Right - I think the general consensus is that he did frequent many clubs, however, his purpose was not to get "wasted" on alcohol or drugs. It was tied to his music, image, and the women.
*
The Glam Slam clubs were sales, marketing, and exposure for Prince. Also, he wanted his own place where he could perform whenever and however he wanted with his band. During the March 1986 Parade "tryout" at 1st Avenue he said to the crowd, "I just have a few more things I have to do, and then I'm going to come back and build a place where we can all hang out together, listen to music and dance." So, he had those clubs planned for a long time before they were built.
I NEVER implied that Prince was a drug addict or "getting drunk there, passing out, cutting up, having to be dragged out and escorted home". Like some other "person" here said . !
I guess U people meaning of "Party Animal" is on some kind of drugs. Well my meaning is someone who enjoys parties and party activities very much and goes to as many as possible.
The rest U wrote I already know ALL about & more. Its NOTHING I don't know. I know EVERYTHING!
ChocolateBox3121 - You are obviously a long-time huge and devoted Prince fan, and that is fantastic. However, as it has become clear that even his close associates, band members, and women with whom he shared a bed did not know everything about him, I'm going to say with very strong confidence that you did not know everything about him.
*
Also, I'm going to be a bit "nit-picky" here.....your "signature" phrase - "So Prince, whom fought 4 his first record deal & got it..." is in need of an edit. The word "whom" replaces "him" or "her" in a sentence, so it is not grammatically correct to say, "Prince, him fought 4 his first...". The correct sentence structure is "he fought 4 his first...". So, your sentence should be written as, "Prince, who fought 4 his first...." or just "Prince fought 4 his first..."
*
Sorry, it was just bugging me a bit.... |

I think it's more about PPS than the clubs, but maybe.
Went back and listened to his speech at the 1st Avenue 3/86 show. He first talks about how good it feels to get so much love from the audience. Then he says, "Listen, I just got a few more things I gotta do. And then, when I do them I'm gonna come back here, and I'm gonna build a big clubhouse where we can all hang out like this everyday. I"m gonna do it, or I'm gonna die trying. D'ya understand?"
*
It's possible that he was referring to PP, but since that was used more for recording, rehearsals and business functions I think he was talking about what would become the Glam Slam nightclubs. |

I honestly think his main incentive/interest in going to the clubs was tied more to music - listening to the current trends or trying out his own new recordings, checking out the fashion trends, people watching, keeping up his rock star status by being seen at the clubs, and of course, looking for/picking up women. I think the drinking/drugs were the least interesting aspect to him.
*
Oh....and he was nocturnal, so some of it was just boredom. One of his old managers stated in Matt Thorne's Biography that when they were touring in Europe Prince would call him after midnight to go with him to the clubs. He said it was just the worst, because Prince would just sit there at his VIP table and watch people. He said on one occasion their waitress was annoyed - I guess because they were not ordering drinks - and she asked why he bothered to come to the club if he was just going to sit there and not drink or mingle. The manager told her he likes to "people watch". She replied, "well why doesn't he just go to the park then?"
I think Prince got a buzz fairly quickly or easily on very little. So I think he Mastered the art of “coping a buzz”. And that was plenty to bring out his animal And start dancing and women chasing.
Yes, that's most likely true. He sings about it in Insatiable - "I had a little wine, never anything stronger, so baby, I'm a little gone. Yeah, that's what I'll blame this on..." |

Maybe in the 80's. But apparently U didn't hear about how he mingled around at his house parties with the guest, or at PP later in his life. Without Social Media superstars as big as Prince was back then were rarely seen in public settings besides award shows. They had to protect themselves at all cost. He couldn't just get up & mingle around like the average person ANYWHERE. Let alone a club.
Actually, I've heard and read all about his house parties in LA. But remember, these were parties where Prince was hand-picking guests to attend. There were never just random people showing up and given access. It was "Fort Knox" at those parties. He had security detail everywhere. These parties were organized by him to promote his records, proteges, and to keep him exposed to the music and LA scene. Most who attended were fellow musician friends, celebrities, and the occasional journalist if he wanted/needed media coverage of the event.
*
Also, in the 80's he was much more open and accessible. He would hang out at First Avenue and dance with his camp. The social reclusion and heavier bodyguard coverage at clubs began more in the 90's. Here is an exerpt from the 1985 RS interview with the journalist describing Prince's night out:
*
"As we pull up in front of First Avenue, a Saturday-night crowd is milling around outside, combing their hair, smoking cigarettes, holding hands. They stare with more interest than awe as Prince gets out of the car. “You want to go to the [VIP] booth?” asks the bouncer. “Naah,” says Prince. “I feel like dancing.”
A few feet off the packed dance floor stands the Family, taking a night off from rehearsing. Prince joins the band and laughs, kisses, soul shakes. Prince and three of Family members wade through a floor of Teddy-and-Eleanor-Mondale-brand funkettes and start moving. Many of the kids Prince passes either don’t see him or pretend they don’t care. Most of the rest turn their heads slightly to see the man go by, then simply continue their own motions."
[Edited 11/12/18 21:40pm] "That mountain top situation is not really what it's all cracked up 2 B when was doing the Purple Rain tour had a lot of people who knew 'll never c again @ the concerts.just screamin n places they thought they was suppose 2 scream." |

Prince was MAINLY like that in his hometown. He felt more comfortable to walk around ANYWHERE and be free. Because they weren't very starstruck by him there like in other places. Which is the reason he remained there & kept Minnesota as his main home & built PP there. Which is where he lived with NO SURVEILLANCE the last years of his life. The Yes, of course it was well known that Prince felt most comfortable in MN, as he discussed this many times in interviews. However, he was also much more accessible and open elsewhere at clubs in the 80's - not just in MN. |

Prince WAS NOT walking around FREELY in clubs in LA in THE EIGHTIES!!! Prince had bodyguards as early as the Dirty Mind tour with Chick Huntsberry and crew, so he was never technically "walking around freely". However, comparable to the 90's and 2000's he was much more accessible, and I think more social as well. He was on the Purple Rain high and enjoying his fame. Listen to the song "Movie Star" - all the detail of a night on the town for him. |

not sure when he started using body guards but I think chick didn't come in until maybe as late as 1999, he may have been there for controversy but not any earlier. Prince had several men working as security in those years, chick was the most infamous probably because of his look. He was also willing and ready to throw down at a moments notice. the story goes that he scared people, prince included, before they got to know him. Prince actually wanted him fired at first, dez says he got chick to open up and prince's managers got him not to bust heads(chick said that compared to the other rock tours "prince was like church") and the rest was history. |

He was obvioulsy at some wild parties. Rick James, Eddie Murphy, etc... you get the idea.

If the story about Ingrid Chevez and creating Lovesexy is true, then that partying was even up to '88, when he had his epiphany.

The Second Coming red eyes don't lie...
Off topic, but that footage and pictures apparanetly weren't from The Second Coming but from early Purple Rain screentests according to Allen Beaulieu.

He did have an apartment over there. Just because he never moved permanently doesn't mean he didn't want to. Actually he rented a complete new one in 2010, complete with a studio and it was right next to Karl's (Lagerfeld) home who was his friend and also got him the connections to play at the Grand Palais. Prince was serious about living here because people here aren't starstruck and because he saw new creative possibilities. For instance, he wanted to create a new music festival in the South and start an exchange of American and European music acts. "Time is space spent with U" |
