Friend Lover Sister Mother/Wife What an awesome song! Loved it when Emancipation came out but have a new appreciation for it now. When I did the Paisley Park tour in July and went into the studio with the Ping Pong table ,it was playing in the background. Some of the other people on the tour starting humming it and singing it .

Sorry to be a negative Nellie but this is 1 of very few P songs that I don't quite dig for sum reason. The melody in it is just non existent. Maybe I'll get it someday but eh 😀 For all time I am with you, you are with me.

A true Classic...the vocal arrangement is perfect. Love the simple lyrics equating Love to Survival. Love Prince songs with Gospel deconstruction and undertones (U Make My Sun Shine at Night).

This comment just confuses me.. In fact parts of the vocal melody are similar to "Future Baby Mama"'s da da da daa da da da da daaaa. [Edited 9/27/19 20:13pm]

Beautiful song. I’m a sap and a sucker for love ballads, and this is one of my favorites from Emancipation. Personally I love the melody, with the piano notes and the sound of (wedding) bells in the background. It’s just gorgeous. * When I went to Mayte’s book signing, someone asked her what her favorite P song is. She said it was tough because there’s so many, but ultimately she said it was this one (a no brainer, I guess).

I think the sentiment expressed in the song is beautiful. I like the groove too. It is my kinda song.
