I’ll fire up Audacity later and post some comparisons for you all. Like I said in the post that apparently got me banned, Bernie’s ear is still one of the best in the business. It goes without saying he understands how important dynamic frequencies are, not only on this record but all music recorded before 1993. He’s not just going to twist all the knobs up to 11 so it sounds like wild mercury to 11 year olds with iPhone speakers. The remaster is excellent to my ears, familiar yet undoubtedly fresh. The synths on Hot Thing will slice your face off if you get too close to the speaker.

That is what I liked about the 1999 remaster. Sure the DR numbers are a tiny bit lessened on that one but it really didn't effect the dynamic effect of the audio and really, along with his EQ choices, tightened up the sound of that album and gave it a fuller bodied quality to it all. If SOTT was handled with the same methods we are in great hands

I have high hopes for the SOTT remaster after 1999, which was great. I am not expecting to be gutted. I hope they get around to doing a new remaster of Purple Rain at some point.

BTW is it known why the album is still on 2 CDs when technology should allow it to fit on one? Did I miss something?

1987 style authenticity

My understanding is that P thought the album in terms of vinyl (perhaps his last album conceived this way?), so following this logic it should be 1 CD per side, Besides, the dominant format is streaming now, so not sure what difference it makes.

This morning I was notified by Amazon that my expected delivery date is 9/29. One the one hand that's not terrible (their delay for 1999 SDE was two weeks). But on the other hand, I don't understand why I need to wait even four days. I ordered the set the day it was announced, so I should be at the top of the queue, and I have Prime. I want it on the day it's released.

I guess this means I'll be driving around to Barnes and Nobles on the 25th trying to find a copy and then cancelling my Amazon order (which is what I did with 1999 SDE).

Mine's still showing as September 25th, but my 1999 order was fine up until a day or two before it shipped, when they changed it and it was delayed by a couple of days. So there's a chance Amazon might still do the same with this order.

Not really too bothered either way though, I'l still be listening on Apple Music on the 25th, so no big deal.

Lovesexy was the first album to be released on CD *before* the LP. Sign Of The Times was still released on LP before CD. So yes, I do think it's the last album that was thought of as a vinyl album, with 4 sides. And they were apparently still hesitant, for whatever reason, to make long CDs. 1999 was still missing DMSR on the cd version at the time, and it's a shorter album.

My understanding is that it was a matter of technology, apparently the length of CDs was about 70mn at first, later extended to 80mn (hence the 1999 delay). So by 1987 SOTT couldn't fit on a CD and I never questioned the fact that they'd simply keep reprinting it as such, but a reissue, after all, could have been on one CD. Not that it matters so much, but IDK why they kept it on 2 CDs.

Yeah, I'm getting a digital version too. This is partly my own admitted impatience, but there is principle as well: Why can't Amazon get me a product the day it's released? I've had this issue with several non-Prince purchases I've made recently as well. Amazon seems to be terrible at putting new products in people's hands they day they're released.

Amazon used to do very well with getting new releases into the hands of Prime members by the release date. However, IIRC, as a Prime member you had to an pay extra $3.99 for 1 day delivery to get it on the release date.

My arrival date is 9/29/2020 but I hope to get it Saturday or Sunday.

Can anyone please tell me what the deal is with the tracks in Tidal, are they the real thing? Or at least explain the different points of view and tell me about the available 'evidence' regarding the 'remastered' SOTT tracks on Tidal?

And please refrain from bashing Casey Rain (or anyone else), I would just like to be informed about what I have missed in the locked Part2 of this thread regarding the Tidal tracks.

I haven't got Tidal but only 6 tracks have been released from Super Deluxe to this point. Anything they have over that is not from the proper release.

I guess some of us wish it was eirher condensed to 1 CD so the boxset could accommodate even more unrealeased material or perhaps a have a price reduction instead.

Amazon still do well for me, I use them a lot and they've always been fine with getting pre orders to me on the release day. The only memorable exception to that, funnily enough, was 1999 SDE. If there's a problem with SOTT I'm gonna start thinking the problem lies with the estate somehow.

So amazon.com.au have a promo that will take $10 off if you book for the first time using their app. I cancelled and rebooked and it applied the discount. Every little bit helps!
