Just listening to New Power Generation (the song) and I'm thinking is it the same basic tracks as Bold Generation? he even says "we got to rearrange" in the song (one of the other songs on 1999 Deluxe). Maybe something similar to We Can Fuck with the same basic tracks but overdubbed into an 'almost' different song. It'll be interesting to hear nevertheless!

Michael Howe: I don’t believe this ever trickled out into the fan community, and really is the only example of something on the entire set of expanded body of work that we had to source from a cassette rough mix, because there was literally no other existing version. Even a two-inch [reel] was recorded over, so we didn’t even have a trace of what the original track was, but we did find a cassette rough mix of it and made it as sonically appealing as we possibly could, given the limitations, but that’s the kind of forensic approach that we tried to take. I am virtually certain it was initially intended for The Time and obviously never ended up getting released as it currently exists, and turned into the song ‘New Power Generation’, which is something that ended up on Graffiti Bridge I guess, but this is a much more organic sort of approach I would say.
A cynical part of me always wondered if Prince was courting Pepsi-Cola with 'New Power Generation'. I'm relieved to learn that that was never the case.

I don't see how the rape lyrics could. The Black Album was released to little no controversy (he shoots at cops, threatnes to slap and kill his woman, terrorizes a supermodel, drinking blood, tying people to chairs and scare them).
The Black album is out print since 25 years, and Is apparently included neither in the new WB deal, nor in the Sony deal, and wasn't even included in the Universal deal. . The rape lyrics is objectively a good reason to not release this song, in this "me too era". . Causing voluntarily some huge controversy for an artist that couldn't even defend himself since he is dead, would have devastating effects that couldn't be repaired. . The analogy that someone here made with the documentary against MJ is a good one. .
All the songs are readily available via whatever means to be scrutinized, if it would be so harmful in this #Me Too era it would have been a problem already. Everyone famous was put under a loop when that whole #Me Too shit began, inlcuding Prince, and nobody said anything about his lyrical content. If they would then they would have to look into a huge pile of 90's to current Hip Hop for more deplorable stuff or even books. I think (or hope) these #Me Too people can distinguish actual rape accounts from fictional lyrics, as if Prince would really threaten to rape someone and sing about it I truly hope these #Me Too people aren't that dumb, and considering Prince hasn't been blamed of such things even though a lot of people and, I wouldn't doubt also #ME Too supporters, have heard these lyrics, especially after he died, I highly doubt he would ever be blamed just for his lyrics.
If you had to rule the prince business, would you seriously take the risk?
There is a difference between release the song in an event boxset with a pristine sound, and an obscure bootleg, that as a fan, I didn't even care to listen.
.
But if it is release officially, every specialized media would talk about it, and would focus on it
.
I m not saying this is a good journalism, but that's the logical today [Edited 9/16/19 9:42am] |

Hi Gustavm,
.
According to https://www.superdeluxeed...-material/ all sets will be on black vinyl except for the 2LP edition which will be purple.
.
The CD edition will include a smaller 48pp perfect bound booklet that will contain all of the track notes present in the vinyl version. It doesn’t state specifically if all the content will be the same, but I’m assuming it’s just a smaller version of the vinyl booklet. |

Hi there.
.
According to https://www.prince.com/article/1999, the release date is the 29th November across all formats. Before the official announcement the 15th was mistakenly rumoured as the release date. Some outlets seemed to have run with it. |

Seriously? I'm stating the obvious but those lyrics in today's day and age would be a big no. Same for Lust U Always. Personally I wish they both were included but you can understand why the powers that be chose otherwise.

I agree it's ridiculous but it's the way it is now. My 12 year old daugther constantly accuses me of being offensive in one way or another. 'That's racist/sexist/stereo-typing' is all I get but kids are being told this in school and social media.
.
In light of Sinead O'Connor's latest accusations though I guess the estate, from a business point of view, are glad they did not include these tracks. You can imagine the press running with the Prince rape lyrics and woman beater stories. |

Please explain her that saying stuff about the shape of things is weak.
She should be able (sooon...) to discern between the shape of things and the content of the things that are communicated.

Unfortunately, yep
The guy who owns the record shop near me Private Messaged me on Facebook and said if I wanted him to order all three LP sets he would hold them for me until I can pay them off. So I am DJing an event this weekend and will just give him the money I make there, I will still have a little money left over.
The CD I ordered off Wal*Mart's website. It was the cheapest I found onine. Making love and music are the only things worth fighting for. |
