What are all you guys gonna go for first in this set - the remastered SOTT, the Vault tracks, or the live stuff? I will probably do SOTT remastered first followed by all the Vault tracks in order just for a fun complete experience

I will do like I usually do and listen to the CDs in the order they come as so the SOTT album will by heard first.

Reading the interview by Michael Howe now has me thinking: is there truly another early version of ICNTTPOYM from 1982? Or was it only recorded in May 1979 for it to be revisited by Prince in 1986?

Sounds like there isn't a 1982 version which I think is why he said they initially thought it was from a bit later. I reckon it sounds close to the 81-82 rockabilly stuff.

Yes - same here! Although I might skip the shortened edits (Shockadelica for example) in favor of the longer full version on that disk

The remastered album is probably never going to leave the box, except maybe to look at it. Well, I might give it a listen just to hear how it sounds, nut my original LP sounds fine. All I want is the outtakes and the live shows.

I’m going to take the day off so I will probably start with the remastered album , but temptation might get the better of me and go to the vault tracks first!

Hmm...

From what I read this set looks like an upgrade when comapred to the previous 'Super Deluxe' releases.

Of course still no jewel cases, though.

Preordered.

I am a bit of an audiophile, so most likely I will first start comparing the remaster with the original CD before listening to all the vault tracks.

I got a copy of The Work pt. II about 10-15 years ago, but after one quick skip through the material I decided to wait for official vault releases, so I could listen in better sound quality. So glad I resisted temptation back then, because now with all these SDE sets coming out almost all of the vault songs are new to me. And now I can get to learn to know them in the highest possible fidelity. cool

RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...

This is another really exciting release, but I can't help being a little pissed off that they're changing the size and shape of the box. Purple Rain, 1999, Sign o' the Times... I just wish I could stick them together on a shelf. Consistent super deluxe releases would have been awesome. I'm wondering if the cover of Sign o the Times will have some sort of lenticular design where that image of Prince disappears.

I took my time getting 1999 Super Deluxe and it turned out to be a pain in the butt so I've jumped on the Deep Discount deal. A friend has told me he's had issues with them before so it's a bit of a worry, but it's AU$209 versus the AU$320 being charged on JB Hi-Fi. Worth giving it a go. My only issue so far is getting any emails from them. When I signed up, I didn't get a verification email. So I ordered without an account and didn't get an order verification email either (got a paypal email confirmation though).

Yes I just saw $320 for the CD boxes set on JB too - and nearly dropped dead - what the heck? For CDs???????? I am terrified to think what the vinyls will be.

Thank you Prince for every note you left behind 💜

With jewel cases, it would have been more expensive & massive. I don't like much digipack, reason why I bought the Japanese version of Rave.

And JB Hi-Fi was the cheapest place to get 1999 Super Deluxe. I got it for AU$135 where Sanity and amazon sell it for AU$150. I can't imagine what those guys are going to charge for this one.

I think I saw the vinyl set in Australia was somewhere near AU$700.

I could not get the 1999 CD set from JB or Sanity as they sold out and got none extra but found one at Rocking Horse Records in Brisbane for $135 at the time. Just saw the price for the Vinyl of SOTT on Warners Australia - $770 !!!!!!!

So if I want to buy the Vinyl & CD as I normally do, that is over 1k !!!!

This is dreadful - Estate is making this for the elite rich I think? Most people cannot find that sort of money particulary with Covid 19 and many of us on less working hours.

Can't pre-order right now for sure either, as Australian stores like JB & Sanity take payment upfront.

Guess shall have to hope for realistic price drops?

Forums are lighting up everywhere about the crazy asking price for these sets.

Jewel cases I can replace.

The cardboard stuff I cannot, except buying the whole set again. (needs availability)

.

OTOH: 12-inch hardback-boek van 120 pagina's means Duane Tudahl can relearn what a proper book looks like. (no el cheapo paperback stuff for items like these please)

.

But WTF: o Brandneue Liner-Notes von Daphne Brooks, Professorin für Afrikanisch-Amerikanische Wissenschaften am William R. Kenan, Jr. Trust, Theaterwissenschaften, Amerikanistik sowie Frauen-, Gender- und Sexualitätswissenschaft an der Yale University.

.

Why would we need that type of stuff in there?

Did I forget to mention that this will not fit `easily` on my CD-shelves?

That is a huge problem.

Even 1999 super deluxe did fit, as did the PR debacle.

.

More reason for jewel cases.

As poster on FB :
I start to see a major flaw in these releases. For me Prince is one of the best Live artist I ever experienced. I really would like the Estate to open up the ease of accessing those live recordings. Now they get hidden in the major bulk or as incentive for buying this major release.
For me the Studio and outtakes would be one package and the live could be another (With rehearsal, Show and aftershow as a seperate release). Prince would warrant this kind of tribute I guess.
What do you think?

Since I ordered through DeepDiscount, I'll probably be waiting a bit for it, so I'll probably pick and choose some of the outtakes I've been really waiting on using Apple Music on release, and then once the vinyl set shows up, I'll just start with the album and work my way through.

now i know what this is all about. now i know exactly what i am.

Other ways of looking at the 'form factor' that 'they' chose for this release:

- Lack of cohesion, lack of understanding is shown by choosing a 12" form factor for this release; this is not a release like when Prince was still alive, this is the product of the project that 'the Estate' are doing. Why can't they make the sets adhere to a certain set of common ways of doing things? (AKA 'house style') Sizes of boxes, ways of spreading tracks over an amount of discs, letter size, booklet thickness, colour schemes, photo sizing, etc, etc, etc, etc it is all 'invented' anew with each release? If not: why this form factor?

- Why did they think that we all have enough vinyl around to store this SOTT Super Deluxe with the vinyl instead of putting the CD's with the CD's? Jewel cases are the norm when it comes to form factor and they totally ignore that. I could understand that if these were mostly video discs as these go with my LD's and such, but not this time.

.

This means that b00tleggars can indeed package stuff better, nicer, etc.
