I agree, Rave is unfairly maligned, IMO. I think it’s a better album than Musicology which ended up with a much better reception. Feel free to join in the Prince Album Poll 2018! Let'a celebrate his legacy by counting down the most beloved Prince albums, as decided by you! | |

All of this so very true! all except this line “even his most diehard fans were exhausted by his output” Nope. Continuous output was what is was all about being a diehard fan. The greatest live performer of our times was is and always will be Prince.

Damn! Has it really been 20 years?....Feels like yesterday when I bought "Rave". I wasn't crazy about it back then, so now I'll have go back and re-visit it. | |

Exactly! Rave has a few brilliant tracks (I Love U, ManOWar, Tangerine, Prettyman), otherwise it is a lower tier Prince album for me. It definitely has its charm & whimsical charisma and Clare Fischer has great inputs there. Take “Undisputed”, the reggae/dancehall rap & the “do you love your brother” bits and you got yourself a thoroughly strong album. For sentimental value, this album will hold a special place in my heart because it what started me as a fan back then. | |

That album needed Arista to release other singles and plug them for airplay! TGRES was very much dominated by the remixes by other artists (Neptunes etc.) and the only place where "Baby Knows" got a look in was an impossibly rare dutch promo CDR. Prince even did a European mini tour to support the album, but Arista were largely absent with respect to supporting it. | |

Agree with the general thrust of the article. I do think a lot of people were exhausted by his prolific output at the time but also by the negative vibe associated with him in the 90s. It wasn't a great album or one of his best, but a damn good one to be sure. |

Clive Davis was ousted from Arista late 2000 which could be seen as having affected Rave. Sort of. I guess. | |

While I don't loooooove the song Undisputed. The Moneyapolis Mix from Rave In2 is very funky and the superior version of the song. "New Power slide...." |
