Damn, that price though sad

Not a problem. It's quite a bit cheaper on Amazon Italy;

https://www.amazon.it/Sig...amp;sr=8-1

That's a better price, thanks biggrin

I wish Amazon would sort its pricing out. I can't see any reason for the price fluctuations other than they think they can squeeze more money out of UK fans maybe? ...

Do it through CD's.

True, but The Black Album CD is painfully muddy and quiet. It won't sound anything like the new tracks as far as sonic quality.

It's even worse than the Sign o' the Times cd. I hope they get to this one sooner rather than later...

You've got that right.

They must think we are either fools or that for most of us, money is no object. You can pay £49.99 on iTunes UK or £199.99 on Amazon Uk if you feel you MUST have the dvd and book/packaging. Nobody can convince me that any DVD + packaging is worth £150....and with 1999 SDE having been in the range of £60 - £70? To say I am mightliy pissed off is putting it mildly.

I remember seeing Ultimate Rave and the 1999 Deluxe sets in HMV relatively cheap a few months after release, so it might be worth holding out to see if this one crops up cheaper in stores ... at £200 I can't see them shifting as many units as they think they will.

Absolutely agree. They did the same when they released 'dont let him fool ya' with the 1999 set.

Respectfully disagree. I think it's a smart strategy actually. You have to pace yourself. Can't come super hot right out of the gate. Its the art of promotion at work here. Give listeners a taste of what's to come. Like those sample stations at Costco. Get them eager to buy the whole package. Besides...It's a great song IMO.

if ur obsessed enough to buy this box set you might as well get yourself some audio software so that you can "remaster" or at least bring the volumes close enough to make your multiple configurations .. i quite prefer my music unmastered as i feel it ruins and muddies the sound and tend to bring down the loudness on the new stuff rather than crank up the old perfectly good sounding cds to make my mixes ... i didn't touch much on 1999 but that pr deluxe i had to edit and eq to make something that did not hurt my ears .. its a shame dream factory and last heart wont be included with at least consistent mastering .. prince would really benefit from one of those 20 disk releases like pnk floyd does ... i know i would eat up all those alternate takes .. with prince the alternates tend to be far more interesting than with other artists anywaze

This is the second time here someone mentions getting hell from their wife for buying the boxset. I mean seriously? WTF?? eek eek eek I mean if it was a yacht that'd burn a lifetime of savings by the couple for your old days or jeopardizing the kids' capacity to go to the university, OK, IDK, or losing the house in a Las Vegas casino.

But a 150 bucks boxset? WTF?? How is that your wives' (or husbands') problem what you do with your own hard earned money?? eek eek eek Not trolling, genuinely shocked and curious to understand this kind of couple dynamic which is totally foreign to me (and my soon-to-be wife) eek eek eek

Ok, so as this appears to be a serious question... the serious answer is that financially co-dependent relationships are common across the world and discriminating against those who engage in them is extremely bizarre. Many couples operate a shared pot of money either through a joint account or through a looser agreement that both parties contribute equally to shared expenses. In a low income situation, it’s surely easy to understand how dropping a few hundred dollars on what amounts to a personal luxury could impact the ability to pay basic expenses for a month.

This is not about bring pussy whipped. It’s about being a bit selfish in a scenario when you know it will affect others, indirectly. It has all the makings of a dilemma, and people come to these forums to think out loud and seek input and support.

Also, learning from experience is one of life’s greatest gifts. Delighted to hear about you impending wedding. It will change you in all kinds of unexpected ways and I doubt you will find this notion so odd in a few years time.

“Love4oneanother” is what he always said. But (on a good day) I think Prince shared money, too. Esp with loved ones.

Hope this doesn’t sound too patronising. Trying to help.

Congratulations again.

Well, I guess it also has to do with how much disposable income a household has available. For lower income households 150 dollars or euros is still a lot of money.

It also has to do with your spouse's understanding (or lack thereof) of your level of fandom. You have to understand their perspective. If they don't feel the same way about it as you do, then of course they'd have some opinions regarding the "need" to purchase this set...especially with its high price point. Fortunately for me, I have the economic stability to purchase both sets without it being a burdon. But, that doesn't say I didn't catch a little "Hell" about how much it costs. That's because she isn't a "fan" like I am. She doesn't know the level to which I've commited to this artist. Therefor, I completely understand her resistance to support it, initially anyway. She will though later. But last week, not so much...

Thank you for this honest and thorough reply. And thanks also to Funkaholic and ThridStrike for their additions to your explainations. I understand what you guys say of course, I just thought this kind of "all is shared" marriages was much less common nowadays, cos we're more individualistic than previous generationso. I assumed most couples tended to share basic expenses like rent/loan, kids, bills, hilidays, food, but kept their own money separate when it came to everything leisure, and that as long as they paid their share of the basics, the rest was 100% their own business. At least I think that's how most of the couples I know live.

.

But admitedly I often tend to forget that most of the people I hang out with are not really representative of the majority, because I hang out in certain specific social circles. There might also be little cultural differences between our respective countries that explain my perplexity, IDK. As for my better half and me, we chose to live in a way that's really atypical even among atypical people, so we're really far from such preoccupations. But thank you for your wishes and congratulations, we're very happy together and I feel blessed to have met her after years of a very turbulant (and often way too dramatic) love life yes

.

So in the end I'd say that I'm still puzzled, because I'm often puzzled by such things, and deep down there's this very radical hippie/punk part of me that wonders if there isn't something wrong in the models society tend to promote when it comes to relationships (and many other things), but on the other hand as long as people make their own decisions and they're happy with their lifestyle, I guess it's cool and who am I to judge? hug
