The Super Deluxe versions are becoming scarce in the UK. Especially on vinyl. I ordered the cd set from Amazon which arrived on the 30th. I had intended to buy the vinyl set after Xmas. However I had messages from purple friends in London saying that they were struggling to find copies. HMV has now sold out on its website & my local store in Devon cannot get more. I phone four other independent stores & they all had sold out or didn’t order any. They all could try & order one. One helpful assistant phoned me to say that they had spoken directly to the Warner rep & there is no more stock left & they are not pressing more. I then bought a copy from eBay at an inflated price. However I am pleased I did because the prices there are starting to sky rocket. Someone had seriously underestimated the demand for this. How can Warner run out of stock after 48 hours??? Warner never said this was a limited edition run. On one hand i’m pleased that it has sold well but by the looks of things it could’ve sold much more. I know several people who wanted to get it ‘sometime’ who will now be priced out. Also what a shame that new fans discovering this album for the first time through YouTube or wherever will not be able to purchase physical product. 😡

Why are you turning to Ebay when Amazon is right there and just got 20+ additional stock of the vinyl set reupped on Dec 3?

Are u in the UK? That’s where I’m talking about. I know four people who are still waiting on their pre orders & the delivery date has been pushed back twice already. Although since posting this here & on Facebook I’ve been told that Amazon France have a few left at a decent price. 💜

The January 2020 issue ("Take 272") of UK music monthly Uncut contains best-of lists, and "Reissues of the Year" has 1999 Deluxe at 20:

Prince’s 1982 album of liberating funk rock jams found him entering an intense purple patch. Hence this expanded edition was rich in top-quality unreleased tracks from his legendary vault: the taut, fiery riffage of “Rearrange”, the rousing “Bold Generation” and the semi-legendary “Moonbeam Levels”. And, of course, a song called “Vagina”.

This right here is a great, one paragraph review.

I got my 5cds today. I'm importing them into iTunes but it's not finding the artwork.

.

Anyone know where to get the right images for each CD?

.

The images are on the CD. Simply look!

And you could put a CD in your cupholderCD-player and listen.

Much simpler.

I meant digital images. As I said, i'm importing them into iTunes and want the indidiual cd dleeve images.

.

.

I ended up using generic 1999 images but it woudlv'e been nice if the artwork popped in like it often does when you rip a cd.

It is a shame that the 5 disc version is turning out to be hard to get. I hit up three different retailers in Los Angeles and none of them had it. Amoeba, one of the best record stores in the world, has it listed online for $75 (no thanks, saved me a trip). So I ordered it from Amazon but it won't come for another week. Did WB/the Estate seriously underestimate demand or is the demand for physical product just not there? So few people buy CDs anymore (honestly I only buy them for Prince) I guess it's going to be harder to get these kinds of things going forward.

I can't find the 5CD and 10LP version at any record store either, they only have the remastered album and 2CD version. I'm glad I don't buy CDs anymore.

Apparently you do not mind carboard versus jewel cases....

The correct term is "plastic cases", it has nothing to do with jewels. I cannot think of one advantage they should have compared to cardboard cases:

They break when you drop them.

Often they arrive already broken in the mail.

They take up more space then cardboard boxes.

They are less pretty to look at.

You have to struggle to take the booklet out.

And of course, they do more harm to the environment.

What is your point of view?

I would agree the jewel boxes are the best.

When they get scratched, cracked or otherwise damaged they can be easily replaced and the CD packaging looks as good as new.

You can't do that with cardboard.

On the other hand, the days of jewel boxes are over. We're rarely going to get them going forward. We're lucky we're still getting discs, after all.

If it has to be cardboard, the design of the 1999 Super Deluxe is about as good as it's going to get.
Sure beats the hell out of that Purple Rain Deluxe, what with the discs either falling out or being near impossible to force out.

Jewl cases or 'plastic cases' I can replace.

Cardboard I cannot cheaply replace.

(and 1999 Deluxe went from €65 to €78 99at bol.com)

I have no problem with cardboard cases.I have many box sets with cardboard cases for the discs and I like it.Plastic jewel cases are becoming obsolete.

Same here. As an aside, those double cds with the double jewel plate we’re always a hassle because they would break so easy so it wouldn’t readily flip to the second cd etc

The entire set with all the CD content is up on the official Prince Youtube channel. I'm surprised they would do that so quickly.

My copy from the Estate website is still on backorder and there is no store in Maryland that has the SDE. Anyone know the best website to get it delivered before the weekend? It is insane that I live in a major city and no one has it.

I just did and they told me none in the area but they may get a shipment in a few weeks. Not sure how the Estate site doesn't have any. I ordered a long time ago. I obviously already have the stuff digitally. Most people would cancel their order by now but I want to support the cause.

I wish it was just that. A lot of people are still oblivious to his music/talent unfortunately, I played the “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” during a presentation I did last semester and you’ll not believe the many folks who remarked “wow! I didn’t know he actually played guitar, I thought it was just showmanship”. Needless to say, couple of those folks walked out of that class room as new fans smile

what if Prince meant for "Vagina" (and its hand scribbled artwork) to STAY locked away in private...forever... thats some freaky, personal shit right there...ESPECIALLY in 1982... this man had a dirty mind forreal...he might not have intended for everyone to know how dirty
