He shouldn't have been left alone. I'm guessing the pills he got from the doc weren't working - yes, he would notice this right away, it doesn't take much time for these pills to work. Perhaps KJ was afraid he would take too many so he didn't leave them? Not sure wht he didn't try the other pills Dr S prescribed. I think Prince was already way deeper into the addiction/withdrawl battle than anyone realized except himself perhaps. He knew what was working for him and it wasn't straight up Percocet. That's why all the other pills. He wanted to make sure he always had something on hand that would work when he needed it. Withdrawl is agonizing. This can't be expressed enough. Addicts will do anything to avoid it. It is debillitating. Prince did not want to find himself in that predicament. I need to do some more research before I speak in error, but i thought i read once that Prince preferred a painkiller that waz taksn off the market. He probably found an illicit source for those pills. He could have had that stash of tainted pills for a long time if he had been able to procure a large supply. But he also could have had a reliable source for that particular pill and unfortunately got a bad batch recently. But its all speculation. I have been going around and around in circles trying to figure out how or why he was getting pills off the street when he didn't have to. I get the privacy thing. But i also think they were better, or worked better, for him. I think he was humoring KJ somewhat by going to the legit doctor. I think he knew in his heart by that point that he had a serious problem, those close to him were starting to see it and coming down on him, it was becoming unmanagable. I think he knew he was going away that next day to get help and he wanted to feel good one last time so he took the "good pills". I don't believe he knew he was taking fentanyl, and maybe it was just in the last week. But i wonder if he had been taking them unknowingly for longer. It would explain the decline. It would explain the turn downward people saw in him. Fentanyl is so dangerous because the high is fast and the high is good. But its short. As soon as the user gets off they are looking for the next high. Someone must have been helping him get the tainted pills. I doubt any of the players involved knew they were tainted tho. It's a hurtful place, the world, in and of itself. We don't need to add to it. We all need one another. ~ PRN | |

( JI-I: Ah we get to Atlanta, go straight to the dressing room, I go and get some food and he sound checks and then um and then he does the show. CN: Okay and where, so that's what Prince does, that's what you do, what does Kirk do during that time, do you know? JI-I: Yeah Kirk ah, I don't know where Kirk went, we met with another bodyguard, so the bodyguard kind of handled me and helped me get food and then Kirk went and, I don't really know, he has a lot going on cause he has to deal with whatever .. CN: Okay. JI-I: .. that's logistically like as if a manager so .. CN: Sure. JI-I: .. so he went down and maybe spoke to some of the .. I don't know, he was just, I didn't see him. CN: Okay so about, do you know about what time you got to the venue then? JI-I: Ah well let's see, the first show was a 7:30 show I believe, 7:00 or 7:30 and we were running late, we were pretty much getting there around that time ... ( CN: Okay. JI-I: .. so he had a really quick sound check and we had to get police escorted to the venue anyways because we were running behind. Unk: Where was the event? CN: Okay. JI-I: Where? Um it's the beautiful theater, the um ah what's it called, it's like a chain theater, they've got.it's like old theater, I don't know, I forget the name. Unk: Something like the Pantages or.. JI-I: It's not the Pantages but it's like ah one of those um ... CN: I forget now too, I read it of course but .. JI-I: It's like an old beautiful theater. Unk: Okay. CN: Okay and take kind of..take us through um the you know, the night and you know let's say up until you guys go back to the airport. Anything eventful? JH: Ah well, he I mean, he .. he wasn't really feeling good until he did his first show, he did his first show and he did an amazing, incredible show and then came back to his dressing room and you know, I went into the dressing room and I said hey amazirig, he's like thank you you know, I mean he said a lot of stuff that was kind of hard to hear. CN: Okay. JH: II was stuff like you know ... CN: And I, and I would like to hear specifically and 1..1 ii might be hard for you to .. JH: .. yeah, I mean he, yeah he .. he just, he just was in a really .. l've never seen him, he was just kind of, oh man I enjoy sleeping more these days you know, maybe ii means I've done all I'm supposed to do here on this earth, stuff like that and I was kind of like, so I was like okay, you know and I was like well what.. what about the you know, like so you don't enjoy being here um you know, when you're awake? He's like no, it's boring, incredibly boring you know, so he was very kind of in a .. kind of depressed .. CN: ( Okay. JH: .. mindset and that was after the first show um second show he did the .. another amazing show, you'd never guess these things on .. on the stage and then he comes back and lh,at's when you know, he was a little more in a better mood.. ' CN: Okay. .. and he was um and then Janelle Monae and Ceelo Green kind of..and we all kind of JH: came in and had like a little, they were only there for like ten, fifteen minutes just talking how great ii was and um things like that. CN: Okay. JI-I: Oh there's another thing, there was, before the first show, or before ... after the first show when he was more depressed talking about all those things there was a guy from Electric Fetus which is a small independent um record shop and he had one of the um younger guys ah that owns it come out and .. and sit there and talk about business things like we want to do this and that with the store, so that was it. CN: Okay when you ah, let me take you back just a little bit here, when you said Prince wasn't feeling well um did he tell you what wasn't feeling well or what was, or was ii just that he wasn't feeling well. JH: Ah we get on the plane, kind of get settled, ah Kirk always sits in the front, he sits like if the plane is that way and the pilots are this way, there's a seat and he just faces the pilot and then .. JH: .. then there's the table and there's two seats this way and then Prince and I, Prince sits across directly from me and so it was that kind of thing and we talked a little bit but um he told the stewardess we're going to have something to eat and so she starts to prepare food, that was the first time he was going to eat anything because he hadn't eaten and he um, he goes to the back of the plane um I'm still sitting this way and he goes to the back, there's like another couch type of thing .. CN: Yep. JH: .. and um he, he's like fiddling with his bag okay .. CN: Okay. .. um and then I didn't really think much of it but he .. oh no, he sat here first and talked to JH: me a little bit and he asked me um if I needed a cough drop cause I was coughing and so I was like no I'm okay, or no he's like are you okay with your cough or whatever and I was like yeah I'm fine and then he goes and he stands up, he goes and he goes to the back of the plane and fiddles with his bag, and he's fiddling for a while and then he comes back and he hands me a cough drop and I was like okay, thank you and then he goes back to his bag and he's fiddling with the bag for a while again and um finally he. comes back to his table and um he's talking about you know, wants me to stay with him in Paisley Park for another day so we can like watch movies you know, just hang out for a while. CN: Yeah, okay. JH: Ah and then he says um but we'll see, I might need to sleep you know, get some rest and I was like yeah sure, you know whatever you need to do and that's when it happened. And I was like is his heart beating and then he felt his chest and he's like yeah and I was like okay and then he kept shaking him Prince, Prince, nothing and then I ask again, is his heart beating and he felt it and he was like yeah but it's irregular so it's getting like, time was not on our side and um it was taking forever to descend but finally we descended. · CN: Okay. At the end of the day I think he truly tried to help the brotha get off the junk. I agree with you. Kirk has his own family, so while he was with Prince a lot, it’s not like he stayed at PP 24/7. KJ didn’t even know the code to the vault because Bremer Trust had to have the vault drilled open. The TV interview that Kirk did last year was weird and rubbed me the wrong way. However, it says a lot that Kirk was able to get Prince to see Dr. Schulenberg a couple of times in his last week of life. Prince obviously trusted KJ more than just about anyone. I wonder if Kirk wanted to do more (such as have Prince stay in the hospital), but Prince being Prince wasn’t going to agree to that, so Kirk did what he could, which was to get Prince to agree to see Dr. Schulenberg for treatment. Clearly and unfortunately, the outreach to Dr. Kornfeld occurred just a bit too late. My guess is that Kirk probably feels guilty that he didn’t do more for Prince. . I feel that it would have been hard to get Prince to stay in a hospital for any meaningful period of time for treatment. I don’t know what the laws are in MN regarding forcing someone to take medical treatment, but my understanding is that in most states, it’s easier for family members (spouse, parent, child, brother/sister) to force someone into treatment or medical care. Prince had siblings, but none of the other family members. He was probably concerned about his privacy in a hospital plus he wasn’t a big fan of doctors. I also wonder if he may have had an aversion to being in hospitals because being in a hospital could trigger flashbacks about Amiir’s short life, since Amiir never left the hospital. Addicts will do anything to avoid it. It is debillitating. Prince did not want to find himself in that predicament. I need to do some more research before I speak in error, but i thought i read once that Prince preferred a painkiller that waz taksn off the market. He probably found an illicit source for those pills. He could have had that stash of tainted pills for a long time if he had been able to procure a large supply. But he also could have had a reliable source for that particular pill and unfortunately got a bad batch recently. But its all speculation. I have been going around and around in circles trying to figure out how or why he was getting pills off the street when he didn't have to. I get the privacy thing. But i also think they were better, or worked better, for him. I think he was humoring KJ somewhat by going to the legit doctor. I think he knew in his heart by that point that he had a serious problem, those close to him were starting to see it and coming down on him, it was becoming unmanagable. I think he knew he was going away that next day to get help and he wanted to feel good one last time so he took the "good pills". I don't believe he knew he was taking fentanyl, and maybe it was just in the last week. But i wonder if he had been taking them unknowingly for longer. It would explain the decline. It would explain the turn downward people saw in him. Fentanyl is so dangerous because the high is fast and the high is good. But its short. As soon as the user gets off they are looking for the next high. Someone must have been helping him get the tainted pills. I doubt any of the players involved knew they were tainted tho. There isn't any evidence he took pills to get high. The wooh is on the one! | |
