I've been thinking about all the disappointment on this thread about Xtraloveable being excluded. I also would love to hear the original (only ever heard on HNR) but my mind keeps going back to the recent Neverland video (not disputing guilt or innocence). MJ was basically crucified based on accusations alone and a media outlet. All it would take would be someone to say P raped them and a large media outlet to promote it and there goes P's legacy...forever tarnished without any burden of proof. I would hate to see anything like that ever happen.

((found this)) Duff McKagan has continually expressed his unabashed love for Prince and his music. Saying things such as: “I have been a die-hard Prince fan since the early ’80s. When Controversy came out in 1981, a punker friend of mine in Seattle demanded that I listen to it. Prince was unlike anyone else. When 1999 came out in 1982, the record transformed my insides.” Duff even credits Prince for inspiring him to follow his dreams of becoming a rock star. “When Purple Rain hit, I was free and starting to take life by the balls. That record was the soundtrack to my life and gave me the confidence to move to L.A. at 19, with nothing more than belief in myself. Prince’s music can do that.”

I was at a Prince concert where Duff along with other members of Soundgarden and Alice in chains where attending during Prince's welcome 2 america tour.

'life' came in the way and before that Prince was.

Even WB apparently could not gather enough material after mr Nelson departed us.

I mean:

Read this article: https://www.rollingstone....ms-191597/

Then you know what their idea was, which appears lightly more on par with the 1999 deluxe release.

For certain reasons they were unable to make this a reality.

.

No I am not sorry for WB...

The stupidest thing about this is that it's on YouTube with over 200,000 views.

Give it a listen and try to keep in mind that it's extremely tongue in cheek from a time period where consent was blurred in the mainstream. The idea of Prince getting so revved up that he says something vile to get her attention then, all 5 foot 2 of him, threatens to drag her to the bath. "Now are you going to get in the tub or do I have to drag you? Don't make me drag you, I can be very cruel" as he's chanting "Hippie don't stop the groove, extralovable beat tells your body what to do."

It's laughable. It's not a serious song.

I swear the people that defend it being locked away only read the word rape on a lyric sheet and then their brain shuts down.

"B-b-but the woke crowd will get mad."

So what. They don't have any money, they aren't purchasing anything, they'll move on to the faux scandal within a week because meaningless conflict is all they have in their life. Quit giving these fucking idiots power.

It should be remembered too that they thought they were gonna include 1st Ave '83, that would have upped the appeal considerably...

Still don't understand why they didn't...

The Estate pulled it so they could put it and the rights to make a documentary out of the rehearsal footage on the market. Apple won.

As has been pointed out numerous times: NO, because PRDeluxe happened before they started properly going through The Vault. Also, PRDeluxe was Warners rushing out product to the market in an effort to stake their claim.

"stake claim" or try to get a quick cash grab!

No I am not a WB hater at all. Makes business sense and Prince messed them around on the PR remaster release etc.

Contractual timescale stuff may impact this ever happening but I would like PR to get the same treatment as 1999 if only because they will look great in my collection!

I am super-psyched for this special edition... I've already pre-ordered it. But I just now saw the packaging:

Prince / 1999 5CD+DVD box set

Look at that! A box with a slip-cover... different photos on the CD and DVD sleeves... the graphics... Man, that's an impressive deluxe set. I can't wait to get my hands on it.

.

But... I hate to sound like an unappreciative fan, but... couldn't they have done something like this for "Purple Rain"? "1999" is a great and important album, to be sure, but... I mean, c'mon: "PURPLE RAIN"! There wasn't more they could have done vault-wise and packaging-wise? If it was because they needed more time to go through the Vault material, then I could have waited another year or two. Again, I don't mean to whine... just pondering the whys and hows.

.

All I know is: they better do something this impressive for "Sign 'O' The Times"!!!

Two questions:

.

.

1. Will the CD Super deluxe have everything the Vinyl Super deluxe has? Just the photos and liner notes booklet will be smaller?

.

.;

2. Is there a away to buy the CDs but also get MP3s for your phone? Amazon used to do that but I dont see that option now.

Though I would love to go for the 10LP version I think I will get the CD full box version (5CD 1DVD) and then just the regular album on Vinyl. My reasoning is more than the fact that its 200 dollars, its also the sound quality meaning some of these demos, as per an interview, were "the best they could do" as nothing else existed. Also I suggest if you want that LP BOX get it now, because there is going to be a delay FOR SURE on it.

All I know baby is what I see is good ... How Come U Don’t Call Me Anymore (take 2) —- yes, I’m excited for that

Don’t need no refer, don’t need cocaine ... 1999 Deluxe should do the same to my brain. And I’ll get high, so high, in November. —- yaaass!

Darlin. It appears to me. ... International Lover. I hope you are an acoustic piano version

Turn it up! Turn it up baby! ... that’s what I’m planning to do.

I am definitely looking forward to this.

(Btw, Extraloveable has a playful dis at Dez, like he’s out of the band. I don’t think that would exactly work on 1999 Deluxe considering that Dez has a significant role in both big singles.)

Edit to hopefully get some line breaks.

A mate made a really good point about this box - where's the unedited full length version of 1999 that apparently has a Latin section? Feels like a major dropping of the ball for it to not be included, despite how good the rsuper deluxe release looks.

Maybe. It was said to have been recorded and to be on the multi-track master but may not have ever been part of the any mix. (it was re-recorded and used in the New Master)

I don't see how the rape lyrics could. The Black Album was released to little no controversy (he shoots at cops, threatnes to slap and kill his woman, terrorizes a supermodel, drinking blood, tying people to chairs and scare them).

The Black album is out print since 25 years, and Is apparently included neither in the new WB deal, nor in the Sony deal, and wasn't even included in the Universal deal.
.
The rape lyrics is objectively a good reason to not release this song, in this "me too era".
.
Causing voluntarily some huge controversy for an artist that couldn't even defend himself since he is dead, would have devastating effects that couldn't be repaired.
.
The analogy that someone here made with the documentary against MJ is a good one.

Just listening to New Power Generation (the song) and I'm thinking is it the same basic tracks as Bold Generation? he even says "we got to rearrange" in the song (one of the other songs on 1999 Deluxe). Maybe something similar to We Can Fuck with the same basic tracks but overdubbed into an 'almost' different song. It'll be interesting to hear nevertheless!

All the songs are readily available via whatever means to be scrutinized, if it would be so harmful in this #Me Too era it would have been a problem already.
Everyone famous was put under a loop when that whole #Me Too shit began, inlcuding Prince, and nobody said anything about his lyrical content. If they would then they would have to look into a huge pile of 90's to current Hip Hop for more deplorable stuff or even books. I think (or hope) these #Me Too people can distinguish actual rape accounts from fictional lyrics, as if Prince would really threaten to rape someone and sing about it lol I truly hope these #Me Too people aren't that dumb, and considering Prince hasn't been blamed of such things even though a lot of people and, I wouldn't doubt also #ME Too supporters, have heard these lyrics, especially after he died, I highly doubt he would ever be blamed just for his lyrics.

Seriously? I'm stating the obvious but those lyrics in today's day and age would be a big no. Same for Lust U Always. Personally I wish they both were included but you can understand why the powers that be chose otherwise.

Mathieu Bitton said similar on Twitter.

As for the Dez 'playful dis;' I cannot see how that would be an issue. It would even be a good talking point and anecdote for Dez etc to discuss in promo

Michael Howe: I don’t believe this ever trickled out into the fan community, and really is the only example of something on the entire set of expanded body of work that we had to source from a cassette rough mix, because there was literally no other existing version.

Even a two-inch [reel] was recorded over, so we didn’t even have a trace of what the original track was, but we did find a cassette rough mix of it and made it as sonically appealing as we possibly could, given the limitations, but that’s the kind of forensic approach that we tried to take.

I am virtually certain it was initially intended for The Time and obviously never ended up getting released as it currently exists, and turned into the song ‘New Power Generation’, which is something that ended up on Graffiti Bridge I guess, but this is a much more organic sort of approach I would say.
