Releasing the original versions of Extraloveable and Lust U Always will attract a lot of the wrong attention, and I doubt we want journalists nosing through Prince's romantic history... A certain kind of mellow.

You had EC and Fathers Song? And Im not talking about you taped it on cassette from the movie way bck when and then trick-bagged it on janky home studio production etc. Not EC, I had We Can Fuck and Father's Song. The same versions on PR Deluxe, I had in similar quality for a few years before they were officially released. EC was completely new to me.

I mean, the songs are out now, so there is no way to prove I had them before But, as we all know, just because something isn't mentioned or discussed, it doesn't mean that it doesn't exist

That those songs would either not be released or released but edited is what I'm afraid of, ESPECIALLY in today's 'me too' environment. I want to hear those, along with the earlier version of Possessed, unedited and in studio quality. "I like to watch."

Im speaking specidically about studio Fathers Song and Elec Inter. Im not saying that nobody had them (I dont think they did though) but if they did, I never herd anyone ever mention having or someone having those two songs. Others yeah ... "Climb in my fur."

I would be ok if they edited extraloveable to edit at 6:03....edit out until 6:45.
I think the release schedule needs to pick up some pace.
I would prefer:
1. original album remastered 2. outtakes, demos, alt versions 3. 12 inch, 7inch 4. soundboards of a few shows

You also had “Love and Sex” and the ‘84 vocal version of “Possessed”? "Don't need no Reefer. Don't need Cocaine. Purple Music does the same to my brain."

But those two songs were big and popular in the canon and wer always mentioned. I just shocked that nobody ever mentioned they had them stuio versions. Not even Timmy mentioned them when the live or movie versions were disucssed "Climb in my fur."

I mean we all knew they must have existed esp for him to have performed EI live, there must have been a studio one that begat the live perfromances. "Climb in my fur."

Those tracklists don't make much sense at all anyway, because fans can only do them based on: 1/ already circulating outtakes (that should not be all such a release contains if the Estate does their homework) 2/ random titles of songs that are known to exist but haven't been heard (talk about a blind guess!) Such an exercise lacks precisely what a curator would need to do: a thorough examination of all the available material and recording dates, a sense of historicity regarding what might constitute the most important recordings, a cohesive selection followed by a proper sequencing, not to mention the quality of the tapes and the fact that the product must be appealing to a larger audience than the most hardcore fans. Same with the shows: if all the shows from a given tour are available. The choice of the show has to follow some sense of quality and historicity (typically in that case, the show that was to become the Second Coming film would make more sense drom a historical perspective, as it was the closest to Prince's original intent, but their might be sound quality issues involved, or another show could be significantly better). So we can make all the wishlists we want, but those tracklists cannot possiblky reflect what the project should be if it's going to be any good. Not that CD2 on PR Deluxe was well sequanced or necessarily the best possible songs selection, mind you, but hopefully they'll do better next time. I don't even know how they can do this (except digitally where they could virtually publish everything), because there are often many versions and edits of a single song. An approach could be to take the last known edit/mix of each track (within the given timeframe, not counting later reworks or rerecordings) and consider it as Prince's final intent, but in some cases that might mean renouncing a mindblowing longer mix in favor of a shorter edit, and there's the problem of vocals by other artists recorded after prince's own vocals, so the rule must be flexible and that's if they actually have everything properly dated. . Another factor to be taken in consideration is that simple rule of music marketing which is that once a release is out, it will never get the publicity again so if you release it all at once, you lose exposure by comparison to releasing it over the course of several years (typically, unsigned artists are encouraged to release an album track by track instead of all at once, for that very same reason). . And then again there might be a wish to curate, i.e. select the best tracxks for a given set, trying to come-up with cohesive over comprehensive. . I really have no idea what they intend to do in the long run, obviously no one does, and I also don't have any idea of what would be the best approach, because as a fan I want everything but I'm not sure which would be the best way to organize those sets, and I know that many people, including fans, are not interested in every single note the way I am. But if we want everything, given that even here on a Prince fans forum of all places, some fans already complain about the single edits "wasting CD space", "everything" can only be done NPGMC-style.
