In the album's liner notes, the lyrics of each song are associated with one of the characters in the film: "The Future" and "Scandalous" are credited to Batman.

Batman wrote Scandalous, possibly about Vicki Vale. Prince was just the producer/arranger/performer.

In all honesty, we have confirmation that at least two Batman songs "Vicki Waiting" and "Lemon Crush" were repurposed Anna Fantastic songs, so... maybe her? Shoot her a tweet.

^^^^ Yes, it was most likely written for Anna Garcia. Prince had written and recorded the first version in October 1988 - long before he met Kim Basinger or was hired to do music for the film. He had been pursuing Anna G through that year.

*

Anna G. confirmed this during a 1990 interview. She was 17 yrs old (turned 18 on Dec 31st 1988), so Prince was "sleeping" with her, but not having sex with her. Both the song Scandalous and "Anna Waiting" were tied to her being under age and also him "waiting" until she turned 18 to have sex with her.

*

She stated Prince flew her to PP on her birthday, had a cake waiting for her, gave her the pink cashmere coat as a gift, and then they had sex that night.

*

Later, after Anna G. was back in London, and Prince had moved on to Kim Basinger and the Batman project, he changed "Anna Waiting" to Vicki Waiting for the Batman record, and also released Scandalous during his fling with Kim B. I guess the meaning changed to his secret "Hollywood" affair with her instead of dating an underage girl biggrin

Again....Prince wrote Anna Waiting BEFORE - long before he met Kim Basinger and began working on the Batman music. He changed the title to Vicki Waiting and also some of the lyrics to FIT the Batman album. Per Anna Garcia, he called her to ask her if she minded that he used it for Batman. Her statement, so who knows if he really did call her to ask if she minded.

*

Same with Scandalous. He wrote and recorded that song in 1988 - several months before he even decided to do the film.

*

Princevault.com:

*

Vicki Waiting is the fifth track on Prince's eleventh album Batman (the motion picture soundtrack to the Tim Burton movie Batman). A different version, possibly an instrumental remix, is heard in the background during a scene in Batman. In 2001, a 1995 live version was released as part of NPG Music Club Edition # 2. In 2005, the same live version was included on the Live From Paisley Park download EP.

Although specific recording dates are not known, the track was a reworked version of the track Anna Waiting, for which basic tracking took place in December 1988 at Paisley Park Studios in Chanhassen, Minnesota (at around the same time Prince was approached about writing songs for the Batman movie). The song was written for Anna Garcia, and was given to her upon her arrival at Paisley Park on which she says was her eighteenth birthday, 31 December 1988, (although it seems more likely she in fact turned 19 on that day) along with a pink cashmere coat (the song Pink Cashmere had been recorded six months previously). Prince asked Anna Garcia for permission to change the lyrics for use in the Batman movie to fit the lead female character Vicki Vale, and the title and other lyrics were changed in early 1989, although specific dates are not known.

What were his actual Kim Basinger songs is now my question? Now we'd be in Graffiti Bridge era, but that was all (well mostly) Best Of The Vault thus far, as we now know.... Is she the reason for his 1990 writer's block?

Never confirmed, but I think the unreleased I Wonder may have been written about her based on the lyrics, and how it's been reported she abruptly left MN and went back to LA.

*

"A southern gust of wind came and took my girl away from me. Now my tears could fill an ocean, my tears could fill the sea..."

*

It was reported that some members of her family flew to MN to pick her up and take her back to CA when Prince was not there. She left a bunch of her personal items behind. I believe it was Carmen E who said when she arrived at PP and was taken to the apartment bathroom to change there was women's makeup all over the sink counter. The PP employee said, "oh that belonged to Kim B. We'll get all of that cleared out for you."

*

I believe Acknowledge Me may have been written about her as well. During his May 1994 show in Monaco he stated " much props to the woman wiho, she knows who she is, she shouldn't have gotten married." Kim B married Alec Baldwin August 1993. He played Acknowlege Me, and then before going into the song Dark he said "she won't acknowledge me, she just left me in the dark."

*

I'm sure there are others too. Their affair was apparently quite intense. I'm sure the PP walls were rockin' sexy horny

Yes, it was said at PP back in gthose days, there was always a very strong aura of SEX.

Good investigating, WD. And apparently Alec Baldwin hated Prince.

Once you were Prince's girl, you always kinda belonged to him. No matter where life took both of you. Hence, his hookup with Carmen E a few times way later on.

Come
Closer
Feel what you've been dyin' for
Don't be afraid, baby
Touch it and explode
Understand, understand that I love you
Oh, but more than that, I want you
Everybody always told me
"Good things come to those who wait"
But I've got so much on the menu
I just can't, I just can't, I can't wait baby
I can't wait baby
I can wrap my legs all around you girl
'Cause sugar, you know you're just the kind of lover
That I've been looking for
Tonight why don't we skip all the for play, mama
And just get down here on the floor

Scandalous
I'm talkin' about you and me
Marvelous
Baby, baby, can't you see
Anything you've ever dreamed of

Tonight it's gonna be scandalous
'Cause tonight I'm gonna be your fantasy

Steve Martin was the host that night. By 2006, Baldwin and Basinger had been divorced for four years.
