If Lenny was in Ps life as much as he says, he also saw the deteriorization up close and personal, not from the back row!! |

Lenny did say he tried calling Prince. You can watch the interview from 4/21/16- google 'Lenny Kravitz and Jonesy remember Prince'. It won't allow me to copy the link here. I'm going read paul's RS interview he posted. The video was aired the morning of P's death and you pretty much get exactly where LK is going with the narrative. IMO

Reality check, please!! But, really. The police concluded that Prince thought he was taking vicodin, but inadvertently ended up taking fentanyl. If Prince had continued to take vicodin he could have been one of many people who depend on painkillers to go about their daily lifes, but are still able to be happy and productive. This is what Kravitz said: "I saw him so much, in and out, that I can’t remember the last time we spoke. I heard about the plane landing the other week. And I knew what it was. I thought, “Okay, he dodged a bullet. Close call, but it’s a one-off and we move on.” And then a week later, I got the news. It knocked me really out. I still haven’t really recovered. Not to be dramatic or overly sensitive, but I really feel like a piece of me died."
Oh, good. Enlighten us, Lenny. Maybe then we can all get closure. Case solved.

The searing look Prince has in this GIF is obviously your mindframe on the subject. IIRC- you were around Prine during this particular time frame in Paris (90's)? no? I'm sure you met Lenny as well- can you give any insight here?

You're right, that is what LE concluded and many disagree with that conclusion because they cannot possibly know that for sure unless P. told them that. I wish he would have just stuck to taking "legally prescribed" vicodin, under a Dr 's orders, instead of taking anything he could get his hands on. I don't think Lenny was alluding to P. taking the occasional vicodin and just took one too many on an empty stomach. He was in OD territory, made an emergency landing and almost died!! Please tell me Lenny is not that ignorant!

Yes, some of this was regurgitated 6 days later on 4/27/16 in this RS interview. Great read...I've read it before. BUT, there's a couple of 'red flags'
1.'Cut to 2 days later. Hes kept me awake the whole time.' Lenny wonders if Prince is a vampire, as he's never met someone with that energy level before (they stayed up over 48 hrs- and LK was ready to crash when P said, no- it's Go time!)
2. Lenny clearly stated he 'knew what it was'

Very good points. I don't know what I think about Lenny. I imagine he and P had a complicated off-on-again relationship, but I don't think anyone knew that Prince had fentanyl in those bottles (other than whoever made them, possibly P, and possibly the person who purchased them for him, if it wasn't Prince himself) . Lenny probably thought he was popping some pain pills on an empty stomach in a similar fashion to 2009. Also, I imagine Lenny only got in contact with former associates like Ruth or Kiran, who knew P's history of pill usage but didn't know the specifics of the extreme nature of his pill usage at the end of his life. ALso, I agree that Lenny probably takes vicodin too. He is doing high impact touring into his 50's.

I know people who take vicodin for various reasons. If any of them had to make an emergency landing, my first thoughts would be heart attack, stroke, choking on a chicken bone...not OD that takes 2 shots of narcan (which we all knew early on) to revive them. Just me. [Edited 7/24/18 11:26am] |

This is a bit of devil's advocate here, but I am going to say it anyhow.
After reading the ROlling Stone article, it was most likely very off-and-on interaction. He even said Prince could be aloof and not call or come around for a year. He also said Prince was very loving as well. I am sure he had his moments when he got pissed at Prince (that keeping him up all night and then not telling him what key they would be playing in moment). I am sure he had his good moments. But any relationship with Prince was on Prince's terms due to his ability to pull out of interaction with folks. People took what they could get and had no choice but to hope for the best when they got word that P wasn't doing too great off in Minneapolis. I totally believe Lenny that they went back years because there are too many people who witnessed them together. He seemed a bit numb during that interview on the day after P's death, even though he said he had come to terms with it. Grief is weird like that though, especially when you are used to absenses from that person. It can take a while for it to emotionally register that you will never see that person again.

I imagine he didn't know about the two narcon shots. He probably only knew that vicodin was involved during the Moline incident. He may not have even known that Prince almost died. He might have thought p's people were being cautious becuase he was just unconscious on the plane. Keep in mind that some of P's former inner circle is now Lenny's current inner circle. He was probably only able to talk to them. THis interview was right after P died--there were no toxicity reports out or anything yet. All people knew was that Prince died of an overdose. THey didn't know how bad it was. Lenny might have asked around April 17th what might have happened. People in p's outer circle might have made it clear that P could overdo the vicodin sometimes. TO which, Lenny thought that maybe he had taken too many vicodin and was unconscious on the plane. Fast forward, a week and its reported that P has died in his house. Lenny thinks, "Shit, it must have been the vicodin'>

I suspect many of Ps relationships went as you stated above. But, not being on the payroll and seeing him "so much", he was certainly in a better position to help P. than you or I! Do you remember right after P. died, or maybe before, there was a story about a woman from overseas that was claiming P. had a drug problem (I think she said it was cocaine). I don't know if any of it was true, but I remember thinking it was just some attention seeker. Still don't know if it really happened, but I can imagine it was one of the only ways to try to get P. help - leak it to the world. Apparently, no one else could help him! |

Yes to this. However, to say "I knew what it was" can be interpreted in many ways and most likely not in his favour.

In 2011, yes. I heard about drugs in the 90s from 2 other sources (associates) and both times it was about cocaine. Unfortunately, it was after his passing.
