"The real story behind LRC" and other fanfic from Wendy & Lisa. https://www.bbc.com/news/...ai1aH_gHuQ
MODERATORS NOTE: *** ENJOY the article and the talk of the songs, DO NOT, turn this into another 'who did Prince love the most... or whatever thread'*** . On "Sometimes It Snows in April" (a song confirmed to have originated from For You): Wendy: "We were at Sunset Sound in Los Angeles, Prince, me and Lisa, just the three of us, and we were all in quiet moods. I picked up an acoustic and Lisa was playing piano and we just started coming up with a motif, a progression. Prince is very quick with words, so it kind of just happened in a couple of hours. He'd written the whole lyric and sung the whole song. It came very fast." . Why did Prince withdraw from that psychedelic style? Wendy: "Because we were gone. And once we were gone, he turned into a different person. That's the nature of who he was." . On "All My Dreams": Wendy: "I wish Lisa and I could get our hands on All My Dreams and finish it up for him." . On the inception of "Little Red Corvette" (a brand new retelling of the origin): "So I imagine they were making out, or doing whatever, in the back seat and they probably had a wonderful moment of afterglow, which is when he got the seed of the idea... But it's not a red Corvette, it's a pink Mercury!"

Isn’t LRC inspired by Mi-Ling Poole?

Touché! Lately I’ve been skeptical of Lisa & Wendy & some of the narratives & fallacies they pushed out so far.

Wendy: "I wish Lisa and I could get our hands on All My Dreams and finish it up for him." Lisa: "That was such an interesting, fun, crazy day in the studio. When you listen to it, it's like a little movie or something. It had a carnival atmosphere." Wendy: "Do you remember around that time we took him to see Kid Creole and the Coconuts and he fell in love with August Darnell singing through the megaphone? He made [studio engineer] Susan Rogers buy him one for that song." Lisa: "It's so full of imagination. He sings, 'Lisa, I'm going to give you the paintbrush and you're going to paint the side of the train'. What does that mean?! And then I do some crazy piano solo, just pounding around, and we were just like, "Y'arr! This is great! This is just fantastic!'" . All my dreams Lisa, I'm gonna give you the brush and you're gonna paint the side of the train She squeezes tighter as the submarine goes deeper in depth Into the unnavigated territory A smile, ever so slight, appears on his face as she starts to cry Until they come, together, slowly They wish for somethin', as if they could see a parallel future in the sea They do not speak They only stare out the moment in time Marry me today and tonight we'll make love until the world stops turning (I'm dreaming of a world) (Wherein there shines the sun) (Wherein there lay the stars) (Wherein there lie the stones) Gentle, but quickly We'll travel tonight in all my dreams All my dreams All my dreams, all my dreams Goodness will guide us if love is inside us The colors are brighter, the bond is much tighter You know no child's a failure Until the blue sailboat sails him away from his dreams Don't ever lose, don't ever lose Don't ever lose your dreams Yeah!
. recorded on April 28th 1985 @ Sunset Sound It was included as the ninth and final track on a 5.1.1985 configuration of Parade, but was removed before the album's release. The track was later included as the nineteenth and final track on a 6.3.1986 configuration of the album Dream Factory, and kept as the eighteenth and final track on the 7.18.1986 configuration.

“All My Dreams” would have worked really well on Parade, perhaps in place of “Mountains”.

I definitely don't think there is anything to "finish" on that song.

I'm not reading any "fiction" in those quotes. I also don't understand why there's so much hatred for Wendy and Lisa on this forum. They were quite important to Prince at one point and later they were not.. Paisley Park is in your heart - Love Is Here!

I remember a few years back Dez Dickerson was auctioning a tape of Prince demos that had an embryonic version of "sometimes it snows in April" on it. I think there is a decent chance that the version we are all familiar with on the Parade album and the one early on may be variations on the same song.

Not hatred, a lot of people love Lisa & Wendy, but there’s definitely been growing skepticism toward them for letting the Revolution kool-aid get to their heads. Either when it comes to their remarks about other Prince bands, or how they tried to change a narrative about certain music of his, it has been noticeable since his passing too. All Prince’ latest bands were quite important to him at one point of his time, if you remember his interviews when asked which band was his fave, his response was always “my band now”. They were the most popular group, anything beyond that is subjective.

. This quote bothers me. Prince included 'All My Dreams' on a configuration of 'Parade' and two configurations of 'Dream Factory'. It's safe to assume from tapes that have circulated that at least two of those LP configurations were professionally mastered, or at the very least sequenced in house. On all the leaked tapes that included 'All My Dreams' it never changed. Correction: I'd previously stated that 'All My Dreams' was included on all three configurations of Dream Factory. It was actually not included on the earliest version. [Edited 11/28/19 2:27am]

Well clearly not since he didn't release it, we have no idea what he might have done to it if it was released. I do agree that I'm not sure what W&L could change in it aside from maybe edit it slightly.

. I'd wager that had more with his relationship with Wendy & Lisa rather than how he felt about the song itself.

I remember that day in/around 1986 when I first heard All My Dreams, as it was yesterday.
My exact thoughts: from the first note: brilliant! After 10 seconds: a fucking masterpiece!!
And then came the signing: I'll see you tonight in all my dreams --> Out of this world!!
It is still a masterpiece, between his 10 best pieces probably; but it could have been even higher.

Funny but in concert The Revolution, When wendy spoke about “Snow” she says he wrote it “many moons” ago on April 21, so I’m not sure where they say they wrote the song. Prince used a lot of people’s parts and credited them on things they didn’t do and vice versa. Hence the highlighted part from the initial post, they were the most popular brand, but there were bands - and band members - who stayed longer than them and we were just as important to him from what he expressed in the past. Who would care? He did. Fans’ favouritism is the reason why some of us are selective at what is “factual” what’s not, which why I ended my initial post by saying everything else is subjective after the highlighted remark. Did W&L stay with him longer than Morris? I might care, you might not care, but neither here nor there because he did that’s the bottom line to me as far as W&L’s concerned. That is flat out stating they were working on an instrumental piece and he quickly wrote the lyrics on the spot.

Hmm... I hope their idea of 'finishing' that song is making minor mix adjustments, and not adding new elements or tinkering needlessly.

. They may not have known the song. So it's their experience. They were working on some instrumental music and Prince basically thought it would fit well with the song he remembered from before and he communicated the words and chord changes to W&L. I'd love to hear the original version(s), I think it will be quite different, and probably without the long intro that the album version has. So I guess someone should let W&L know it's an old song (play them the old version?) and see if their story changes a bit. It probably will. . It's not like they are exagerating their parts, like, for instance, Sheila E. Paisley Park is in your heart - Love Is Here!

From the interview: * Wendy: "...All of the musicians that Prince hired over the years, including me, he can do all of their parts. The only musician he ever hired that he can't mimic was Lisa..." * Can someone clarify that statement for me and/or give an example of a "Lisa part" that he couldn't imitate?

The Wendy & Lisa conection to creating the music for SISIA (and Mountains) is NOT new. Way back in a 1986 issue of Rolling Stone, it was written that they were credited for co-writing those two tracks. Indeed, those two tracks sound very much like W&L's music at the time (See "This Is The Life" and "Waterfall" for example). https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-news/lisa-coleman-and-wendy-melvoin-ladies-in-waiting-48039/ [Edited 11/28/19 15:19pm]
