Yet To Own Prince Albums

With the Legacy release of One Nite Alone coming up, I realized there are still a couple of releases I don't own. I'm not delving into singles, DVDs, or digital-only releases (like Xpectation, C-Note, Slaughterhouse, Chocolate Invasion, etc) per se.

For me not yet owned:

Goldnigga

Kamasutra (nor the 5-disk version of Crystal Ball)

One Nite Alone

One Nite Alone Live

N.E.W.S.

Ultimate Rave (Legacy - won't buy, have it all)

The Versace Experience: Prelude 2 Gold (Legacy - may buy eventually)

Oddly, I never purchased Musicology until a couple of years ago. Somehow I ended up with two copies; one the retail release, one the one given out w/ a concert ticket.

I'll probably buy the Legacy release of ONA, although then I'd have 2 copies of the damn Aladdin DVD. Meh, at least I'll have the album.

Are there any Prince albums you just never purchased? Will you ever buy them?

Personally, I can't se it being anything other than what we already have. If it is anything more then I will definitely buy it.

Why do you wonder about something you already know the answer to? Why put these ridiculous hopes out there? Have Sony at any point released anything that was different from what was released before? Was the Rave DVD different? Of course not. Is there anything in their communication that suggests they'll put out a previously unreleased version of the Aladdin DVD? Of course not.

You just never know........ but then again I can only assume it will be the 'same' butchered DVD that you and I already have.

It'll be the shit show that was already released, for sure. If it was anything else, they'd likely advertise it to death. Same with the pending PR Tour stream, etc. (Sidenote: the original broadcast is on YT)

I can't stand the Aladdin DVD because of the butchering, the preaching, the almost "can't hear anything" vamps (eg: "Whole Lotta Love"). His TRC era is just foreign to me and I've no time for it w/ that video.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

I have all the official studio and live albums on CD. Minus the digital-only releases of course.

The Versace Experience I have on cassette. As a cheap promo piece for The Gold Experience, I think it fits better in that format and I have no desire to get it on CD or vinyl.

However, there are some "Prince" albums released by other artists that I never bought:

Goldnigga - The New Power Generation

Come 2 My House - Chaka Khan

GCS2000 - Graham Central Station

Milk & Honey - Támar Davis

Judith Hill - Back in Time

Goldnigga (original 16-track edition) and Milk & Honey are way too expensive. The Judith Hill, Chaka Khan and Graham Central Station albums I'll buy at some point.

From Princevault: "Some copies were sold in Japan, so the cover and full credits are known, but the album did not receive an official release."

These are official copies, just not officially released copies.

Come 2 My House is a nice record. Chaka was definitely more in charge on her record than Graham was on his, IMO.

But I thought I learned from your multiple citation-sprees were that Sony does not even have the rights to put out unreleased footage/unreleased anythings? Like I thought the contracts/press release-type stuff I have seen you post says they legally only have the right to release what was already released with no new content?

On your list, the only one I have is Goldnigga. The original version with Guess Who's Knocking. It's a nice collecties item. Another one I don't have is HitnRun 1. And no, I don't think I will ever buy any of them unless I can get them cheap. There was a thread about "your Prince low point" and the 1999-2004 period surely was a low point for me.

Since it was never released at retail, that is all that exists. Until Legacy rereleases it that is.
Fingers crossed for the unreleased Deluxe Edition.

Indigo Nights – I was a fan prior to 2008, but my taste in music changed for a time so I wasn’t really bothered about this when it came out. I’ve listened to it and I don’t think I’m missing much.

PlectrumElectrum – I listened to this album once and it actually pissed me off. I remember there being one track that I thought was OK, but I hated the rest. I’m not crazy about 3rdEyeGirl on the whole.

Hit n Run Phase One & Two – I thought Phase One was weak and Phase Two is annoying. I bought the ‘Extra Lovable’ download single before these albums came out and did the same recently for ‘Fall In Love Tonight’, which are the only two songs that left a possitive impression on me.

Anthology: 1995-2010 – I bought one song out of curiosity, just to compare the mastering to the original (I wanted to see how brick walled the Crystal Ball tracks were), but I wasn’t missing any tracks on it. Plus the song selection is a bit weird.

Piano & A Microphone 1983 – Refused to buy this on principle.

His Majesty's Pop Life – Unfortunately I don’t own a turn table at the moment. Maybe when the CD comes out.

The Versace Experience (Prelude 2 Gold) – Same as P&AM’83. This may actually be a worse offender. Selling what was originally a free sample in fancy packaging and not even using a master tape as a source. It’s ripped straight from a cassette. This is an awful release.

You just never know........ but then again I can only assume it will be the 'same' butchered DVD that you and I already have.

Totally possible, the Syracuse Purple Rain DVD is different than the broadcast.

Compare the original broadcast to the 2017 DVD and you will notice.

IIRC, the original VHS & LD releases were alternate versions from the broadcast. The deluxe DVD is the same as those releases. No?

I never bought 4Ever, the Very best of Prince or Anthology as I had they were not necessary and compiled material available elsewhere.

The copies of the cancelled Tamar Album that found their way into collectors hands belong in a special category with the Undertaker Cd of "cancelled but legit copies snuck out found their way into collectors hands."

Most(all?) of the Tamar Cd was streamed from Tamar`s facebook page after the Album was shelved so you could argue it was released I guess wink
