Ohh purple joy oh purple bliss oh purple rapture! REAL MUSIC by REAL MUSICIANS - Prince "I kind of wish there was a reason for Prince to make the site crash more" ~~ Ben |

. Watching the Syracuse stream again made me think of a question for anyone who saw the Purple Rain tour in person (I'm presuming this would have been the same every night)... . At the beginning of Let's Go Crazy flowers rain down onto the stage but at the end of 1999 two great big steam jets shoot up from the sides of the stage and what looks like newspapers rain down on the front of the crowd. . Does anyone know exactly what these are? Were they newspapers? If so, were they specially designed with Princely headlines, etc., somewhat similar to the Princely dollar bills that dropped during the Lovesexy tour (IIRC)? Thanks. . .

The Irresitible Bitch/Possessed one-two is still a highlight of this show. Just magnificent.

Thanks to a heads up from a different thread, I downloaded the audio on iTunes and this is a monster of a show to listen to. "Possessed" and "When Doves Cry" are 2 of the hardest live Prince tunes that I've EVER heard...and I've heard some hard ones over the years.

Did anyone read the chat? The band was all on there from what Bobby Z said. "if you can't clap on the one, then don't clap at all"

I have been a Prince fan since 2011. But I never before dared to watch this concert. I thought he had lost steam since he was already on his next project. So I thought 1985 would be an half-assed performance. Boy, did my jaw drop. He did it all here. This most be the pinnacle of a concert by anyone in the 80's? Jams, splits, sex, dance, guitar, that falsetto (!). If you just look at it as a spectacle. This show had it all. And ending it with that Purple Rain version. [Edited 5/16/20 14:08pm]

I find it highly unlikely that they got Bernie to remaster this yet again for this specific release - if that IS the case, it's just yet another dumb decision in a parade of dumb decisions..
Pay Bernie to remaster this AGAIN only a few years after he remastered it the first time.. [Edited 5/16/20 14:41pm] Hard to believe I've been on the org for over 25 years now!

I get all the criticism of it I'm a hardcore fan too, but anything that draws attention to Prince and his talent and music , has to be a good thing. Being on YouTube is a start. It will draw some new/old fans in again. And with there being alot of live stuff now on YouTube,it might just get some people to view other stuff, and draw them in. As we know, once you get hooked on prince, its hard to let go!

Really happy to get it officially released. I'm not a specialist but was it worth 2 get it remastered as I don't hear any real improvement? Not important but weird for the song Yankee Doodle Dandy it states "Live at the Carrier Dome, 1985" & for the other songs "Live in Syracuse, NY, 3/30/85". "Money won't buy U happiness but it'll pay 4 the search."

I agree some of those were Elvis type moves lol, But don't see the need to take a shot at Elvis though, I am new here but have looked in for quite a long time and like reading what other huge Prince fans like me think about the music and everything Prince.

Nice that they released the audio as a live album. It would be cool to get it a physical release at some point too.

What I wish they would release is the original version as first released under the title "Double Live", with a clear separation between part 1 and part 2 (as described here, though I still don't know about the audio fades for sure: https://prince.org/msg/7/420840). I guess they won't ever do it, but it would be the coolest thing, since it's how it was originally made available A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/

Darling Nikki is on a loop in my head for days now. Just like the first time I heard it in 1984. "if you can't clap on the one, then don't clap at all"

- Yeah, but some parts need to be shortened.. Without image some long steady played chords (and they are long sometimes), can be annoying.. -

It's not the Estate's place to posthumously mess with these recordings. Prince is gone now, no one has the authority to "improve" his music. Well, Michael Howe does unfortunately, and has in the past, but just because he can doesn't mean he should. You can make your own edits on Audacity (as long as you don't pollute the internet with them). A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/

. Prince was most definitely an Elvis fan growing up... He also used quite a few Elvis moves and poses throughout his career. Imagine a 10 year old Prince watching the Elvis '68 Comeback Special on television... watch that special and you'll see it. "He's a musician's musician..."

- I understand your point of view. NO ONE should touch Prince's music. But I don't want to be the one bashing Michael Howe for what is post released. It is what it is, not much to do about it. - My point is - and I should've been more clear - that while I made my own 'album' version of that show, I made a listenable/audio-only enjoyable version of it. Without image, for me (imho) some extended parts are sonically not all that interesting without image. Extreme long played 1-chord-parts for example. Well, one could 'imagine' what went on, as we all saw this live show multiple times. But again, It sounds just great and better (to me) without compromising the original. - Prince himself messed around a hundred times with his very very few live released material. But that understandibly was him in all liberty. Although I prefered if he did released some more 'raw' live stuff throughout his career. But he was too busy being his stubborn old self, refuging into his own future. - By the way, I have never polluted the internet with anything Prince, own made, home made, whatever. So many others did though. And never liked that either. But everyone is free to do what they considder 'good' for that matter. It honeslty won't kill anyone. How many absolute horrible raped remixes of Kiss and When doves Cry are out there ? As long as it spreads Prince's music as wide as possible, that's what I think's best tbh. - And for those who 'keep' owned unreleased (stolen) music for themselves, that no one has ever heard yet, should be punished the hard way... obliged to listen to MC Hammer only for the rest of their lives in jail full of mentals. lol - Peave though. - [Edited 5/26/20 21:47pm] "The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves. I feel ya. Let us just say that my approach, which clearly isn't the Estate's so far, is that in a perfect world, the Estate's job, besides generating income, should be to preserve and make available a legacy for the sake of historicity, not try and create listeners-friendly entertainment products. Hell, the cassette mixdowns that were used for reconstruction on Originals and 1999 Deluxe dshould have been released too, for reference. Now I realize how goal 1 (generating income) can contradict goal 2 (preserving a legacy), but it's still good to be vocal about things one cares about. Once the material is released as is, fans are free to recompose and recompile it as they see fit for their personal use, since nowadays technology allows everyone to alter and edit tracks, but if the material is altered, what is lost is lost. Prince, of course, had every right to mess with his own music: the point was that he was carrying his vision. Now the closest thing to his vision is what he left as it is, not to be reinterpreted or raped by the likes of Mr. Howe (I'm still depressed by the Originals fiasco, what it could have been vs what it is, the absolute lack of logic behind what was done, as explained by Mr. Bolas himself when he spoke to the Peach and Black Podcast). In an ideal world, the vault should be in the hands of a museum or a musicology university, made available by curators whose only preoccupation would be research and preservation, not labels executives and banks aiming at pleasing the audience in order to make a quick buck... . I certainly never accused you of polluting the internet (as you say, other have). . As for those who do not share their stuff, everyone has their reasons. Some good, some bad.
