What deluxe version would YOU like to see next?

Call me greedy, I don't care! Let's dream a little bit.

Now that Purple Rain and 1999 deluxe versions have become a reality, what would you like to see next? I can't decide between either a DIRTY MIND Deluxe or a PARADE deluxe. Right now I'm leaning PARADE. I think there's so much they could do with it...

It has to be Sign 'O' The Times. And I'm happy for them to pull out all the stops. Make it as expansive and ridiculous as possible. Include Dream Factory tracks, The Dawn musical tracks, Camille tracks, Crystal Ball tracks, heck even stick the Flesh sessions on there if they must. I wouldn't even care if they omit any live material, just give me as many out takes as possible.

Work outward from Purple Rain, in alternating directions each time. So:

  1. Around the World in a Day
  2. Controversy
  3. Parade
  4. Dirty Mind
  5. Sign o' the times
  6. Prince
  7. Lovesexy
  8. For You, and then chronologically from Batman on...
PRINCE: the only man who could wear high heels and makeup and STILL steal your woman!

don't really care what order they release them in as long as they make deluxe remasters/reissues
for ALL of the warner brothers albums.

and then once those are done, i'm sure Sony or whomever will start releasing post WB material cool

Parade or Sign are the obvious 2 for the next batch of deluxe versions. i'd prefer sign cause so much happened and so much was recorded from the time he dropped the revolution til the time sign came out. i say do exactly what they did for 1999 except include live audio and video from a sign tour show other than the movie

Parade is the one that was rumoured to also be near completion, so I am guess Parade is next.

Anything from Musicology onwards. I have hundreds of "unreleased" or alternate versions of songs from the 80s so Deluxe versions of his classic albums don't really excite me to be honest. The 1999 Deluxe edition seems OK because there's about 14 or 15 songs on there that I don't already have but there's no guarantee that a Sign of the Times or Parade remaster will contain all that many new songs for me. But outtakes from 2004 - 2016 are very rare so I'd rather something from that era instead of the 80s stuff.

i still have a lot of hope that there will be many completed albums in the vault from that period pray

Then the rest set of remasters should be boxsets of 3 albums. For You—Dirty Mind. Controversy—Purple Rain, etc.

I'd be very interested in seeing the deluxe box set treatment to the Dirty Mind and Controversy albums. By themselves they're quite short, but surely all the energy flowing around on those albums sessions are what attracted me to Prince. Plus there's very little unreleased music from those eras that's bootlegged, I literally can't remember hearing anything else but the song "Lisa" from the Dirty Mind sessions.

.

Otherwise, Sign o' the times and Parade, but those will eventually come out anyway.

I wish they would consider For You. Its really low fi but the song craftmanship is excellent. Sure, it's before he became weird but its a great Joni influenced album.

Controversy with The Second Coming DVD.

the man that filmed it (the concert and the story elements) said that Prince bought the convert footage back from him but NOT the story elements. But he seemed to indicate he had it and a few seconds has made it out.

How about... For You and Prince (as one set) and Dirty Mind and Contravacy as another?

low fi? It's like his best sounding/most lushley produced album. I love the 80s stuff of course, but they all sound like they were recorded and mixed on a tour bus the day of (which is why I feel people erronreously clamor for remasters when they really want full remixes, but that's another subject). For You is like a 500 thread count silk pillow.

Well, I always have to turn the volume up on it.

That's because they were released in the initial wave of CD releases, before brickwalling was the hot digital trend.... the "loud" tracks in your shuffle are the problem, not the other way around... The post-1992 Prince "loud" tracks have everything else wrong with them sonically.

I'm glad you brought that up, though, because whenever I try and prompt people on why they dislike the 80s CD "mastering" so much it turns out (19)99% of their reasoning is the volume and not the actual "mastering" as it relates to quality of sound...

Me personally I don't get why twisting a knob or clicking a toggle is that intense of a deal, but, I'm sure you'll definitely be able to hear whatever they're cooking up for November.

That's why I said "shuffle." I didn't mean Prince-centric shuffle. All encompassing full music collection shuffle.

But for the record if said shuffle was limited to original CD releases from the late 80s until about '91 or '92 there really would be zero.zero "loud" outliers.... stuff wasn't maximized/brickwalled to the heavens until the mid 90s, it just wasn't.
