I wish he had allowed himself to look back/reflect more during his life and to celebrate these classics with releases like this.
Regardless, I'm just glad it's happening now.
Prince(r.i.p.) knew that his muziq would be heard when he was long gone. That's what he wanted. I met a dancer that worked for him. She said he wanted an album released a year for 21 years after he was gone.
Well according to you on LSA, you know pretty much everyone who was ever even tangentially connected to Prince. I bet you have more insider info than Neversin! |

The listing has been taken down because it was premature. It will hopefully be put back up again soon (after the official announcement).

So guys...how will this release fair with an average score with combined reviews? I think we will never see the likes of this kind of packaging and glowing reviews in a long time. I'm talking 6/5 or 11/10 scores, no joke. |

I am with you. I guarantee even if they included repetitious tracks that make the CB or DF configurations abailable 100% you would still have people complaining about how Girl O' My Dreams isn't there, or how they didn't include this one obscure very specific confirguration that had a 30 edit on __
Ultimately I feel like if people focus on what we are getting as opposed to what obscure edit or version isn't on the album, we will all see how amazing this release is gonna be
Exactly!! Listen, for YEARS I've heard the same damn snippet of "Cosmic Day". In 90 days, I'll get to hear not only the rest of that damn song, but I'll get to hear it in crystal clear sound quality. Not to mention "Adonis & Bathsheba", which is one of my all-time favorite tracks. Then "Rebirth of the Flesh", "Cocoa Boys", etc. Fuck the pizza!!! This could be a damn SALAD and I'd still ove the shit out of it...
There might be great songs over the discs. But it's going to come off as an uneven compilation, just like Purple Rain and 1999 deluxe compilations before it. Songs that don't flow into next track, great songs preceding/following mediocre songs, songs that sound-wise don't belong on the same 'compilation'. There was a unique vibe to every P album but all songs managed to go together, near enough
What's wrong with posthumous P albums per se, as opposed to deluxe editions? They won't grab you with any familiarity like 'oh yeah that'.

Why is "Four" listed? They did "Now's the Time" at that point in the show... did they take "Four" from the Madhouse set and mix in in place of "now's the time"? "Keep on shilling for Big Pharm!" |

- The 3 CDs of outtakes sound fine to me. The most blatant omission is the Dream Factory Musical suite (Can't Stop, Data Bank, We Can Funk, Girl O' My Dreams), but admitedly they couldn't include everything anyway, and that leaves material for future releases.
.
- As pointed by others, it won't be totally possible for us to recreate any DF, Camille or CB config with the material included there. I think it's better that way because, as suggested by someone, those early album configurations would make perfect RSD releases. Prince left many work in progress configurations behind him, and if the estate was to release one or 2 each year for RSD, this would make many a fan happy. Hopefully they'll consider it. Then, sequencing (including the length of silence between tracks) could be respected and we'd get exactly what Prince tried.
Can't Stop, Data Bank, We Can Funk, and Girl O' My Dreams were recorded for The Dawn, so perhaps there's something planned for that? I know When The Dawn of the Morning Comes, Crucial, and Cocoa Boys are also part of that project, but IDK what else would be the reasoning.
.
As for DF and Camille: We can create Camille with this release of Rebirth and we can create the July 18 1986 configuration of DF. What's missing?? You'd probably have to do a few edits if you're a legit completist: clipping the first second of Last Heart, the crowd noise on Movie Star, the alarm from Starfish. I guess you mean the longer ICNTTPOYM? Aside from that and the intro of Joy in Repetition, this fills in all the gaps of all three albums.
For Crystal Ball you also would need to re-create the segue between Rebirth of The Flesh and Play In The Sunshine (with machine gun like sounds after "Come To The Crystal Ball"). This version of PITS is circulating but may not get a remaster... and also you'd need the segue from The Ball into Joy In Repetition (not the long intro version). Also not sure what version of Crystal Ball should've been on the album (Dream Factory used a pre-Clare Fischer strings version). |

What I meant is we can't use the material as is, you'd need to get things from different sources with varous sound quality and do some serious tinkering, whic in the end means getting nothing better than what's already circulating.
This said, genuine copies of Camille and DF3 are doing the rounds in certain circles (copies of DF1 and DF2 may also exist but I'm not aware of this), so fakes will easily be spotted |

What are everyone's thoughts on what the preview single will be to accompany the official press realease? They ususally release one song at press release.
My pick is either EMOTIONAL PUMP or EVERYBODY WANT WHAT THEY DON'T GOT.
Both are very commerical and poppy or funky sounding tracks that would make a good first impression on new listeners. I think EMOTIONAL PUMP would be the smartest choice personally. Thoughts?
I agree Emotional Pump is a quality track that has that great funk pop vibe. My own choice would be Cosmic Day as I've longed to hear the full version. I think they might go with a live track or Power Fantastic. Can I Play with u might also get the attention of Miles and Jazz fans.
I don't get why they include a live studio version of Power Fantastic instead of the studio version. |

It strikes me that Nevaeh Ni Ecalp A into A Large Room with No Light is going to be strange sequencing.
There is more to that song than the general populace knows. It's way longer (by about 100%) than the existing version. I don't think we'll see a transition here like the fanmade transition into DF.
AFAIK the genuine circulating tape of DF has a Nevaeh Ni Ecalp A into A Large Room that's similar to the fan reconstruction. I'm curious: where did you get your info? |

I think it's probably just the alternate vocals take DJed by Questlove, it was either that or the longer edit of the B-Sides version we have on boots. Technically, what you call the "studio" version is what they call "live in the studio" since it was recorded that way. |

My understanding is that the song was recorded live in one take at Prince's home studio (including the long intro), so maybe that's why they labeled the track as such. |

I actually like is best this way, although I am not a person who is into the whole "configurations" thing like many Prince fans sometimes can be
For me I see it as not neccesarily intended for any flow, but rather a fairly comprehensive chronological compilation of vault tracks from that era that haven't made it out on other releases. It is nice to have there - to me that chronology tells the story rather than an album flow |
