I wish it was just that. A lot of people are still oblivious to his music/talent unfortunately, I played the “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” during a presentation I did last semester and you’ll not believe the many folks who remarked “wow! I didn’t know he actually played guitar, I thought it was just showmanship”. Needless to say, couple of those folks walked out of that class room as new fans smile

His showmanship took away the focus of his guitar playing in many instances. I remember a Tamar gig when he played red headed stepchild and he justy slayed the solo but alot of people focused on the corny faces he was making which I could understand.

what if Prince meant for "Vagina" (and its hand scribbled artwork) to STAY locked away in private...forever... thats some freaky, personal shit right there...ESPECIALLY in 1982... this man had a dirty mind forreal...he might not have intended for everyone to know how dirty

He did Bambi and Sister, so this was his next risqué topic. But lyrically it’s not as ‘rude’ as those 2 songs. It’s actually quite sweet.

I don’t think “Vagina” was freaky at all, it has ah empowering message ala “Pussy Control” more less, the only thing shock value about them are the obvious titles, but I could name a lot freakier songs that he released in official configurations than that song.

maybe its not so freaky NOW, but in 1982 trangenders were way underground and generally seen as freaks and oddities and deviants...not accepted and normalized like they are today... a black man singing a song about a "tranny" in 1982 would not have been cool at all in that era...maybe career suicide...which is probably why it never saw the light of day..

Are you saying that transgenders now ar e dofferent?

Are you saying that changing the very defining parts of a body is 'normal'?

Decisions on changes like this should not be undertaken lightly and not by parents when underage.

And exactly that is what is happening.

It is absurd to the maxx.

.

Why do a sex change before even find counselling?

You don't think song lyrics should ever be censored, but you think a living person should be censored or discouraged from expressing their true selves, because their existence doesn't line up with your narrow view of how a human can/should identify? What kind of backwards ass bullshit is this? You aren't the free thinker you want to believe you are.

.

You are drawing conclusions based on what?

You imply that sex changes are necessary and normal and an expression of the true selves without commenting on the effects of such a change.

I say it is Darwinism at its best. It also signifies a failure in care at all levels.

.

Censorship should not apply to art.

Sayin someone has a narrow mind says more about you than about the actual research you did before uttering such a statement or the actual situation.

You are moving away from the actual issues and instead comment on the messenger. Total weakness there.

Saying I am a free thinker before I even tried to phrase a sentence about that is in the same corner.

At least I am not a fake `liberal`. Labels of legacy 'parties' do not apply to those parties anymore.

Didn't you notice?

Maybe, but I sorta read "Vagina" as a direct response to "Lola" (as I wrote on the other thread -- sorry, having trouble with the org today.) The general garage-rock vibe and lyrics ("met her at a bar" etc.) suggest to me the possibility at least the Prince had the song on his mind when he wrote "Vagina". Doens't make him any less brilliant, tho.

Yeah, how dare they point out that other artists sang about that topic years earlier and scored a hit? (See also: https://en.wikipedia.org/...Reed_song) .)

You are really doing the most with the trolling on this issue (and other issues). This has nothing to do with "Vagina" or 1999 Super Deluxe. Chill out and take your views on transgendered people elsewhere.

Where did I mention 'vagina'?

Who brought up transgenders in the first place?

I don't think it's about a transgender. If you study the lyrics, Vagina sounds more like a Drag King - a woman who dresses like a man. And in this case the woman is a bisexual, kissing another woman at a gay bar and then doing it with Prince. nuts

Vagina is the song and the person who brought up transgender people was someone commenting on Prince's foresight in discussing a topic that was ahead of its time. Not about whether or not children are being forced into being transgender, wtf.

Not a lesbian, because Prince and her "do it." More like a "butch bisexual woman." razz

With regards to Extraloveable, I found out something interesting on twitter yesterday.
.
According to Dr Funkenberry, Prince had intended to place Extraloveable on the album but it ended up being replaced by D.M.S.R.
.
"1999" replaced "Turn It Up" and "D.M.S.R." replaced "Extraloveable".....

.
Interview/convo we had. The discussion came about over him bringing up the updated version of "Extraloveable" (now xtraloveable) & i asked bout the lyrics. More was discussed re 1999 & he actually allowed me to take notes about it. I did let the estate know a year ago about it.

That's VERY interesting. smile

Any clues as to what the album was called before 1999 was added to it? confused

Surely the album wasn't called Turn It Up?! eek
