It was a complete letdown for me, just glorified karaoke. At least Bruno had more charisma whenever he pulled that shit a few years ago. The worst part for me is how Sheila E was relegated to the background, and Twigs didn't even sing anything. Her dancing was great, but she got about 30 seconds of spotlight out of the whole five minutes of Usher mugging for the camera.
wasn't Sheila the musical director? She probably put herself in that spot. |

Instead of complaining about it, just be happy that he is still being remembered.
Not many artists get Grammy Tributes almost 4 years after they've passed.... |

Maybe they could have had her and Manica walk across the stage throwing flowers to the audience or holding up cards like during the Madhouse set

There were a lot of sound issues with the band at the beginning. Usher turned around and looked like is the band even here? They never really got the levels right, seemed disjointed, maybe it sounded better in the room.
No one can really do Prince - still nice to see a tribute to him on the 2020 Grammys. And more coming in April. "if you can't clap on the one, then don't clap at all" |

What was the point of it? Just a promo for the tribute coming in April?

Because Prince is the greatest of all.
Like I said earlier, how many other artists are still getting Grammy tributes 4 years after their deaths?
Tyka was there too.

Sheila was doing some weird movement behind the drums. I'm glad whenever Prince gets some love but this was meh.

I like it totally unexpected and Usher was feelin it and it showed Sheila looked stiff but sounded great FKA Twigs at first thought it was Misty Copeland The greatest live performer of our times was is and always will be Prince.

It’s the Grammys way of saying, “We’re sorry we let the dude who rips P’s sound off play dress-up in 2017”. "Like the drummer said, you got to die." |

Why do you need a point? What is the problem with Usher doing a Prince tribute? What do you mean just a promo? Strange.

I thought the Usher and Sheila E tribute was a bit contrived. Usher was the wrong choice to lead that segment. |

I guess it did leave a positive impact. TVBOP is Top 40 on iTunes US. |

I mean a promo for the Grammy tribute concert. Sheila E is basically musical director for that and she was on stage last night.

I’m glad Usher and Sheila did it...but why they gotta do it again tomorrow? "You know, this is funky but I wish he'd play like he used to, old scragglyhead son of a...*smack* OOH!"

Weird that FKA Twigs didn't sing, wasn't even asked, and instead just danced on a pole?? Weird that so much emphasis was put on the dancers in general. At one point two men came out and I thought, it's a gay riff on Diamond and Pearl!! Bless Usher's heart, he worked so hard to simulate what Prince did effortlessly. He's still fine, and it's always good to see him move, but he's cut from a very different cloth.
.
All these limp tributes, with our best artists straining to get close to Prince's memory, just reinforce how incredible he was, and how blessed we are to have experienced him. |

It was pretty much a yawn, what a wasted opportunity. Thinking out loud but I would of brought the house down with Cyndi Lauper doing When You were Mine & ending with Gary Clark doing The Cross but no, we're left watching a generic & uninspired Usher performance? And what was up with the band levels?
Prince would lite the stage on fire, Usher couldn't start kindling. |
