Such a waste and it was so avoidable. What a shame. And the players in the game. Pisses me off.

Girl, I was seeing red mad

wondering if "the enabler" KJ will be the one facing the music today?

I'll be surprised. Seriously, I'm hoping something happens.

This is why the family never announced an illness, and let everyone believe that story about the OD, because that's what happened. No illness just accidental OD.

I’m confused. Is anyone disputing the accidental OD (outside of the murder conspiracy nuts)? There’s a reason he was taking this stuff in the first place. confused

You're telling me. eek That's why they are so dangerous.

something still isn't making sense. Come on. 15 pills? and a few Tylenol 3's that were supposedly left over from a dental procedudure KJ had?? That's child's play...Prince was getting it from somewhere else besides a medical Dr, unless KJ was (for him)and we are not being enlightened on what scripts were in KJ's name in the past year...maybe KJ had gotten cut off from the medical Dr's and went elsewhere.

Yep that "vault" in KJ's head may be unlocked sooner than later...when he needs the book sale's $. He needs to be dragged out of PP TODAY!

Yes, it looks like he was getting it from somewhere else. He had to be, because those prescription pills didn't contain fentanyl. He was buying off the streets, and just ran into a bad batch.

Nope. Not pointing that way at all. IMO. Others say murder, suicide, cancer....After 2 years there has been no official announcement of any illness.

It's just such a waste of a musical genius.

Yes, I agree. All the facts we know point to accidental OD with no big conspiracy underlying it (no murder plot, no planned death due to terminal illness, etc.)

Ok well If we exclude both those camps it comes down to:

1. Chronic physical pain/illness
2. Emotional pain
3. Recreational

I’m going to be a complete hypocrite and speculate for one minute: the answer is 1 and in Prince’s mind disclosing illness or pain would be admitting weakness (plus knowing how private he was he would never have done it anyway) and disclosing use of or a dependency on medication he was taking for that illness or chronic pain would certainly be a weakness (in his mind). Thus all of it was hidden and kept as private as possible (outside of Kirk).

You mean what initially caused him to start taking the opioids that he became addicted to? Who knows -- it could've been something he used on and off over the years and only at the end escalated out of control. We've spent nearly 2 years speculating here (and we've had so many, many posts discussing how these various kinds of physical and emotional pain are often very intertwined and how the idea of "recreation" can often be a mask mask for underlying emotional/mental health issues).

-

But why he began taking opioids? I assume it was similar to most people: to alleviate something(s) that caused him pain or distress. The shame is that the drugs themselves became the problem, not a solution.

A Minneapolis doctor believed to have prescribed Prince oxycodone a week before the music legend’s death in the name of his drummer has agreed to pay $30,000 in federal fines, prosecutors said Thursday.

Dr. Michael Schulenberg struck the deal earlier this week with the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Minnesota, retaining his medical license in exchange for the penalty and stricter compliance rules over the next two years.

Neither Prince nor drummer Kirk Johnson are named in the four-page settlement dated Monday, but federal prosecutors said the geriatrician broke federal drug rules on April 14, 2016, by prescribing painkillers “in the name of an individual, knowing that the controlled substances were intended to be used by another individual.”

FROM THE PRESS CONFERENCE:

Prince took counterfeit Vicodin that, unknown to him, had Fentanyl in it. This was accidental. Prince did not have a prescription for Vicodin or Fentanyl. He did, however, have a prescription for Percoset. He was prescribed 15 pills; 10 were found. But Percoset does NOT contain the chemical that killed him.

Police can find no evidence whatsoever relating to where the counterfeit Vicodin came from. They do not believe there was anything sinister regarding Prince's death. It was an accidental overdose from a counterfeit drug that contained an ingredient not known to Prince or anyone around him.

No criminal charges will be filed against anyone.

Right and I usually try to stay out of these threads (sigh) so I didn’t participate in most of those conversations. For me, I just try to boil things down and get rid of the noise and confusion. For me the reason for use and cause of death are separate things. Someone can believe he had chronic pain or some illness AND that the cause of death was an overdose. In my mind speculation of illness or chronic pain is not denial of dependence/OD.

We have no way of knowing for sure that he had chronic pain. He evidently didn't see Drs. very often.

Not too many surprises. So very sad. Very hard to listen to a detailed, accurate account of the last week of his life. There will be no charges. They do not know where he got the counterfeit pills. Dr S initiated the push for treatment. He is the one who contacted his mgmt about his concerns. Thats what spurred them to contact Dr K recovery place. He was meeting Kirk to give him Prince's medical records for his impending recovery stint with Andrew. I'm heartbroken all over again that help was just literally moments away. Instead he died alone. And the world became a bit dimmer.
They cited his desire for privacy several times as a contributing factor. Also mentioned that the public's constant finger pointing at insiders is futile. They did nothing criminal. They were misguided sure, but who are we to judge unless we were in their shoes. Dr S violated standard practices, but there was nothing sinister about what he did which is why they declined to charge him. He got his due punishment. And the rest of his closest people will have to live with their role in his death. That is a moral dilemma, not a criminal one.

What gets me is the earlier OD. Why did they not clean house to make sure whatever it was he took was gone? Someone KNEW there were counterfeit pills. Sad.

I’m not surprised there are no charges. If they couldn’t source where the counterfeit pills came from who is there to charge? Throwing the book at Kirk to make us all feel better isn’t the answer.

Thanks for the link to live stream.
Tough to listen to.
Question:
So Dr S. Gets fined for writing script...Is KJ not also somehow in the wrong for allowing it to be written in his name (I'm not railroading KJ per se. I'd ask the same question regarding whomever script was written out to)?
