Hopefully Sony will re-release Crystal Ball in the not too distant future. There seems to be a general consensus that their Legacy releases have improved sound, so there is some hope at least that these songs will finally be available without the brickwalling.

I think you are right, but its kind of funny that we are looking forward to a re-release turing DOWN the volume. lol

Really excited about this release but i have no use for CD's. I feel like like i have to purchase this and may just purchase if it's released on vinyl. I never listen to vinyl either, but at least it will be nice to look at whenever it's streaming.

Great songs athe three of them.

I like each of them to varying degrees, but I'm not head-over-heels in love with them as many seem to be. I'm hoping this set will help me finally get them.

Ok get it, I'm in love eith them specially In A Large and All My Dreams.

That article seems to be heavily implying that Wally will be on the set:

Google -translated quote:

While wondering if this version x
x - x x x x x x x x x x x of " x x x x x "will have the same emotional charge as that described by x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x

My guess is the missing words are "re-recorded", "Wally" and "Susan Rogers".

This is probably not worth posting, but I've chosen to dive down this rabbit hole and see if the number of heart emojis and their spacing can tell us anything. I agree that "Wally" seems a sure candidate for the text you mention here.

In the previous paragraph, there are a number of redacted words, presumably song titles. I've gone through a list of recordings by Prince in late 1985 and all of 1986 to try to match the character lengths. Here are my best guesses:

"♥♥♥♥♥ ♥♥♥♥": "Funny Love" or "Movie Star". Or could it be "Coco(a) Boys"?
"♥♥♥♥♥♥ ♥♥♥": "Cosmic Day" is the only one that fits.
"♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ♥♥ ♥♥♥♥♥": "Walkin' in Glory" is the only one that fits.
"♥ ♥♥♥♥ ♥ ♥♥♥" given in due time to ♥♥♥♥♥♥ ♥♥♥♥♥: I'm lost here. The implication is that this was given to another artist. I can find neither a song nor an artist that matches the number of characters. The only thing that is remotely possible, but unlikely due to spacing and spelling, could be "Telepathy" given to Debora(h) Allen.

There are a few other heart emojis that aren't surrounded by quotes, but I don't know if these are song titles or not. Looking at the number of hearts does not align with any songs I have considered.

Again, probably not worth posting, but we'll see.

first off thank you for doing this because i started to try and figure out the spaces this morning but it gave me a headache pretty quickly so i gave up after two tracks, haha!

secondly... i believe that the one that fits the last one you mentioned is "I Need A Man given in due time to Bonnie Raitt.

Hey, wait a minute! "♥ ♥♥♥♥ ♥ ♥♥♥" given in due time to ♥♥♥♥♥♥ ♥♥♥♥♥ could totally be "I Need a Man" given to Bonnie Raitt, perhaps?

I'm excited to hear it because I've never been in to this track. There's always been something sonically unpleasant to my ears with the bootleg versions. Definitely looking forward to a sonically superior version, assuming the 'reveal' is legit.

I'm in the same boat. I hope this set makes me appreciate long-loved outtakes such as "In a Large Room With No Light", "All My Dreams", and "Rebirth of the Flesh" more than I do.

I recently made a playlist of my top 20 favorite Prince songs and "In a Large Room With No Light" came in at number five. So add me to the list of people buying this Super Deluxe set for a pristine version of that track if nothing else.

siim

so there might be all four tracks that were offered to Bonnie Riatt, if "I Need a Man" will be released as well.

Are they've circulating?
Is Prince singing them?
I've only heard "Jealous Girl", and I guess the earlier version. It has Prince on vox and it's a boring song. Might the other three be better...
It's sad that the section I'm not familiar with might be kind a dull smile

Though, okey, there's other tracks I dont recall I havent heard: Blanche, Love and Sex 1986, And That Says What, Everybody Want..., It Be's Like That Sometimes.
I tend to forget names of the bootleg tracks I dont care much about. Have those been circulating?
And Soul Psychodelicide 12 minute studio version?

I am not exaggerating when I say the only reason why I am getting the deluxe is because of this song in better quality.

Me too !!!

-

It must be one of the best tracks Prince has ever written.

It bursts with joy and has a very atypical Prince rhythm and sound.

The vocal performances towards the end are stunning, give me goosebumps every time.

-

And these the fast and very clever written chorus lyrics :

"Did U ever feel that life was like lookin' 4 a penny
In a large room with no light?

(...mind that only the last two words change tone each time)
A sophisticated man reduced 2 company in no-win situations
That aren't right"

And the wild Sheila influenced drumparts... (I suppose), with that unmistaken latin feel.

-

I often think of this track as a non-Prince track.

He must've stolen it. wink

Although it is a Prince & The Revolution track

with Sheila E. plus a few members of her band at the time.

As far as the info is known, they all played on it.

It also sound very live recorded.

There are not that many unPrincy songs like this one.

Just a thought. I watched Under The Cherry Moon last night and it got me thinking. Remember the sequence where there is an instrumental rendition of It's A Wonderful Day, but the arrangement played around with. I was wondering if any of that material was included in the 12" mix?

Would the Estate ever find those tapes and have a 'slot'

Chappers72

This is my first post yay biggrin
Been a fan since 90 but obsessed since AOA. The drag for me is the bottomless pit potential.
I originally found SOTT difficult to listen to, I know that's blasphemy...but true, it was only after I actually listened that I realised that this is my fave album...closely followed by the original Come config.
And on this album, I still see its gonna be a beautiful night as an outlier...its the last song that I warmed to. Still not convinced this is the right album for it but hey...its awesome.
Cannot wait for this SDE. Will cheer up a year that needs some cheer. In between Neil young is giving us Homegrown..
Question for the group...are there albums of unknown prince songs in the vault? I follow all the BFTP and work it stuff but wondered if there are still surprises for long term collectors?

Hope my first post is not too long, I love reading this forum. Even the disagreements are hilarious
Cheers
Paul

I could still be on the set...but the fact that some title place keepers seem to match to other songs not listed but from this time period...

But YES it should be On this Set. Maybe it was kept for an Orginals? I just hope when it is released it is FULL lenght! They could also do somehing odd a put it on a Parade SD?

But it is worthy of release! In fact is should be a single... as he said "12" think it aint?"

this would be a good fit on a next volume of Originals. but imo the next Originals should
also be at least 2 discs nod all the Mavis songs need to be on there and so many more.

I'm sure Michael Howe mentioned a probable follow up in an interview.

The first one was widely well received and performed reasonably well commercially so another volume would make sense.

Therefore tracks like 101, Come Home etc could be left off with those releases in my mind. Maybe Jerk Out is on volume 2 hence it's no show on 1999 deluxe.
