song sounds. maybe the song is just high energy and thick enough to suit being cassette sourced though
not that i want cassette-sourced recordings all the time... well actually maybe i do if they're going to play god with mixing choices. |

I'd forgotten the 2019 reply. Thius dude is weird. What does he mean "more than we think"? What could there be? ANd I'm so fed-up with this confidentiality agreement BS. How the fuck is that useful to the Estate?
.
On a sidenote, and while I'm curious, I don't think I could ever take this song seriously, even the original mix. I mean seriously, guys, it's Wally's Glasses I fail to see how anyone who's heard the rehearsal first could possibly be moved by Wally. When I first got the song, I tried it with my GF, who knew the rehearsal because we tripped on it a lot, and she was like "well, no, LMAO". |

More than we think could just be referring to the song existing. If he thought that we all thought there was only the original and it was erased, it would make sense. And he wasn't allowed to talk because of NDA. In 2020 if he then knows that the re-recorded version is out there anyway, then he can be a bit more specific.

It's odd... like, I assume the estate are the ones who set up the yearly M. Howe world press tour... just so he can evade questions and say he can't answer because of the confidentiality agreement? Why have him do interviews in the first place then..? Keep the old school Prince cloak of mystery if he's going to have to don the Prince cloak of crypticy every other time he's questioned... Cool graph. I would suggest making one with all 3 configs of DF for good measure
Unfortunately M. Howe's idea was BS, since all we can get is an approximation.
I'd also like to remind the crowds that CB86, at least, has leaked in a very decent sound quality, and that it's a better listen that the fanmade atrocities that are likely to appear soon online. |

Cause and efect?
One needs a Wally #1 for a Wally #2 to exist.
Only if the events that destroyed #1 never happened, #2 would not exist.
Even #1 would not exist, it would simpy be Wally, in such case. Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry. |

Hopefully we can forget Wally 1 once we've all come to realise how magnificent Wally is.
If this doesn't leak thi afternoon I will have to wait until Friday as I'm not going to have the time after today to real listen to it and that will be so hard. [Edited 9/19/20 5:39am] |

Hi Databank.
That's the beauty of the song. It sounds like a song about a pair of glasses, but it's never about them. The glasses are trivial and immaterial to what is really happening. The reveal comes right at the end of the song. "She was the only one in the world that I could talk to".
The reason Prince starts the song talking about things that aren't important is because he has no-one to talk to about how he really feels. What's important to him. He hasn't got that kind of relationship with Wally, or anyone for that matter. As the song goes on he begins opening up, telling Wally how he really feels. The glasses were nothing more than a pretence to get to what he really wants to talk about. The fact that he was alone and in pain. It's a cry for help. As soon as the conversation starts to get raw, a little uncomfortable, or to a level he doesn't feel he can go to with Wally, he reverts back to that trivial point. That island of safety. That topic he feels comfortable talking about with a mate. Something as trivial as a cup of tea, a photo in a magazine, or a freaky pair of glasses.

Do you think when Howe says 'there is probably more than what you think' he could be referring to the re-recorded version? Did the interviewer ask him specifically about version 1 of Wally, or just the song Wally in general?

You make a great point. To clarify, the rehearsal ruined it for me, without it I'd probably find it moving. But now idk it's as if P had written a deep sad song about his friend Cloreen Baconskin. Maybe after a while it'll grow up on me, the reissue will bring me to listen to it often. |
