I´m surprised that the number of fans complaining about the lack of a SOTT live DVD is so low. Sure, some have complained a little bit but many seem to be happy that we´ll get the New Years Eve at Paisley Park show instead of a proper SOTT show and some even said that it´s basically a SOTT show but I disagree.
Looks like we´ll never get to have a SOTT show on DVD. Too bad for those who were too young to see a real SOTT show and now have to rely on the movie and that Paisley NYE show as a substitute.
Is is because there´s barely any proper SOTT footage in decent enough quality that is good enough for a release ?
Other than that I´m perfectly happy with this set. " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?" |

I'll be getting the vinyl version. Which begets this question. Anyone know of a good modern record player?
I still have all my old vinyl Prince 12's but havent owned a record player in way over 25 years. [Edited 6/27/20 12:51pm] |

Plausible explanation for this in the SDE Michael Howe interview. All the raw footage from European tour is tied up with the rights for the SOTT movie. He made efforts to resolve those longstanding rights issues, but no luck (though it did sound like there was progress). See sticky link for interview. |

Thanks for the info and the tip. I hadn´t considered the legal issues surrounding the SOTT footage.
Will check out that interview. " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?" |

That´s a partly lip-synched concert movie, not a "live DVD". And my NYE Paisley Park version is pretty decent. " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?" |

How do I upload a picture here? I have the perfect turntable for you. My opinion, the perfect starter is the Audio Technica LP60-BT turntable. It runs about $150 and it connects to a speaker via Bluetooth. Very good sound and excellent overall quality...👍🏼 |

What are all you guys gonna go for first in this set - the remastered SOTT, the Vault tracks, or the live stuff? I will probably do SOTT remastered first followed by all the Vault tracks in order just for a fun complete experience
I'll be doing the vault discs first, then the remastered album, then the edits, and finally the live stuff.

That is a huge problem.
Even 1999 super deluxe did fit, as did the PR debacle.
.
More reason for jewel cases.
I agree and cardboard digi packs are hideous - my 1999 boxed set I worry everytime I pull out a CD I will scuff it up trying to take it out and puttting back without damaging the packaging.

I tested the waters to see I would like vinyl with an Audio Technica LP120.
It is a good record player but when I realised I prefer Vinyl I went the full hog and picked up a Technics 1200GR and put a decent cartridge on it (Ortofon Bronze) because it does make a difference.
I would suggest no less than the Audio Technica LP120 as a starter Turntable and update the cartridge on it to a better one that what it comes with if you like the vinyl sound - that will make it much better. Also you will not need an amplifier that has Phono in for it as the LP120 comes with a pre-amp built in.
Thank you Prince for every note you left behind 💜 |

I'm all about chronology so to me it makes most sense to start with The Vault discs to experience what was filtered out before listening to the remastered album which was the "final cut". Then the shows in order of performance date. |

I am really just buying the vinyl to support the project and CD's have never been something I liked. But since i will only be streaming the music, i think i will just keep the vinyl package unopened as a kind if collectable/decor.

What I say I’m going to do…
I’ll wait for the set to arrive, lock myself in a quite room, pour a drink, dim the lights, unseal the records, start from LP1 and may my way through the set in sequence.
What I’m actually going to do…
Unzip the file that we’re all blatantly going to have before the mail man arrives, hunch over my PC, put my headphones on, yell at my wife and children to keep the noise down, click on Rebirth of the Flesh, 30 seconds in I’ll skip to 4:30 to hear the outro, then check Crucial, then Large Room With No Lights, then Wally, then skip through all the rest of the vault tracks.
After that I’ll listen to the first track of the remastered album, at that point I'll stop to compare it to the original CD, then the Japanese pressing, then all the fan made remasters and vinyl rips I have. Try to convince myself this is the best sounding version whether it is or isn’t. Then I’ll probably go on to load each track up in Spek to make sure we’ve not been fobbed off with anything bootleg or MP3 sourced. If I do find anything I’ll likely be straight on here to have a damn good whinge about it. Then in a month or two’s time when I’m feeling bored I might actually unseal the set and see what the DVD is like.
… I’m the worst Prince fan ever aren’t I?
