More Originals, more Reissues & maybe a Superdeluxe Edition of Purple Rain on the way confirm Michael HOWE

In the last Edition (november) of Long live Vinyl ....a long article on the expanded 1999 Album...Interviews from Revolution to Michael HOWE the Archivist

One of the best part from this article

MORE ORIGINALS

Estate manager Michael Howe confirms 1999 will be followeed by more super deluxe editions of other Prince albums.Further volumes of Originals, the brilliant compilation of Prince’s previously-unreleased vesrions of songs he gave to other artists, will also happen. “There could be other variations on that theme”, Howe reveals.”Whether it’s a Prince covers album or a body of work that’s not Prince proper but has his DNA and is thematically linked, we’ll see”

As with the welter of extra songs on 1999, further expanded releases will feature all of Prince’s material from the album period.”We try to include everything we can that points the most complete picture of that period” says Howe.

Could that include revisiting Purple Rain? The 2015 reissue released while Prince was alive was nowhere as extensive as the 1999 set. “I can’t get into specifics on Purple rain” Howe admists “ but if you’re asking for my opinion, I do think there’s a much more complete album, and it should be rendered in a much more complete way;”

All nice and all, but as long as he's overseeing that stuff we'll never get proper complete archival releases.
It's time they fire him and put someone there who actually knows a thing or two about Prince's music to oversee proper releases like an artist as Prince deserves.

Sorry, I can not translate well: what it means "a body of work that’s not Prince proper but has his DNA and is thematically linked"?

This is one of the best parts of the article?

The bit referring to "The 2015 reissue [of Purple Rain] released while Prince was still alive"?

I presume they mean "The 2015 remaster of Purple Rain, as overseen by Prince, and posthumously released in 2017".

Don't worry - it is not written sufficiently clear in English to understand. It could mean all sorts of things, so it's not worth speculating.

OK, so :

explained :

...all kinds of albums are possible; a 'Prince covers' album, or an album (body of work), that has Prince's input and or influence all over it, and/or is thematically lnked to 'anything Prince'...

If it's not Prince, I'm not interested. And we all know how much Prince loved people covering his tunes. neutral

I'd be happy with more volumes of Originals, though. I'm hoping that's the reason we didn't get Jerk Out on the 1999 Deluxe.

With regards to trying to "include everything" from each era on the upcoming deluxe editions, I'm wondering if they really did that for 1999 Deluxe. It's missing a couple key tracks (Extraloveable and Lust U Always - yea, because rape, but still), and I remember Neversin stating that more than any other era, 1999 has material that is unheard/uncirculating.

From the tracklist, it seems much of the unreleased studio material is circulating. I'm wondering whether or not the elite collectors are satisfied with the tracklist, and if they think it's missing some songs that would create a more "complete picture."

I've just read the article, and unfortunately there's next to no info on the outtakes. There's a bunch of anecdotes WRT 1999, but you'll likely know most of those. Unfortunately Long Live Vinyl is often light on substance in that way. Lots of big pictures, though.

.

Note that the mag has some other Prince-content: A copy of D&P is mentioned in their "Most Valuable Vinyl" section, there's a full-page ad for 1999 Deluxe, and there's a review of the three recent reissues on Sony/Legacy.

I said this when PAAM and Originals came out, that it was quite possibly a test of the waters for future releases, as a series almost. It seems like Originals is the most logical type of release, aside from Deluxe editions, and completed but unreleased full albums.

Thanks I was going to ask if there were any reviews of the Outtakes.

I would love to see a few more volumes of the Originals release. I think it is a highly enjoyable album and a great concept.

Hopefully we get another in the first quarter of next year followed shortly by the next super deluxe release.

I really hate these silly editorials that say NOTHING and mean NOTHING!!!

Of course there is a high probability of more deluxe editions!

Of course there is a high probability of more super deluxe editions!

Of course there is a high probability of further volumes of 'Originals'!

Is the Estate still in business and are they in the business of making money? YES, so they WILL be releasing more product in the future!

This article is meaningless!!!

However... I have some exclusive NEWS!!!!

In the future there is a high possibility of a DVD release and perhaps a blu ray release!

In the future there is a high possibility of a live album!

In the future there is a high possibility of previously unreleased outtakes being released.

You heard it here first and EXCLUSIVE!!!

But... I can't tell you, what or when as that is a secret nobody knows!

cool

Try looking up the word "editorial" instead of using it wrong.

This article is meaningless!!!

.

Now you're confusing a sidebar with an article. You do realise that this is a multi-page article, and that we're discussing a small part of it here, right?
