Any self-respecting straight guy wouldn't be up in arms about it because they'd be secure in their own sexuality and wouldn't feel needlessly threatened by homosexuality. That is common sense, some of y'all are just stuck in the ugly mindset you were taught as kids lol Don't even get me started on the person who thinks that Mike "Conversion Therapy To Force The Gay Out Of Kids" Pence is worthy of being defended, gtfo with that bullshit.

He changed the lyrics to C&D during the 3rdEyeGirl era to "he's gay used to mean he's happy, these days we're happy and we're proud."

Make of that what you will.

But then you have shit like Da Bourgeoisie, with lyrics like "Nothing like you ever lasts for eternity", which always struck me as a homophobic line.

No, I'm not. The point of my reply was that there are varying levels of homophobia, and not all of them are as extreme as direct violence, but even jokes and general discomfort with homosexuality contribute to the kind of culture that can lead to violence over time. Obviously I never said "Prince is responsible for every homophobic hate crime!", but his attitude was one small part of the larger picture. All homophobia needs to be examined and changed into acceptance, and people continuously giving their favorite artists a pass for casual homophobia is part of why it hasn't happened yet.

I've seen this happen firsthand, I knew a fighter who ended up killing a guy he was in a relationship with. He had a girlfriend too, and obviously, I think it's a lot more than hearing negative stuff about gays, what he did probably had a lot to do with his home life as a child, something went wrong. he was a capable fighter, in a macho world where gay epithets are thrown around all the time. He couldn't keep any of it together, he tried to rob his boyfriend and choked him, he got locked up for that, but being as it wasn't taken that seriously, he was let out and he went back to finish the job. no body was ever found but they found enough blood to say that the victim was dead. Sad story, sad life, he's in prison without possiblity for parole. I read a blog from someone else who knew him, he said he visited him in prison and asked him why he didn't come talk to him, he said that he'd heard the way gays were talked about and didn't feel like he could. Inspite of the crime, I really do think he could hav turned out much better, the environment he was in, raised by a asst. police chief, and then, the violent world of mma, he fell apart. I keep telling myself to write him, it's been almost 20 years.

I agree....

But it's tied together.

There's a case to be made that Prince settled for men early in his life when he couldn't get girls. It comes up a number of times in various songs. That could also be the genesis of his lifelong idea that there was no such thing as gay but relationships of convenience and/or somebody who just didn't find the right hetrosexual lover yet.

After he joined the Witnesses, his perspective started to mirror their perspective. Jehovah gave man free will and, although some of us may be predispositioned to certain types of sin, it's up to us to live according to God's word. No living man is perfect or free of sin but willingly committing the same sin over and over with no attempt to control yourself is especially frowned upon by them.

Similar you can take what Prince said to Wendy as homophobic but, when you think of it from Prince's perspective at the time, Wendy was willingly disobeying Jehovah and there would be no everlasting life for her in the New World. What a horrible fate for somebody you care about.

Since they worked together later on, he must have come to peace with that idea or softened with a different theory. Talk to Witnesses for awhile and you'll see that there's no official line on what will happen in the New World. Everybody's coming back but they seem to lean towards there being some sort of grace period where people get one more opportunity to fall in line, unless you were directly judged during the apocalypse. The direct judgement thing is a reason why they push service and baptism so hard. You don't want to get caught asleep when the end comes like a thief in the night.

Depends on how you interpret the line. It is a Christian belief that the only way to eternal life is through Jesus Christ etc. The song is about a lesbian and when he says "nothing like you ever lasts for eternity" that could mean he's saying she won't ever achieve eternal life because of her lifestyle/sexual preferences.

Take in the whole line.

.

"I guess a man is only good for a rainy day
Or maybe you're just another bearded lady at the cabaret!
Ray Charles even saw you in the past before he saw me
'Cause nothing like you ever last for eternity

I got the receipt baby
But where's the guarantee
I forgot, you're fake as a Christmas tree
I wish I never kissed your lips, bearded lady "

.

So same as Everlasting Now. The beautiful girl is a dime a dozen fantasy that isn't everlasting. She used him for a day and got what she wanted. Everything about her is artificial and everything she said to him was a lie. A story as old as time going backwards but a story without a future.

.

The song is an interesting contrast to Ain't Gonna Miss U When You Gone or The One U Wanna C

.

"By my critique, something's changed
Every time you speak, it sounds deranged
Blessed are the meek
You used to be my girl
Now you're just a freak
Thrown back in the world
Ain't gonna miss you when you're gone
Only thing I'm leaving you is alone

Stacking the weeks
Sitting, counting the years
Never been scared of nothing
But you I fear
No more curse, cause you're away
Nothing's worse than salty talk on holy days

Nothing "

.

So he's content with using his wealth to attract these types of women but, once they anger him by running their own game or behave in a way that he interprets as a threat to his spiritual health, they're a freak to be cast away or a government agent trying to destroy him. lol

Funny, because Prince encouraged many women to alter their bodies through breast implants to pleasure himself.
A certain kind of mellow.

And I "own" my own story wholeheartedly as I believe everyone should. We are all human and in the process of learning, and that included Prince.

It's in this article:

http://www.startribune.com/the-life-of-prince-as-told-by-the-people-who-knew-him/376586581/

WENDY MELVOIN: We tried to put together a [Revolution] reunion tour in 2000, and he declined because of my homosexuality and the fact I’m half-Jewish. It came back: Go have a press conference denouncing your homosexuality and that you’re converting to Jehovah. I was like: I guess we’ll never hear from him again. And I had to kind of mourn him. It was devastating to think we’ve kind of lost him.

And sometimes, people use their religion as an excuse to cover for the fact that they wouldn't want to do something under any circumstances. Prince was never, ever going to do a Revolution reunion.

Put more simply, why would Prince be a homophobe in 2000, but not in 1984? That makes no sense. In fact, it could be reasonably argued that he played UP Wendy and Lisa's relationship during their time in the Revolution.

The anti-semitism is another subject (see The Rainbow Children). But again, he had Jewish folks working with/for him at pretty much every stage of his career. So which was the true Prince?

-

There were talks of doing a reunion tour with The Revolution around 2000.

That means, he was involved in the talks.

-

He wasn't a homophobe in 1984, and yes he became one by 2000. Yes it can make sence.

He went from Seventh Day.. to JW for instance - it became 'worse'.

And no, W&L's relationship back in the day could not be argued, simply because they all were the bests of friends, stayed together in their houses, etc. Enough info through Susannah & Wendy.

-

He indedd had lots of jewish (and related) people working aroung him all the time.

Matt Fink is (half?) Jewish for instance.

Yes indeed, which was the true Prince ?

For sure he did not trust many people, and he was in my personal opinion, 'very weird'. No matter what most people think at least, that's what I understand from all the books and interviews etc written about him. He didn't act normal quite often. Does that made him insecure when around people ? Could be... (...a personal guess, no fact.)

-

"The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves. And wiser people so full of doubts" (Bertrand Russell 1872-1972)
