Prince YouTube to host streaming of Syracuse 85' concert - Starting May 14 - 3 Nights

"The Prince Estate, in partnership with YouTube, will host a three-day streaming event of Prince and the Revolution: Live, a historic concert captured at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse, NY on March 30, 1985. Prince and the Revolution: Live showcases Prince and his iconic band at the peak of their Purple Rain Tour, and was the first live concert footage that Prince officially released as both a television broadcast and home video. The audio from the concert has been remastered by longtime Prince mastering engineer Bernie Grundman, and will be available officially in digital format for the first time across all streaming and download partners on Friday, 15 May.

That's cool.

I know alot of long time fans won't be excited about this but it's really good that the Estate is leveraging what they have to get press and new people on board.

Plus, we'll get a remastered audio version at the same time, so I'm excited....even as a LONG time fan. smile

What a missed opportunity to raise some much needed funds. The estate blows it once again. Who the funk is in charge these days?

Even though I have an audio rip bootleg of this show and STILL have the VHS of this smile and I also have the DVD attached to the Purple Rain reissue, I would still hope they do a seperate physical audio release of this since it's been remastered. But this is fun to know they are doing this.

The remastered audio is already available on the 'Purple Rain' deluxe set. Literally nothing new here at all.

If they were not sitting on literally hundreds of professionally filmed unreleased concerts in the vault, many of which are sufficently hits heavy for a commercial audience, there would be no issue. But as they are, I consider this release quite lazy and careless. And continually focusing the general public on solely one period of Prince's career is only damaging to his legacy in the long run.

^Available on the DVD, but not in an easily accessible audio-only option. Obviously we’d all like something truly new, but this is a nice gesture.

Prince fandom is so boring these days.

You guys, this Revoltion show is a classic. For me personally I would say that seeing this when I was 14 is THE thing that made me a lifelong Prince obsessive. It's also the thing that made me start writing songs, and led to me becoming a musician. Most haven't seen this show or know that it exists. It is EXCITING that they are going to broadcast this around the world AGAIN. Imagine never having seen this? Imagine how many minds are gonna be blown. They should broadcast this every year like The Wizard of Oz. It's extremely important history. Quit yr bitch'n.

I would have rather got the Atlanta show.

I'm not mad at this any more than I'm mad at them putting up any other free content that I can watch or not watch, but they mention the cleaned up audio, instead of cleaned up picture, so I fully expect they just paired it with the DVD at best. I don't think it's just low hanging fruit, the collection must not be in good shape or as expansive as we thought.

I applaud the intention - raising money for charitable causes - but, as usual, the execution is somewhat lacking.

.

It's almost like The Estate doesn't realise how easy it would be to prise money out of Prince fans' hands with just the tiniest bit more effort.

We know they've shown other shows at various Paisley Park parties though, so there is other stuff sitting there ready to go.

Ditto on that Omni/Atlanta show (unless poster was speaking about his last shows...then, no ditto razz). I will watch, and appreciate, a remaster of the Syracuse gig, but damn that version of Baby, I'm a Star sets the Atlanta 85 show apart.

If I remember right, they used the original Production master tape for this transfer. It's just as good as it's going to get picture quality wise since it was video taped. Not film.

Really don’t see the point in this at all, and with a vault bursting at the seams with footage we’ve never seen before it seems like a wasted opportunity.

The people involved with all aspects of the estate are experiencing this pandemic too. Perhaps, bringing a vault performace to youtube right now is not only difficult but also non essential work. Can't we just appreciate the gesture made and enjoy this show together whilst apart?

I'm wondering if they chose this show instead of something previously unreleased because Eye Records would have it pressed up, packaged, and for sale before the weekend is over lol

I have had this and been able to watch this any time I've wanted to, for freaking years. With that being said, my timelines on the various social media platforms have been blowing up today by friends of mine being EXCITED about being able to watch and enjoy this with me. I'm not even going to try to understand it, all I know is PRINCE has just been showing out lately, as far as I'm concerned.

I even got one of these as a Mother's Day gift. touched

I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.
